Chapter 199: Defending The Fortress [11]
Axel tilted his head slightly and said menacingly, “Shall we?”
Then, with no further warning whatsoever, with a simple push of his feet, he dashed forward like a bolt of lightning, but Jaden and his army were prepared very, very much; he had instructed the 80 fortifiers to attack him the moment he moved towards them. Jaden, on that cue, also brought out his artifact sword.
He was an Aura Knight. An expert close combatant, almost unmatched in his prowess in the entirety of his section. So, how could a mere runecaster challenge him on his specialty? Of course, that doesn’t mean he underestimated Axel Nomrad, oh no, quite the opposite in fact. That was the very reason why 80 of the fortifiers were standing against Axel Nomrad alongside him.
The most troublesome thing about Axel was obviously his runic weapons; all the fortifiers were there to make sure that he didn’t bring out some weird artifact or relic, which does something unexpected again.
As the fortifiers saw Axel’s figure move at an impossible speed, they fired the magic spells stored in their artifacts. Those who were standing near Jaden, almost 40 of them, fired different types of magic attacks at him, while the other half remained on standby, ready to attack next.
Axel, at a slightly slowed speed, witnessed as the countless attacks converged on him. From the moment he moved straight towards Jaden. Axel himself was still in motion as his mana pumped up the sword more and more, the lightning cackling from it increased in intensity.
The air itself sizzled and vibrated strongly by clashing against the sparks of destructive lightning. As countless spells consisting of elements like water, sound, air, shock, thunder, smoke, stone, metal, sight disturbance and even mental attack barged in his direction, his eyes turned absolutely sharp, with a low grunt, he moved his sword slightly backwards, empowered the ability engraved on the sword with even more mana. As the lightning power and the blue light of the runes increased even more.
He swung his sword horizontally with all of his might, the countless forms of unique magic shot out at once by the 40 powerful mages clashed with the arc of blue lightning attack of Axel. At the point of impact between the two attacks, the entire area brightened with a scorching white light, as both parties were forced to close their eyes and cover their faces, and shield themselves from the aftermath of the attack.
The white, bright light first caught the eye of the valkyrie. She smiled seeing that the fight on that side had begun, her eyes, which held nothing but boredom till now, showed a flicker of imperceptible interest.
The sharpshooters who were now raining down arrows on the enemy first division, as such, some of the members of that division were forced to focus on defending themselves from the arrows, even though their numbers had dwindled significantly. For being on top of the fortress, they also noticed the flicker of white light on that side of the bridge.
But most of the defenders still remained oblivious to it, but in the next moments….
A resounding explosion mixed with the sounds of roaring thunder could be heard, as the white light grew in intensity as well as luminosity.
After hearing that thunderous explosion, for a moment, all the fighting stopped; everyone on the defensive side, especially those who were in the fortress, gazed into the distance. They couldn’t see everything clearly, but they could see one thing quite well, though.
That rune-engraved attire with a mix of white and blue, that blue hair, it could only be one person. He was standing against all of those Seekers on the enemy side all alone, and they all gasped seeing that, how did he even get there, how did no one notice it? And why was he fighting alone on there?
But there was no one to explain the full story to them, so most of them could only make wild speculations. Vyra smiled seeing him standing alone against all enemies. As for Lucien, he only snorted to himself, ‘Show off.’
The first division of both the attackers and defenders also stopped fighting for a moment, as some of the attackers’ first division members who were behind looked back and saw Axel Nomrad there, they were shocked as they relayed the information to their similarly baffled division leader.
Heinz meanwhile smiled, and announced loudly to his division members, “Axel fucking Nomrad is fighting on that side alone. Against all the remaining enemy Seekers on that side, now this is making us look really, really bad, so lets finish shit and join him on the hunt.”
He looked back towards his division members and grinned in a raging battle aura, “Shall we?”
All the division members of Heinz had their eyes turn sharp at that gesture, and with no further clarification needed, both sides clashed in the dance of violence. The defenders determined to finish them as fast as possible, but the attackers, who had simply gone mad, started fighting as if they were ready to take down their enemies alongside them, even if it meant dying. Their commander had relayed a message to them after all,
‘To not get pushed back no matter what,’ and they would make sure that they would not, no matter what.
As the white light from the point of clash receded, the figure of Axel was revealed, and so was the figure of his enemies. Both parties remained unharmed, but the ground in between them; everything was charred, the ground itself, which was forced to endure the brunt of the attack, turned as black as charcoal.
Axel showed a subtle, provocative smile towards his enemies, and both of the sides remained uninjured; however, the very fact that one Seeker alone had blocked a combined attack of 40 others, simply shook his enemies to their very core. There was now extreme wariness in all of their eyes, fear, apprehension; they were looking at him as if he were a… monster.
Jaden Redmar glared at him with chilling hatred. The guy thought that Axel would be out and gone after that explosion, but the guy’s insidious artifacts saved him AGAIN.
