Halima’s POV
I was ashamed of myself. I didn’t know what got into me. Even though I didn’t hear a single thing they said I still felt guilty. Just cause I had a stupid crush on Amir. I was soo stupid ughh. I could’ve just asked her and if she wanted, she’d tell.
So I decided to make up for my stupidity. Y’all must be wondering what I did. Ok so here’s what I did; I asked for Mr Ben’s phone which he gladly offered then called Ya Sa’eed.
After going into voice mail twice he finally picked. I told him to please come to school and tell the school that my parents said since the school was about to close and our “flight” was in thirty minutes, the proprietor should allow me to go with Ya Sa’eed so that we could go. He refused to agree at first but when I told him I’d tell him what happened, he said he was on his way.
After almost five minutes which seemed like forever, he arrived and surprisingly even brought a note from my parents. How I wished he was my own biological brother.
After his act, we drove a little bit away from school and he parked then asked for a reasonable explanation. I told him everything and he was looking at me as if I had grown a second head.
He then said so why did I have to leave school, couldn’t I just go up to her and apologize. But then I reminded him of the fact that she’s been avoiding me all day.
I had the perfect plan in mind. I was sure she’d forgive me when I was done with what I had in my mind. I told him my plan and we drove to the nearest supermarket. We bought popcorn worth almost 5k.
I didn’t have money on me so Ya Sa’eed paid with a deal that I wouldn’t pay him back. What an angel he is.
We also bought some stickers that read I’m sorry, please forgive me and similar things together with balloons that also said I’m sorry everything was in the brightest shade of red we could find at the supermarket.
We immediately went to Fatima’s house and when Ammi (fatima’s mother) saw me, she was surprised. She asked how and why I was out of school almost an hour before closing time. I explained everything to her and she said I shouldn’t leave school again like that. What if we were given a test with no make ups for those who missed it.
After some scolding I and Ya Sa’eed practically ran upstairs to Teemah’s room and as usual, it was well kept. We started decorating the room with stickers and balloons. After that, we kept the popcorn in such a way that wherever she opened she’d see popcorn.
After we were done I thanked Ya Sa’eed and hugged him he pecked on the forehead and said what kind of person would not help me. That made me blush, we laughed and he left the room.
Now to organize an apology speech for my dear best friend. I couldn’t even get a sentence in my brain. I just decided that whatever I say should be okay.
It was five minutes to closing time when I suddenly realized that I had not told the driver I was gonna be here, ughhh. I just kept making mistakes one after another.
As I was lost in my thoughts, Teemah came inside, she looked around and all I could see in her eyes were tears, tears of joy. She was happy, and I was the reason for her happiness.
I quickly apologized to her and before I could finished talking she enclosed me in a bear hug.
We both changed into our casual clothes. I usually come over to Teemah’s house a lot so I had some clothes at her house and vice versa.
We ate our popcorn while watching student of the year 1 and 2 for the nth time. I mentally made a note to myself to tell Amir about how I felt when he brings Kalt for our next sleepover.
But a little voice in my head was telling me to think it through first.
