Jack closed his eyes. Feeling the cool gentle breeze on his face. When he opened his eyes he was back on his knees at the holy site.
’This is it. The moment I’ve waited ten years for.’
He placed his right hand on a crystal in front of him. It was cool to the touch, pulsing sporadically like a flickering light.
’Calm. Just breathe naturally and focus.’
And then. Nothing happened.
’No, this can’t be right.’
No sounds, no colors, no reaction.
Whispers erupted through the hall.
"A Kaiser with no affinity."
’No this is wrong.’ Jack clutched the pendant with his left hand.
Then suddenly, the orb began to change colors. It started to turn black, but then faded. Then it turned blue, but that faded as well.
"Mother, what’s going on?" Annabelle asked from the back.
"I do not know. It’s probably broken. It just can’t read Jack."
Jack’s head started to bead with sweat.
Suddenly the orb changed to a light purple as sparks began to fly inside the crystal.
"Lightning affinity!" The priest’s voice boomed through the hall. "Rarest affinity a person can have!"
Lightning affinity only showed in 1 in 5,000 people. It was the rarest affinity one could have.
Instead of applause, the room was silent.
Whispers continued again.
"A Kaiser without dark affinity?"
"An heir with only one affinity?"
"Alaric must be outraged."
Alaric and his family were silent patiently waiting for the results.
"Jack, place your hands on this cube next. We will see your Talent." The priest declared.
Jack took his hand off the crystal and touched the cube.
Immediately the cube began to float. Jack took his hand off the cube. The cube began to light up and projected a letter. It was Grade S.
"Grade S martial Talent!" The priest declared with reverence.
The cube began to light up purple this time. Another S appeared but, it was flickering with electricity.
The room crackled with static electricity causing everyone’s hair to stand on end.
"Grade S Magic Talent!" The priest said excitedly. "Lord Kaiser, rejoice. Your boy has two S-rank talents. It’s been a long time since we’ve had someone with two high rank Talents!"
Alaric Kaiser stood up and began a slow clap. He had a gentle smile on his face. Happy with the outcome.
Slowly everyone clapped and joined in on the celebration. "Well done my boy, let’s go."
Jack stood up and bowed to the priest. "Thank you, sir. I appreciate the kindness." When Jack raised his head the priest saw his pendant.
He felt immense energy coming from the pendant. Lord Cassius and Lord Alaric felt it as well.
"Where did the pendant come from??" Cassius shouted.
Everyone stopped clapping and stared at Jack.
Mouths dropped, another person dropped their glass of wine, and Alaric came forward to his son.
He grabbed his head and put it down. Suddenly they were gone.
Jack felt his whole body move at super speed.
[That would be your father.]
[Yes. He seems quite worried pacing back and forth. I would talk to him, rather than consult me.]
’Father, what happened?’ Jack asked curiously.
Alaric who had been pacing back and forth finally spoke up.
"Jack, do you realize what this means?"
’No, I don’t, what’s the big deal? Doesn’t everyone get a blessing?’
"No Jack they don’t. Only a few chosen ones ever recieve a blessing. Each kingdom only has five or six people with blessings.
The whole hierarchy of power in Elysium will change. Kingdoms will target you because you are young, other families will want to marry their daughters to you, and the king, he’ll want to see you once word gets out."
’Ten years of peace, and now this? At least life won’t be boring.’
"Jack, this is serious!"
’I know it is Father. But, what’s done is done. We can only move forward from here.’
"We have maybe a month or two before the king finds out. Probably a year or two before other kingdoms hear about it."
’Then father, there is only one thing that needs to be done. I must get stronger than anyone else.’
"Yes, we can talk more tomorrow. We need to go."
’Yeah, that’s great and all but how do you expect me to get off a twenty-story holy site?’
"Just stand still. Let’s go get your sisters and mother."
Cassius Sunblade walked with measured steps until he reached Lady Genevieve.
"My lady, I believe we need to have a visit later this month," Cassius said politely.
"Yes, I believe we have much to discuss. Give it a few weeks and bring Aurora. He just woke up today."
Back at the Kaiser Mansion, Jack had returned to his room to look through his system.
