His Winter Heart Chapter 35

"Who are you texting to?" he asked, his usual expressionless face now replaced by an irritated look. Is it just me or I saw something in his eyes? Maybe I should text Luke more often... "Nothing, it's my personal life." I said, "And why do you care?" He was just silent. "Fine, text whoever you want for all I care." "Can. You. Just. Give. Me. My. Phone?" I said slowly, my anger starting to get the better of me. "Catch!" He flips the phone towards me, sending me scrambling to get it. His voice was harsher than before. "I don't care who you text, stupid,” and with that, he left the shop. Just then, Leroy and Dax finally returned from the restroom and grabbed their things from their table when they saw Eion wasn’t there anymore. They looked at me, “Where’s Eion?” I shrugged, “He just left.” “Oh damn that guy! He said he would be waiting for us!” Leroy exclaimed. I just gave them a small smile but Dax studied my expression and asked, “Are you okay, Snow?” “Oh let me guess, you and Eion fought again?” He asked. I just shook my head and pretended it was nothing, but he guessed it right. Dax chuckled, “guess I was right then...I'm really sorry for his attitude," Dax apologized. Now, why couldn't Eion have said that? It would be a lot better and more fun. Seriously, why does Eion have such nice friends when he doesn't even know how to say 'sorry' or 'please'? "He's like that but you know, he's nice," Leroy added. "Though he's not usually like that..." Dax trailed off. At this, I looked at them in pure disbelief as they tried to continue to comfort me using words. Not usually? "I know, thank you," Was all I could say. At least they tried to make up for the mess, unlike someone. "It's nothing," Leroy beamed at me. "No problem..." Dax said, “If you have problems with our friend, you can talk to us, maybe we can solve it.” I just nodded at that and they finally waved their goodbyes and left. Forget about Eion's Strange behavior, I need to reply to Luke. **** A background song played on the speakers, making me move my head to the rhythm of the slow beat. I can't decipher the name of the song since the lyrics weren't heard clearly by the yells of the wedding organizers, the staff, and the shrieks of laughter of the children running around. I made sure to keep an eye on Nathan every now and then. The wedding was still one week away and everyone was busy. A few people were skirting a huge fabric and decorating the corners, others were placing flowers in the possible places to put. I scanned the church and saw Aunt Maggie standing on the far end of the church, talking with her husband and a woman with round spectacles who looked like in her thirties, holding a clipboard protectively in his arm while she smiled brightly at the soon to be married couple. "We are starting now Miss, please line up here." A man with sleek blonde hair said to me, urging me to line up in the back part of the church in front of the door. I nodded at him and he offered me a smile before walking away and went to gather the children running around. Practice starts and the first to walk through the aisle are the ring bearers, Nathan, and the other kids including Caleb. Next are the honor attendants; Dax and Stacey (Hannah's cousin), Leroy and Hannah, Eion and me, Luke and Beth. Some of Aunt Maggie's relatives were sitting in the pews, I don't remember their names. We were walking through the aisle, my arms on Eion's. After that day, I thought he wouldn’t even go to the rehearsal, good thing he had a change of heart. I tried to ignore the electricity that seemed to spark whenever our arms brushed. I gulped, keeping a straight face, but I glanced at Eion from one corner of my eye. He was wearing a grey shirt and black pants. Did he feel it? He glanced at me, raised his eyebrows before he whispered in annoyance, "What?" I kept my hands in place instead of whacking him on the head, especially since we're at the church. "Nothing," I replied curtly. I guess I was just hallucinating... "Who was it?" He spoke up. My eyebrows furrowed. "Who's who?" "The one who’s texting you?” Oooh, "Not that you care," I said, teasing him. He scoffed. " Yeah, I don't. It’s just that I pity the guy. I want to warn him about you." Oh so that's how it is huh? "Well, I thought you said mind your own business? " I replied. Besides, he doesn’t have to know that it was Luke, his own cousin, who was texting me. It’s not like I have to report everything I do to him. He just stayed silent as we reached the other end of the church and parted ways, me to the girl's side and him to the boy's side. I sat in the chair assigned to me, looking over to the other side to spot Luke grinning at me, he gave me a thumbs-up when our gazes met, I smiled back at him. The boys noticed it since Leroy gives me a goofy smile, Dax smirks while Eion just stares at me blankly before averting his gaze. I blush as I look away, embarrassed at being caught, maybe they'll think I like Luke; which is true. These past few weeks that we texted, I think I'd grown to like him. He's nice, caring, sweet, and also respects me. And there's no denying he's handsome... I don't think I plan on telling anyone for a while. Maybe Emma sometime later, but not anytime soon. Beside me, Hannah kept grinning, and I was afraid she'd seen us too. I'm shy to tell her since she's his sister. "What?" I asked innocently, trying to hide the blush on my face. "Nothing," she replied, a knowing look on her face said otherwise. Is it that obvious?
