Cursed System Chapter 85

RAGNA POV... I held her like that for a long, silent minute, letting the tremors in her body slowly fade as the shock drained from her mind, and only when her breathing finally steadied did I loosen my arms and pull back, forcing a calm smile even as my chest felt unbearably tight. "Nothing is going to happen," I told her quietly, meeting her eyes. "We’re going to be just fine." Then my tone shifted, growing heavier, more resolute. "But we still need to be prepared, and for that... I’m going to need your help. There are too many things I don’t fully understand yet—too many gaps in the truth—but I’m certain of one thing: the children who were taken away were special, just like us." I clenched my fist, my voice firm. "So don’t be afraid. If anything happens, I’ll be right by your side, Oge. I’ll protect our family—you, sister Ada, Mother, Father—everyone. I swear it upon my life." I paused, then took a slow breath. "But before that, there are things I need to teach you. They’re... techniques, I suppose, but learning them won’t be easy, and it might hurt—physically and mentally. I won’t force this on you. I need your permission first, because once I explain them, there’s no turning back. So tell me... are you willing?" As I stared at her, guilt gnawed at me for pushing everything so suddenly, yet I knew this was the only chance—now or never—and if she refused, I would accept it and find another way, even if it meant relying on my minions instead. "Yes," she said after a brief pause, her eyes steady despite the fear lingering within them. "I’m willing." "...Thank you." I exhaled deeply, relief washing over me before I straightened my posture and composed myself. "For my plan to work, there are only two paths," I said calmly. "Either I let them take me—which is the worst-case scenario—or I sneak in myself. And before you start worrying, I’m strong enough to protect myself." I looked away briefly, then back at her. "It’s the only way to keep you and everyone else safe. I might be gone for a while, so during my absence... you’ll have to look after the family." I didn’t give her time to interrupt. "Now, let’s get to the important part before you change your mind. Earlier, with the treatments I gave you, I removed the impurities from your body. That turned you into a halfling—and into part of my family pack." Her eyes widened, but I continued. "After that, I realized your awakening was interrupted midway, which is why you became a halfling instead of fully evolving. At first, I didn’t know what that meant for the future, but after my experiments and discoveries, I found a way—we can restart the evolution from where it stopped. For that to happen, you need to understand how demons work." I swallowed, a bitter taste filling my mouth. "The truth is... I’ve been having a bad premonition lately. An instinct telling me they’ll come sooner than expected. That’s why you’ll need to protect the family when I’m gone." Even as I spoke, my chest burned. Leaving them—even temporarily—felt unbearable, but I would rather die than allow anything to happen to them. ’I’ll never forgive myself if they suffer because of me.’ "What do I need to do?" Oge asked softly, looking at me as if I were about to rewrite her entire life. She was scared—I could see it—but instead of resisting, she chose to support me, and that alone made my resolve harden. I was glad it was her I told; the system only allowed me to cursed a relative, and I wasn’t even sure my plan would work on anyone else. After giving her time to process everything, I told her about my theories, about the black-garbed men, about the dream where the village was slaughtered, about the murderous intent that echoed in my mind before I woke up drenched in blood after transforming into a demonic monster. I spared her the most horrifying parts—especially those involving her—because the thought of them discovering her terrified me more than anything. "Cursed Children don’t grow like humans," I explained slowly. "They don’t age easily, and their bodies undergo a transformation that removes flaws humans naturally develop over time. Their stamina and vitality increase immensely, but at a cost I still don’t fully understand. That’s why they can heal grievous wounds and rarely suffer lasting stress." I looked at her carefully. "Since you weren’t born a demon, you grew up with imperfections—like not developing extra eyes the way I did. After becoming a halfling, most of those limits were removed, but not all. That means... you may or may not require flesh the way I do." "So what do I do now?" she asked again. "By turning you into a demon, I might have doomed you," I admitted quietly. "It could become a gift—or a curse. And I can’t reverse it." She shivered, but instead of backing away, her resolve only strengthened. I instructed her to sit down cross-legged, filling the air with natural mana as I began explaining demon techniques and sub-techniques, guiding her step by step. "If you can learn the meditation technique as a halfling, you’ll slowly nurture your body," I said. "If you feel no discomfort, it means you’re ready for the second stage. And if you master the sub-technique, it’ll help you control your power—and act as a crutch while you learn to truly understand your abilities."
