"They are on their way here, you need to get some sleep now," Doctor Ken said, gently squeezed Clinton's shoulders and left the room.
The room became pin drop quiet. Clinton lay back on the bed very calm yet plenty of questions and thoughts ran through his head.
Elizabeth, confused on what to do, went after the doctor hoping he could say something, especially concerning his meal. She has not the least of ideas on what to make for him.
"Is there anything... I mean food that I should prepare for him?" She asked Doctor Ken who was by the window curtains gazing through the window quietly.
"Make him a light meal, he should take it before he sleeps off again, he needs his strength."
Elizabeth then left to prepare something for Clinton. All through the time she was preparing the food, she kept on wondering how she would feed Clinton with her hands! By herself!
If anyone had told him a day would come when Elizabeth, the person he hated most, would put food in his mouth, he wouldn't have believed it. How about herself, can she even believe that she would be catering to someone who has hated her for a long time for reasons she knew nothing about.
She would try her best to care for him the best she could until at least his parents get back or hire new housekeepers for she has been taught to not pay evil back with evil but to pay back evil with good.
Normally, she would have felt no pity for him considering how he has treated her in the past but she just couldn't. It is not in her nature to rejoice when tribulations hit even her enemies. She just can't find herself being happy over his predicament.
She finished preparing the food and carried it into Clinton's room. She placed the food close to his bed and turned her back to go get a seat for herself.
"Skrrrrrr!"
She heard plates fall carelessly on the floor. Turned to see Clinton even in his partial blind state using his legs to throw the food away. Same old violent Clinton!
"Arrrraaaaahg!" He screamed, shaking himself vigorously on the bed and clutching hard on the sheets.
Elizabeth could hear the pain and sadness in his voice. She pitied him but he really needs to get a hold of himself as what has happened has already happened and can't be changed. He can't continue to be aggressive and destroy things. That won't help him in any way.
Now that he has poured the food away, does he expect her to go and make another food? Gosh!
Doctor Ken rushed into the room. He must have heard Clinton scream.
"What is going on?" He asked and rushed towards Clinton.
"Doctor Ken you have to do something about this. I feel my sight seeping away. I see darkness everywhere. What is happening to my eyes! Arrrrrrrrgh!"
"Calm down, you will be alright…"
"Seriously? I should calm down? I can't see anything and you are saying I should calm down!" He was shaking his head sideways, unable to believe his situation.
Doctor looked from the food on the floor to Elizabeth and to the food again. He was using his eyes to plead with Elizabeth to make another food.
Angry as Elizabeth was, she managed to tuck it behind and packed up the wasted food to go make fresh one. If only Clinton was a kid, nothing would have prevented him from receiving a spank from her for what he just did.
By the time she was done making the food the second time, Clinton had become calm. She can't say exactly how he was feeling inside but outside, he was calm.
Just like she did the first time, she placed the food on a side table close to Clinton's bed and went to get a chair for herself.
She brought her own chair closer, scooped a spoon of rice and suddenly felt cold on the next thing to do. She felt so awkward having to put food into Clinton's mouth.
"Sir, errm open your mouth," she said.
At first he hesitated,.Elizabeth brought the spoon closer to his mouth using the tip of the spoon to touch his lips. He opened it small at first and then big. Elizabeth slipped the food into his mouth quickly and allowed him to chew on it.
He was slow at first but later increased his tempo as time went on.
Elizabeth watched him masticate the food with an indifferent look. She can't even tell if he is enjoying the food or not with the type of facial expression he was making.
His eyes were fixed straight across the room. He barely even rotated his head. Just focused straight and only opened his mouth once he felt something touch his lips asking for entrance.
Elizabeth liked the way he understood her pattern. She didn't have to keep calling him to remind him to open his mouth before he would open it.
After he ate a few spoons, he started to act like he was full. Elizabeth understood and took the remaining food away.
"Thank you," Clinton said as Elizabeth was leaving the room.
Elizabeth froze and stopped in her tracks confused on what exactly she heard. Did she hear right or her ears were playing tricks on her. No, it can't be possible. Clinton Smith says thank you to her? Since when? Even when he is in a helpless condition, he would rather die than say those words to her.
She stood for a while and waited to hear if he would say anything else but he didn't. She was about to continue her walk out of the room when she heard it again. Clearer now and louder.
She was very sure she heard it and even more sure it came from Clinton. Confused on what to respond, she stood a little while looking at him, grateful that moment that he is blind and couldn't catch her staring at him.
She smiled without knowing it, turned and walked out of the room wondering if this situation is what Clinton needed to become a better person.
