"During the sudden change of management, we had also conducted an investigation with each employee and stakeholders of the company," Chris recited in front of the board members while his lady-boss was busy doing something on her phone.
Maeve's face looked passive and uncaring which makes the people inside feel more fear and caution towards her.
She was the only one who can bring in the seven bosses of the business industry as mere board members anyway, who wouldn't fear her?
But little did everyone knew, Maeve was busy texting on the phone. It was last night when September called her for the first time after the scene of her asking for divorce.
She can still remember how startled she was seeing September's number flash on her mobile screen.
They just asked each other how they were doing. September never asked about anything regarding the reason why she did all of it and why they need to be apart for months. Instead, they just talked about some random stuffs! And Maeve loves hearing his voice since then.
'I'm hungry...' she typed in like a child.
'Then you should eat. You don't have foods ready at home?' September replied.
'I'm not home,' she sent it with a crying emoji.
'Huh? You're at the office already? It's too early! You haven't had breakfast yet?' Maeve wanted to smile with her husband's reply but she had to maintain her blank face while her secretary explained everything.
'We're having a board meeting,'
'Is that so? Where are you by the way, your office or...'
'I'm at YOUR office, hon.' she replied as the corner of her lips started to rise. But she looked up when she felt a nudge on her shoulder, she saw Remus glaring at her.
'I'm hungry!' she mouthed to his friend who just glared at her once again before directing his attention to the crowd.
She felt like crying! She was hungry and nobody cares about it!
She's just a pregnant woman with an unstable emotions alright? Can't they just let her eat?
She 'tsked' before rising from her seat. Chris and Remus was startled with this action of hers. This is not part of the plan!
"This is taking too much time, let's get to the point," she said in a cold voice as her eyes wandered around the faces inside the room.
The representative of her friends, the seven bosses, nodded at her before her eyes flew to the older people inside.
"We found discrepancies and suspicious loopholes with the Kims," she said dropping the bomb.
Mrs. Kim who looked so composed earlier didn't know how to react. Before, she used the fact that she was one of the original set of board members and September's trust on her to get away from this situation.
But what can she use to escape the grasp of this woman?
"Mrs. Kim, we sent you files and the evidences we found too with the authorities. For now, you are fully excluded with the activities and decision making of the company." Everybody gasped and turned to looked at the old woman who was now red from both anger and embarrassment.
"Who do you think you are to throw me out of the company?!" She shouted when she saw Maeve was about to walk out of the room.
Maeve halted and turned around, she also took a few steps towards the old lady but not too close for precaution. She's pregnant and she didn't want anything to happen to the child she was carrying.
"Me? Who am I?" She asked sarcastically.
"Who am I, Chris?" She called out. Chris wanted to roll his eyes but refused to do so.
"Maeve Miller, CEO of MBC Bank and Finance and STB Corporation." Chris answered.
"Heard that?" She asked mockingly. The old woman was about to attack her but Falcon who just entered the room, interfered between them and shielded Maeve from the old woman.
"Oh! Chris forgot to mention something else about me!" She said making everyone's attention drawn back to her.
"I am the wife of the man your family tried to assassinate," she said with a deadly glare towards the old woman.
"Don't worry. You won't be alone at jail, your whole family is coming down with you, Mrs. Kim." Maeve said before she turned around and left the conference room while the old woman was screaming and causing chaos inside.
"I'm hungry too, baby. What should we eat?" She whispered to herself.
She instantly beamed when she saw Fiona inside her office doing her homeworks.
"Hey baby," she called out, Fiona immediately left her books and run towards her mom.
"Mommy! Daddy sent something for you," Fiona said as she cheerfully pulled her mom towards her desk.
Maeve smiled when she saw a take out order from her favorite restaurant.
"Uncle Falcon brought it over!" Fiona smiled as she recalled what her Uncle Falcon told her.
"Really? Shall we eat then?" She asked the child.
"I already ate, Mommy. That's all yours." The child said before she leave her mom with the food to continue with her homework.
Maeve stared at the packed foods for awhile before pulling out her phone to send her husband a message.
'Thanks, hon. I'm really starving...' she typed in and aslo took a picture of the food and sent it to September as well.
Her phone immediately rang and she answered the call with a smile after seeing September's number flashed on it.
"You done with the meeting?"
"Hmm. Have you eaten?"
"I was about to. Don't starve yourself, please," Maeve chuckled when she heard those words from her workaholic husband.
"What's funny?" September asked, completely lost why her wife would laugh at him.
"Nothing, Mr. Workaholic," Maeve said, still chuckling.
The line went silent after that.
"You should go home, tonight." September stilled when he heard his wife's words.
"W-what?"
"I already did something with the Kims, I think it's safe for you to come home now, hon." Maeve said sweetly.
"Really?"
"Hmm. Really," she responded before her palm landed on her stomach.
"And be prepared because I have a surprise gift for you," she said with a smile.
