Caspian carefully dried his hair and body before putting a robe on, stalling for as long as he could in the bathroom.
He had even cleaned up his soggy clothes in the shower, Asher’s rings safely on the granite counter.
It wasn’t fear that kept him in the bathroom, maybe a bit of nervousness but he mostly felt anticipation.
Caspian finally took a step out of the bathroom, hesitating slightly when he instantly caught Asher’s attention.
The Alpha was seated by the fireplace, his wet hair damp. He watched him intently, taking him in.
Caspian self-consciously walked up to the seating area to find that Asher had been waiting for him so that they could eat together.
He expected the Alpha to make him sit beside or even on him but Asher seemed content to just watch him.
His heated stare made Caspian’s skin burn, sitting opposite Asher. He wasn’t brave enough to sit closer to the Alpha like he wanted to.
He could barely focus on the food, his appetite waning. He picked at the food, avoiding Asher’s eyes as he pushed it around on his plate.
"You don’t say much," Asher broke the silence, his observation without judgment.
Caspian choked down the food in his mouth, "I didn’t have anyone to say things to," He said without thinking, his thoughts trailing back to Moonstone.
"No one has ever called me a good listener," Asher quipped dryly.
Caspian chuckled at that, he didn’t doubt that.
"But I’d listen to you for what it’s worth," He went right on, not even bothering to eat.
Caspian’s laughter faded away, his voice catching in his throat.
It was easy to talk to Asher. He wanted to talk to Asher.
The Alpha saying he would listen to him made him happy but he couldn’t say it out loud.
He gave up on eating entirely, a little restless. "Thank... thank you," He mumbled, looking away, his face getting stained pink.
Asher’s eyes lit up as he watched Caspian fidget, the Omega’s presence was calming, losing control seemed laughable at the moment.
"Come over here," He invited languidly.
Caspian didn’t hesitate this time, his body still hadn’t forgotten the moment they had in the shower.
He fell easily against Asher when the Alpha pulled him down, meeting his kiss halfway.
