"A baby?!" My eyes nearly pop out of their socket.
"Yes, a baby?" He answers, looking certain of what he's saying.
"I'm not having a baby for Keenan, I don't even like him?!" I exclaim loudly, hoping it registers in his memory.
I've never been one to resent or contradict the words that come out of Mycole's mouth, they have always been true and they always certain, but I refuse to believe or put my faith in this vision of his'. Keenan is a wonderful guy, but the longest I see us going is close friends. I do not hope to have a baby with Keenan 'cause I don't think I'll quickly get on within a year from Rory.
He sighs but begins to speak calmly. "Now it seems impossible, but you'll get to love Keenan too and he'll be able to make you very happy if you let him. Isn't that what you've always wanted?" I don't understand how he can be calm about this future he's seeing when he knows I love Rory.
"It will never happen, I love Rory, and you can't see Rory future so you don't know what the future has for the both of us."
He goes me a ridiculously lost look. "Rory is going to hurt you to the point of death, why would you want to have anything to do with someone like that?"
"Because I love him and he loves me too and I'm gonna tell him that." I harshly blurt out and he flinches like I just burned him. "There's nothing that's gonna stop me."
"Then there's no need to say anything anymore." He turns and begins to leave.
"Mycole. Wait."
He turns and watching the ticking of the muscles that are under his eyebrow, I know he's angry. "Why? I knew you were going to be rebellious, that's who you always are, you never like to be corrected, you did that in the times of Toby and you're gonna do the same with Rory and this time, I won't be there to save and help you like the last."
"Don't worry," I assure him frankly, "this won't be like it."
"I've seen it, it's gonna be worse. Do you think it makes me happy? I still love you, but I know you're not mine so I don't try to hold on to you. Did you think it was easy for me to watch Toby do as it pleased with you?"
I stay quiet, unable to answer him. It never crossed my mind what he had to go through all those months I spent with Toby and now I know was horrible as mine. I've never fallen out with Mycole before and, he has never been mad or gotten angry with me before and today, I crossed that limit I can also feel the worse coming.
He clenches his jaw and releases it and he does it over and over, his blue eyes losing their shade of blue every moment that passes by. "You know what? I'm done with this, it's your future and you're bound to fulfil it one way or another. If my words are not of use to you, I'd better stop talking, and if you still choose to do what you like, then you can consider our friendship over." And with that, he storms out of my room, not bothering to close my door.
What just happened?
I blink my eyes a few moments, trying to snap back into reality, but I don't seem to like the turn of reality anymore. I just lost my best friend since forever all because of my stubbornness. It's not Mycole's fault that he sees things about me, I understand, and neither is it his fault for wanting me to know because that's what you do when you love and care for the well being of someone.
Keenan gives me weary eyes as I walk to him, "I thought you were never coming out." We take the next steps towards me, and it brings him very close to me.
"What's wrong, hun." He asks, his fingers brushing lightly over my cheeks. "What did he tell you?"
That I'm gonna have a baby with you?
"Nothing," I murmured sadly.
"Is it Rory then?" He asks, raising his brow.
Again I shake my head. His hands withdraw from my face and he takes a step back. "It's about me isn't it?" He requests, "that's what he came to tell you that our future was entwined and that I was going to hurt you. He's right, I'm not a good person, never have been and most times I wonder why Rory keeps me around."
"What do you mean?" I ask,
"I mean Rory is the good one amongst the two of us." He confesses. "That why I don't want you giving up on what you two have."
"Why do you say that?"
"Because he's been in love before, he gave everything just to see it work with Ginger, even up to nearly losing his own life, but it didnt work out the way he thought it would and he was hurt badly and so now he doesn't want to pursue love or put it first before his work or family."
"Were you the reason that relationship didn't work out?" Is the first thing I ask.
His eyes go dull and his head bows down a little, I can feel he's remorseful and sad for what he's done. "I'm not a good person, and I don't know why Rory kept me this long, I've done worse than an enemy can, but he still considers me his best friend."
"You're the first girl I've met that he didn't introduce me to, and you're the first girl I'm not going to entangle myself with." He takes my hand. "It's okay if you dislike me after this confession, 'cause I dislike myself ninety-five per cent of the time, but promise me, whatever happens, you'll try to work things out with Rory, he might not say it out loud, but the last thing he wants is to make you his other woman." He brings my hands to his lips and kisses them passionately, before letting them go. "I'll bring Jake along for the shopping for the dinner tonight okay?"
I nod, and he walks out of the house.
I run inside and take my phone, from my purse, and dial Rory's number. I wait for it to be picked up, but after three trials, I figured he's probably busy. I drop the phone and go into my bathroom and luckily for me, the water there is running today.
I am out in the next twenty minute drying my hair quickly and combing it when my phone begins to ring. I run and pick it up. Paris.
"Need you to be here, I'm waiting for you in the office."
I glance at the clock on my nightstand and it's barely afternoon.
Geez whatever happened to later in the day?
"Okay, Paris, I'm on my way," I reply sluggishly.
"Thanks, girlfriend, I owe you a lot."
I roll my eyes, "That's my job." I remind her before ending the call.
Twenty minutes later.
The taxi drops me in front of the ACH and I pay him when I get down. I spot Paris pink Honda car parked outside, I guess she's been waiting for me indeed. Patience has never been Paris strongest point so as I approach her car, I expect the worse from her.
She notices me close to her car and gets down, but her words are not like one that angry.
"Thank God you're here." She takes my hand and pulls me quickly into the car. "I thought you were going to bail on me, I'm glad you didn't. We have a lot of things that need to be in place and if we decide to go in the afternoon, we won't be able to do everything we need to do." She gives me a sincere look. "I'm sorry if this came as an obstruction to what you were doing."
I smile at her genuinely, "Don't worry, I was not doing much." That doesn't mean you get to disturb my little life with yours. "I can deal."
Her smile widens, "Thanks again, come on John, take us to the Dreamhouse."
"Okay, ma'am." The driver replies before starting the car and driving off.
