Even though she knew that Shane was a very special Hero, Chafne had not anticipated that this Hero seemed even more exceptional than she had thought.
He talked about theories she had never heard before, disregard whether they were right or wrong.
All the Heroes from generations past came from the Otherworld, but once they reincarnated into this world and became the ace of the Divine Race and Human Race, they would naturally take up the path of opposing the Demon Clan.
Including Mitra, it was the same for all of them.
And there were various reasons for their choice.
Some were because of the education and guidance of the Divine Race.
Some were driven by the great righteousness of saving the world.
Some, as humans, as members of the Human Race, thought it their inherent duty to do so.
And some seriously wished to end the war, believing the Demon Clan to be evil, therefore dedicating themselves to eradicate the Demon Clan.
Why did the Demon Clan react so violently when they learned of the Hero's reappearance?
Firstly, because they truly feared the power of the Hero, the threat of the Holy Sword, and secondly, was it not also out of hatred and resentment toward the Hero?
Looking from the perspective of the Demon Clan, they were inexplicably regarded as the embodiment of evil, inexplicably considered the disruptors of world peace, even deemed capable of destroying the world, thus targeted and chastised by the Hero.
To whom could they argue their case?
Of course, there were reasons why the Demon Clan had fallen to such a state.
After all, within the Demon Clan, there truly were many evil doers, many who were bloodthirsty and cruel.
Wasn't Qibul, who belonged to the Ghost Demon's command, from a clan that relished blood and constantly dreamt of draining others' blood to increase their power?
There were many such Demon Clans, and originally it was the Demon King who instigated the war, wishing to kill the creator, the Supreme God, necessitating the God to reluctantly create the Hero Summoning and the two Races, Divine and Human. To say that the Demon Clan was wholly responsible for all troubles was not without merit.
Yet, there were many in the Demon Clan who hoped for peace.
If it was not so, a thousand years ago, the Demon Clan would not have surrendered or proposed peace, trading it for a millennium of tranquility. Ai Yi would not have let go of hatred and ceased pursuing the killing of the Demon King, reigning in their cruelty.
For these beings, being seen as evil was utterly unreasonable.
Chafne had thought that to Shane, the Hero, the Demon Clan would still be seen as the antagonists.
But who would have expected, the Hero simply didn't care about 'positions.'
He had clearly informed Chafne that he wouldn't choose to help the Divine Race or the Human Race because of positions, nor did he believe that he as a Hero ought to save the world and oppose the Demon Clan.
What he cared about were simply his own thoughts, and the people around him.
To be righteous in one's own affairs, this was the best description of this Hero.
He wouldn't immediately decide whom to aid or whom to make his enemy but wanted to see with his own eyes, to judge for himself, and never be swayed by the thoughts and positions of others.
Just as he said, he truly wasn't deeply involved with the Demon Clan, only deeply involved with Ai Yi.
That alone wasn't enough to make him stand completely on the side of the Demon Clan.
Of course, the Divine Race also didn't have a deep connection with Shane.
Even though Anima and Nadura had shown Shane full kindness, owing them some favors, but that still wasn't enough to make Shane relentlessly stand on the side of the Divine Race.
A favor is a favor, a position is a position.
A favor can be repaid, but a position should not be easily influenced.
This was what Shane wanted to express.
Chafne felt that she may have started to understand this man a bit.
"It seems you haven't fully integrated yourself into this world," Chafne sighed as she spoke.
Shane slightly raised his eyebrows.
He understood what Chafne meant, and wouldn't argue.
Because it was indeed the case.
If Shane had blended into this world, then he wouldn't be so self-righteous.
If peace in this world were broken, it would not bode well, whether for the Divine Race, the Demon Clan, or the Human Race.
Shane, with his power and influence that could have tipped the scales, had not tried to maintain that peace to the utmost, which only indicated that he still considered himself an Otherworldly Person, without a sense of belonging to this world. As an observer, he viewed everything in this world, and even if the world was to be destroyed, this world that wasn't his didn't require his concern.
This was Shane's stance.
For such a Shane, hiding his identity previously, and not allowing his identity to become the spark that could break the peace between the Three Clans, was already doing as much as he possibly could.
After all, none of this responsibility, or the obligation, should fall on him, an Otherworldly Person.
Even the reincarnation into this world was treated by Shane as a transaction.
Nien gave him a second life through reincarnation, and so he would help Nien overthrow the Demon King – this was Shane's initial thought.
This thought had not changed to this day.
Unfortunately, the current Shane now knew that the Demon King had long perished, the situation of the world was much more complicated than he had imagined, and there were many hidden truths he was unaware of.
Taking care of his own affairs was troublesome enough; being a Hero who saves the world was sheer folly.
