Caspian woke up alone but considering that bright sunlight was already streaming in, it wasn’t too surprising.
It was more surprising that he hadn’t woken up in the afternoon. He got out of bed to clean up, having a difficult time keeping the memories from the night before at bay.
Caspian was already standing in front of his designated closet before he realized that he actually had no clothes to wear.
The transition from being a bought Omega that had to hide their gender to choosing to stay by Asher’s side without any pretense was so natural.
It was a little hard to believe that just a day ago, he didn’t even live in the mansion anymore.
Standing in front of the frilly dresses also brought on another reminder that he really shouldn’t have forgotten...
He was an Omega, and Omegas could get pregnant regardless of gender.
A lot might have happened last night but he was completely certain that Asher hadn’t been using protection.
He never had the chance to think about having children because getting together with someone hadn’t been a part of his plans.
He had to talk to someone about this. Someone who was preferably not Asher.
He didn’t think he could have that line of conversation with him. With Jael, he could pretend that they were both doing their jobs.
Caspian stayed in his silk robe again, going to the landline to make a call. He didn’t have his phone with him, he had lost it while getting snatched by who he once thought was Nikolai.
Even if he did have his new phone with him, he wouldn’t be able to reach Jael. His old phone was right there and it was just as useless.
"Can I talk to Jael?" He asked tentatively.
Caspian had no idea if it was even possible but he had to try regardless.
The maid who had picked up the phone stuttered a bit before asking him to hold on for a moment.
He did as he was told, his blood pressure spiking. How exactly was he supposed to explain things to Jael? Was it going to be his fault if he got pregnant and Asher didn’t want it?
"Caspian?" Jael’s voice interrupted his thoughts, his frown visible in his voice.
"Jael, hi," He replied awkwardly, fiddling with the ties on his robe. "Sorry to bother you when you’re so busy, it’s fine if you don’t have the time to talk..."
"Just get on with it," Jael cut off his rambling, voice dry.
"I think I’m pregnant." He blurted out
"What?" Jael replied just as abruptly. "That’s impossible."
The Beta’s confident tone should have been enough to reassure him but he went right on, "B-But... last night..."
"Spare me the details," He cut in, sounding a little spooked. "The auction requires applicants to be on inhibitors, don’t you remember..." He started to ask and then cut himself off.
"Actually, nevermind," Jael muttered. "So you’re fine, for a while."
"Ah okay," Caspian simply responded.
Jael was so clinical that he didn’t even feel embarrassed, it was like talking to a doctor about it.
It was a good thing he had spoken to him first, it would be doubly embarrassing to learn this from Asher.
"Um, could I also trouble you to ask someone to get my clothes from the apartment I stayed in?"
"Fine," Jael answered impatiently, "Have any more requests to make of me?"
Jael already hung up before he could get his apology out, but it didn’t taint Caspian’s relief.
Because he knew well that despite Jael’s brash exterior the Beta could be kind - well, when he wanted to be.
Inhibitors worked as heat suppressants and birth control with minimal side effects, it was also really expensive.
Jael had said he was fine for now so when the half-a-year time frame was up, he would probably have to take another dosage.
Now that he had thought about it, it had set up camp in his head.
Did Asher want kids? What would he even define their relationship as? Asher had asked him to make a choice and he did.
It was too soon for him to be plagued by doubts, he had chosen to stay because his naive, inexperienced self had gone ahead to fall in love with the Mafia King that had captured him.
But he wasn’t so naive to think that Asher felt the same. He was content with whatever they had right now, and when it was time to leave, he would.
He didn’t realize how long he sat on the bed, until there was a knock at the door.
"You didn’t request for a meal but it’s already noon, and you haven’t eaten," The maid scolded him as she pushed the tray in.
It was the lady who brought him to this room on his first night here. He could never tell if she liked him or not.
"S-Sorry," He apologized nervously, rising to his feet.
She huffed at his response, placing a hand on her waist. "The boss has a lot of clothes, you’ll catch a cold if you wear that silk robe all day."
Caspian watched her walk off, he had no intention of wearing the robe all day but now he felt like he had to put on something at least.
He made his way to the closet and picked a dress shirt at random, frankly, he couldn’t see the difference between the robe and the shirt.
If anything, the silk robe fit him better. The dress shirt was literally a dress on him, the sleeves long enough to cover his hands.
The maid probably meant well but there was no way he could eat with Asher’s shirt on.
So why wasn’t he taking the shirt off? Instead, he rolled up the sleeves, loathe to take off the Alpha’s clothes.
Even when the clothes that had been bought for him were brought, he didn’t change out of it.
Although it was freshly laundered, and with how many clothes Asher had, probably brand new, if he breathed in deeply enough, he felt like he could catch a whiff of the Alpha’s smoky scent.
