Knock
I was sprawled on the bed when my door was knocked again. I sighed and ruffled my hair in distress. After making my mission of attending school early fail, they won't even give me the chance to think about what to do with my life. Ugh!
I swung my legs, which I casually placed on the headboard, and replied with a lazy 'Come in'.
“I'm here to check up on you.” Asher, who held onto his stethoscope and a medical box, leisurely strode into the room as soon as I responded. His eyes swept my room before they fell on me.
“Sure, if you won't quibble.” I retorted and sat up on the bed lazily, not quite believing him.
Ugh! I feel like I'm having a weird attitude these days, but I'd like to blame it on my arrogance, which has been suppressed all along until it can't be contained.
“Wyatt is extravagant this time,” Asher commented with a tut and walked to my bed before he stopped. He eyed me tentatively. “You're getting more glib day by day.” He blurted and sat down on a couch in my bedroom.
I shrugged and folded my legs before meeting his gaze bravely. “That's the type of person I am. I guess I'm tired of hiding.” I retorted, and he chuckled.
Asher arched his brows with a knowing smirk. “Many times, you don't act ordinary.” He conveyed.
I held my head high and stared at him bravely, trying to act as if His words did not move me.
“How does an ordinary person act?” I raised my chin and stared into his eyes while trying to re-evaluate Asher.
I've always thought Asher was nothing besides a playboy, doctor, or warrior type of person, but it seems I didn't understand him until now.
Asher is the type of person who usually smiles and acts indifferent to whatever happens, but it appears to me that it's a feigned act to weaken the enemy until they release everything to the so-called 'harmless' Asher. Asher is the type of person typically called a smiling tiger.
Our gazes were left in a deadlock, and we both continued to gaze at each other for a few minutes until Asher suddenly let out an amused chuckle and broke the deadlock we were both in.
He tapped on his medical box and said in a low voice without looking at me anymore. “Most people fear us. Fear our status and our blood, but you don't.” He conveyed, and I smacked my lips together, knowing he was right.
I guess the reason is I'm also a princess, but what I don't understand is why my type of royalty doesn't fear other powerful royalties.
Perhaps it's all because my parents always embed the statement, 'Fear no one.'
“I did the first day we met.” I retorted blandly while staring at his stethoscope, wondering when he'd stop quibbling and diagnose me.
“Yes.” He chirped in, his voice suggesting that he needed me to continue talking.
“And it's because I feel close to you…”
“How close?” Asher stood up and asked, and before I could process it, he grabbed my chin to stare into my eyes.
I smacked his hand away from my face and snorted at him. “Stop it. I'm not interested in a playboy.” I replied and tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear.
Asher plopped on my bed and grabbed his chest playfully, feigning hurt. “Ouch, that hurts.”
I snorted at the playboy who was hurt by casual remarks when, in fact, he was doing worse than that. “You break women's hearts without care, and I presume you planned to do the same with mine if I gave you a chance,” I stated confidently
At first, Asher stared at me with disbelief, then he began to chuckle at my words before he began to laugh loudly as if he couldn't believe that I said that. I gave him an unperturbed gaze, which made his smile wither a bit.
“How did you grow so detached in less than 30 minutes?” He arched his brows and raised his stethoscope to tell me that he wanted to diagnose me. I sighed with relief and laid on my back.
“Thank your friend. I would rather not quibble.” I finalized and shut my eyes.
I could feel the stethoscope on my chest and his scribbling on a notepad.
Soon, he tapped on my hands to ask me to unbutton my chest. He crossed his arms and feigned a lewd gawk.
I eyed him with amusement in return and said, “I'm not afraid you'll do something bad to me. I've got two protective men outside.” I replied and took off my shirt, leaving me in my bra.
“You're no fun.” He commented, his feigned expression turning serious, and I snorted at him in return.
I bit my lower lips with nervousness as he checked the scars. I hope I can get rid of these ugly scars that pervade my skin.
Asher's warm finger lightly traced the straight knife stab on my skin.
The stab had been inflicted by Alpha Henry himself on my fifteenth birthday.
When Jessica mentioned that Alpha Henry needed me in the office, I held out a faint hope that he remembered my birthday. Alas, immediately after I set my feet in the office, I was grabbed and tied down by two bulky guards.
Then Alpha Henry stood up, holding a paper bag. He told me that he got the strongest wolfsbane, and he'd like to see how effective it is on me.
Despite all my struggles, he cruelly stabbed me before he applied the wolfsbane to me.
I had thought that I'd die. I could still remember my heartbreaking cries then and my burning hatred for them. Immediately after I was released, I was asked to cook lunch for the whole pack.
Those ugly memories brought tears to my eyes and goosebumps to my skin.
'It's okay, Filippa. We're strong. We've fought through those ugly times successfully. What's left is for us to make them face multiple folds for all the cruelty they've done to us.' Maia comforted me.
'Thank you, Maia…'
'I thought you were Maia.' She snorted at me, which made me giggle.
'Don't be holding grudges, my pretty silver wolf, Maia.' I tried to flatter her, but she blocked me in return, which made me chortle. I knew she wasn't angry at me, so I was not worried a bit.
“Looks pretty bad,” Asher commented while tracing the scars. I presume that he's waiting for me to say something, but I have no intention of telling others my story yet. Not especially when there's that profound mystery about Filippa and the lie about my identity.
I only hope Filippa isn't an enemy, or that's just one of the best ways to die. I don't think Filippa is an enemy, though.
I opened my eyes and directed my gaze to him. “Should've seen worse,” I responded curtly instead, and he fell silent for a few seconds as if taken aback by my short reply.
Asher shook his head and said, “I'm an exclusive doctor. My work is limited…”
I guess he must mean that he's the Alpha and Beta's doctor instead of the whole pack. I never expected that. I sat up and eyed him, asking, “You're more of a warrior?”
He shrugged and replied, “One of the teachers.”
My eyes lit up in excitement. “Can you teach me how to fight?”
“Why do you want to learn?” He suddenly asked, which made me fall silent.
Of course, it's to make my enemies pay, but I don't have the intention of telling anyone that. “To protect myself.” I white-lied.
Asher eyed me with a knowing smirk. “Or to take revenge from those who snatched things from you?”
