CHAPTER FIFTEEN 15
THE MATCHMAKER
Rita’s POV
Zane tried to contact me throughout last night and even till now, my phone wouldn’t stop buzzling with his calls and several messages. I read and ignored them intentionally.
What sort of a serious online boyfriend hide his face from his online girlfriend? Just what sort of!
I kept pacing around my house, tossing on my bed, missing Zane’s voice yet I wouldn’t pick up his calls. Afterall, that’s the only thing I can miss about him; His voice since he’s faceless.
I kept nagging, yaking and hissing.
I sent messages to Evelyn and Adam because I was bored but they wouldn’t reply. These two became one and indirectly threw me out of the clique.
Messages from Zane kept coming in because he noticed I was active online, I continued to read and ignore them till he’s ready to show me his damn face instead his messages were filled with a million apology.
I scrolled through the gistfeed to kill boredom and as usual pictures and videos of couples, kissing, lovey dovey here and there. I almost screamed.
I received a popped up message from Janet Johnson which reminded me that I haven’t said thank you to this woman since Zane and I got along.
“Hey dear Rita, it’s been a while. How are you?” Read her message.
“I’m fine” I replied simply.
I wanted to burst my heart out here. Also, I can’t go ahead to say thank you to her for helping me find Zane yet because it looks our relationship is about to come to an end.
“I’m sorry for intruding into your privacy but it’s my job because I’m the matchmaker. How are you and your date, Zane?” Janet Johnson asked.
“We are not in good terms at the moment Janet Johnson”
“Oops! All this while your relationship had crash while I was here thinking I’ve done a fantastic job. No wonder you didn’t text me a big thank you” Janet Johnson sent.
“No. It actually escaped my mind to appreciate you” I sent
“Zane and I had a big fight last night” I told her.
“What??” I could imagine she exclaimed just the way she typed it.“Big fight. What happened?”
“Zane won’t let me meet or see him, not even his pictures or a video call. He is definitely hiding something, must be something really huge” I said and typed at the same time.
She didn’t respond immediately but soon did;
“You are right, it is something huge” She responded. Good she reasoned along with me, therefore I'm not over reacting.
“Listen dear, the major cause of quarrel between lovers is misunderstanding. Even a little thing can cause a big quarrel”
“But I’m trying to understand Zane. We were so cool until last night”
“Would you please ask Zane why he refused to let me see him?” I requested.
“I do not need to ask him. I know the reason”
“So what’s the reason?”
“When Zane joined FAP & GM. He told me he’d prefer to date someone online because he has been turned down by other ladies he met physically"
“Ugh! Zane told me it’s been a long time he dated”
“It similar with same plight. Zane has a huge ugly scar on half his face and it doesn’t seem to heal any time soon and it’s really irritating more than you can ever imagine”
Ew, what d’ fvck! Is this a made up story?
“Before you, I match made him with one other lady who broke up with him immediately after seeing a picture of him. At first, she thought it was photoshopped, confirmed with a video call and broke up with him right away. Zane is afraid that you might also do the same to him; I’ve seen his face, he got the fresh-looking scar from an accident. Trust me, it’s irritating” She said and my eyes widened as I read the long message. At the moment, I didn’t know what to say or type.
“You’ll most likely break up with him when you see him. So he wants to date you for a very long time, he wants you to fall in love with his personality and not what looks like. Please Rita, can you do that for the meantime while he undergoes a plastic surgery of his true face?”
What??
“Is he getting a plastic surgery?” I asked.
“Yes, he told me he’ll do a plastic surgery to get back his actual look” She responded.
I suddenly felt bad and sympathetic.
“I love Zane so much Mrs Janet Johnson” I confessed to her. “I didn’t know Zane was going through a lot, I must have overreacted and hurt him with my words last night”
“You could make it up to him by not having the conversation about his face till he brings it up, I’m sure by then he’ld be looking attractive”
“You can also make it up to him by loving him more because all he hoped for is that kind of girl”
“I will” I replied, I began to regret everything I said to him yesterday, I called him ugly, I called him all sort of name that referred to his condition.
“He’ld also like to meet you physically when he has had the plastic surgery and has fully recovered”
“I guess he also lied to me about his location. He said he’s in Canada. What If he lied, it means he is here in United state but not ready to meet me face to face. I could even bump into him one fateful day”
“No! That’s not a lie. He works at Canada"
“Remember I’m FAP&GM admin, I know everything about each and every group member. I have helped almost everyone on the group to find their future partner and settle their differences. Do not hesitate to let me know if there’s anything wrong between both of you again. I’ll always be of help” She said.
“Thanks a lot Mrs Janet Johnson”
“One more thing, do not tell Zane I told you about his face scar; that’s his little big secret. I told you because I didn’t want you two to quarrel over that issue anymore; make it up to him”
“ I will, I must” I was about to send that but a call from Finn came in..
“Hello sir” I spoke formally.
“Sir what? I told you yesterday that I want us to be intimate friends and you are calling me sir?”He shunned.
“You…are..still…my boss” I said one by one.
“Doesn’t stop me from being more than a boss” He responded. I didn’t say anything else. I wanted to hung up the call, call my boyfriend and make it up to him already before it’s too late. But I can’t just disconnect the call because I was speaking to a CEO, I have to wait till he disconnects the call himself.
“Come open the door” He said.
“Huh?! Which door? What door?”
“Your door. I’m in front of your house” Now I could hear footsteps drawing nearer and I could hear his voice out of the phone.
“What??” I exclaimed.
I wanted to ask how he knew where I live but I remembered that he dropped me off yesterday.
“Don’t keep me waiting Rita! Come open your door!” He repeated.
