ARAMIS: No Escape Chapter 9

ARAMIS POV We were only allowed down to earth once a year, but I looked forward to it every time. Our last visit was very recent and I remembered it like it was yesterday. - The wind rustles through the trees and ruffles our hair. We all sat together in our usual clearing, me and my bro, Reah, Xenos and Leav. Reah waved her arms wildly as she excitedly told us about her latest discovery. "Guess what she told me then!" She looked around and raised an eyebrow. Typical Reah, she loved to know something none of us knew to tease us about it. "Tell me Reah." Xenos looked at her impatiently. Short break. "There are mates!" sparkling eyes looked back at us as she told all about the alleged soul mates. My eyes widened in astonishment and admiration, my bro made a puzzled face, the surprised breath was Xeno's account and Leav's mouth dropped open in amazement. Once we realized what image we were giving, we put all our expressions aside and pretended not to be enchanted by the thought of a true mate, we were tough men after all. Except for Leav, his mouth was still wide open, it was a miracle he didn't start drooling. "What nonsense, who believes that?" my cousin looked at Reah doubtfully, Xenos agreed with him. However, Leav did not share our opinion. "I think there might be some truth to that." " Seei daluuhan!" (See!) she gave us all her triumphant look. "Leav believe me." It was also clear that he agreed with her. We all knew he was into Reah except Reah herself, I couldn't figure out how she couldn't tell yet when it was obvious. I wanted to believe her too, but something still stopped me. "Alya must have lied." I said, because I had heard a few times how she would piece together the most beautiful stories and then circulate them. "No she did not." she didn't sound the least bit uncertain and put her hand on her hip. "How do you want to know?" I countered. "I saw it myself!" her eyes sparkled again and my breath hitched, my heart racing. it was true. " Saehva (mother), last time on earth, Reah told us something.." I interrupted the conversation. "What then?" she smiled softly, she knew how much I loved the earthlings. Her silvery, straight hair fell to her waist and hugged her ivory face, which was dotted with star-shaped freckles. "She said that the werewolves and the gi's have mates." I just managed to keep the hopeful note out of my voice, although I was sure that my mother still heard it. "Reah is right, we brought them the gift from the mates." she said and nodded gently. Me and my companion exchanged looks and my wolf jumped for joy before Gaia brought us back to the grim reality. "But that doesn't apply to you." she gave us an apologetic look. "What why?" I couldn't hide my disappointment. "We couldn't give you mates Aramis." my mother leaned forward and looked at me intently, she desperately wanted me to understand and understand her reasons. "As much as we want to give you a mate, our hands are tied. You know, your mission must not be jeopardized. Giving you a mate would only distract you." and make it vulnerable, I mentally finished the sentence. But that wasn't fair! How could they give every cursed earthling a soul mate and not us? your sons? "That's unfair!" I exclaimed angrily. "Certainly it is. Still essential." my aunt said and informed us that this topic was over for her now. With a loud squeak, I pushed the chair back and stood up. " Liavehu ..." my mother started, but I ignored her. My steps echoed loudly from the white marble floor and felt the now silent hall. Without looking back, I walked through the door and into the hallway. The crackling, divine energy enveloped me as I murmured under my breath. "To my room." The hallway shifted slightly and I blindly followed it. I was about to grab the door handle when I heard someone. I sniffed the air and caught an all-too-familiar smell. "Aramis wait." my cousin's voice came from behind my back. "It's not fair!" I repeated softly, my shoulders heaving with my heavy breathing. I was so angry, disappointed and also a bit surprised. It was only now that I realized how much I wanted a mate. "Hmm, maybe." Hesitant and doubtful. "But we have abilities every single creature on earth only dreams of, Aramis. We are demigods! I am an avatar and you are a lycan! How could we be ungrateful for that and ask for more?" That got me thinking. Maybe I really was too ungrateful, I already had so much, how could I ask for more? I stifled the rising blush on my face, grateful that my back was still to him and he couldn't see me. But how could I not long for love too? Love. I cautiously approached the word, twisting and turning it until I felt like I could taste it on my tongue. "Do you think if I gave my powers back, would they give me one?" as soon as the words left my mouth, I immediately regretted them. I knew I could never abandon my mission, it was foolish even to think such a thing. It was an honorable task and actually I never thought otherwise about it. I always felt honored knowing that all earthlings admired and celebrated us, even the gods had great respect for us and our upcoming deeds. I didn't want my cousin to get a glimpse of my feelings either, lest he know how much this news had hit me. I didn't want to admit it to myself. "You would trade your powers for a mate?" I heard the horror and disbelief in it. I straightened my back and snorted derisively. "Of course not." Still, I couldn't kid myself, it was my biggest wish to have a mate and I would do anything to get one. And Serdas knew it. However, what I didn't know at the time was that one day this would be my undoing. Then, with pure telekinetic power, I commanded the door to open and, without another word, made my way to my room.
