CHAPTER NINETEEN 19
HI ZANE, BYE FINN
During the closing hours, we were still arranging and packing our few things, so we could leave together when Finn came to meet us.
“Hey guys” He waved.
“We are going home or are you supposed to boss us around during the closing hours too?” Adam yawped at him.
Finn only peered at him and shook his head in frustration.
“Watch it Adam!” Evelyn whispered in Adam’s ear and pinched him on the neck.
“Hi Finn” She said.
“Hi Finn” I forced a smile because I wondered what he was up to this time around; as if the pretence I pulled up during the lunch hour is not enough.
“Mr Adam, your friend and girl-friend and I have gotten along so well. What's stopping us, being same gender, from being cool too?” Finn asked.
Adam didn't say anything, Evelyn and I were speechless too because the question wasn't thrown at us.
“You three should are the luckiest because I have never showed much interest or attention to any other worker here yet I stooped so low, considering my position to you guys level. It should be like a big achievement to you Adam” Finn declared boastfully having a tune of a supremacy in his voice.
“This is why I do not want you close to me. You’re full of yourself, Mr Finn with all due respect” Adam confronted him. We’ve never ever seen him this way, we wondered why he was overeacting irrationally with such boldness. “Let the gap remain between us as boss and worker, no intimacy at all. I don't want you close to me nor my girlfriend “
“Ugh! Is this pugnacious attitude still because you think I want Evelyn?” Finn querried. “Well, I am not here for you. Go to hell for all I care, and listen very good, this is the last time i’ll let you talk to me in such manner. For now, let’s just say you do not realize what you are doing” Finn looked down on him then he turned to me.
“Hey Rita” The scowl-look on his face promptly shifted to a big smile.
At the moment, I didn't know who to support or console between Finn and Adam, before I could utter a word, Adam hissed at Finn and left aggressively, his girlfriend ran after him.
“Rita, you had better be careful with him” Finn warned, I nodded slowly but confused.
“Please forgive him Finn, I don't know what has gotten into Adam, he is usually not like this at all” I pleaded, gently touching his shoulder to make him calm.
“Of course, I will forgive him because of you. Because he is your best friend! Somehow, I envy your crew, you’ve got eachother’s back. Adam literally fought for you the other day and you are doing almost the same thing now. You are pleading on his behalf!”
I smiled; “What are best friends for?” It suddenly dawned on me that people were already leaving: “ Oh! I'll get going now” I announced.
“Come on. I can drop you off, as..a friend” Finn offered.
Hmmn, if it takes cheating on Zane just to enjoy the CEO’s preferential treatment, then I definitely do not like this.
“I.. errm, I'm actually not going home yet” I lied “I will stop y at the grocery store. I have an empty fridge at home”
“Oh great, I can also drop you off at the grocery store” He insisted and I shook my head continuously.
“I might as well drop by at a friend’s place before the store” Lies create more lies they say. “ Just go your way Finn, I'll see you tomorrow” I waved, walking ahead of him already.
“Rita” He called my name.
I turned to look at him…
“I'm so glad that I could make up things with you and now you’re comfortable around me; I just need to get more intimate with you” Finn said.
“I'm.. excited too and I do really feel so special to be my CEO’s closest friend” I responded with a broad beam on my face then I exited the office in a jiffy.
Finn sounded innocent, he truly regretted ever treating me badly. Obviously, his visit at my place during the weekend was to make it up to me and uhm, perhaps he truly fell in love with me too; I could see it in his eyes and the way he speaks to me. He seems pure inside out and he doesn't deserve to be played on. I felt sympathetic and at the same time, I'm not ready to let Finn know that I am in relationship because the only reason why he is still being all sweet and nice to me is because I am kinda reciprocating to his pleasant attention.
I drew out my phone in the bus, Oops! Zane should get used to my slow inactiveness because of we are both working. We’ve only got eachother’s attention during recess but mostly during the closing hours.
He already has sent several messages for me. Yeah! send them in baby, I love reading your messages. I blushed heavily as I proceed to respond to all of his messages and inform him that I was on my way home; maybe we could continue with doing the same thing at the same time, laugh and talk about everything. That's romantic and lovey-dovey enough for someone in a long distance relationship.
