Emily’s Pov
“Emily, Blake is here to see you,” Linda announced when she opened the doctor’s room where I was sitting and drowning in my sorrows.
“I don’t want to see him.”
“I told him that, but he said he’s not leaving till you come out.” I sigh in frustration, anger, or sadness. Either of them is making me feel sick.
I stood up and walked to the front desk, where he was waiting. His eyes were bloodshot and looked like a total mess.
“What do you want?” he stood up straight when he saw me, dragging his hands through his messy hair.
“Thank you for taking care of my mother,” he said without apologising.
“How is she?” I asked, folding my arms.
“In rehab. I booked her in this morning.”
“Good.” I turned around and walked back to the Ed.
“So that’s it?” he yells afterwards. I stop dead in my tracks trying to breathe, a technique he taught me before I go off like a lunatic and get fired today.
“You left me with your mother, who overdosed. What if she died? Do you really think I would’ve been able to manage that after my mother died of an overdose? Don’t you think I would’ve wanted to help my mother? Do you have any idea how I felt while I helped your mother? And you decided to go off on a drinking spree and leave me.” I try to say it as politely as I can, but my veins are boiling from anger.
“Don’t walk away from me, Em!”
“You promised to never break me, and you did the worse thing, you left me with a drug addict and I had to save her, so forgive me if I’m not in a mood to commit to a promise you never intend to keep.” This time I didn’t turn around. I walked inside the ED and ignored the burning pain in my heart.
“Everything okay?” Linda asked, concerned, and I just nodded.
I kept myself busy with filing and Taking care of patients, the last thing I Want playing over and over in my mind is Blake’s mother throwing up and crying about how she could never save her daughter, and Blake blaming her for walking out of his life.
He had no excuse for leaving me with his mother, even though he had a terrible childhood. I know she hurt him. I think that’s the worse thing a mother can do, is leave a child with a father that only cared for fame and made him grow up with no feelings, but His mother lost his sister because his father didn’t want her, how was she supposed to act?
“Aren’t you going home?” Michell asks when I check up on the patient charts. I peeked at the clock and it was already 2hours past my shift.
“I didn’t notice the time.” I smiled and tried to hide why I’m still lurking around here.
“Come, let’s go to dinner, my treat.” He offered and demanded that I take a break when I declined it at first, but what a hell, I can use a distraction right now.
I grab my jacket and followed Michell outside.
“So, this is your promise to never leave?” Blake yells. Did he seriously wait here until I came out?
“Just give me a minute,” I asked Michell.
“What are you doing?”
“Waiting for you, but clearly you just like the fucking rest” everyone turned their attention to us when Blake lost it in the parking lot.
“Can you keep it down please, and what do you mean by the rest?”
“Everyone always leaves. So go and have your date or whatever you fucking planned on doing with whoever that is.” he points a finger at Michell, who ignores it, and for that I’m glad. I can’t play referee between them right now, and to be honest, Michell will just end up in the freaking ICU.
“I’m not going on a date. He works with me and we’re just having dinner.”
“Yeah, and I just fucked a girl!” he said without blinking. My heart dropped and the knife he pushed inside my heart last night twisted and it’s bleeding without stopping.
“Go home, Blake.” I turned around, and he hit his fist through he’s window, making me jump when the glass broke.
Michell walked closer, but I shook my head for him to stay away.
“I’m sorry. I will see you at work tomorrow.” I said to Michell, who looks concerned about the way Blake is acting.
“Please call when you need me.” I nodded, and God forbid I won’t even dare to call. That would only make things worse, and I know Blake will never physically hurt me.
I walked closer to him where he stood with his hands on the car, his head bent and out of breath. I don’t even know how to approach him.
I’ve seen him scared and durable and a jackass, but I’ve never seen him angry.
“Are you okay?” he kept quiet, not wandering my question.
“It wasn’t a date. We were only going for dinner and then I would’ve gone home. Please look at me.” he turned around and look with disappointed in me.
“Please don’t look at me like that. What was I supposed to do with Blake? You left me with your addicted mother.” I folded my arms to protect myself from the outburst his about to have, but to my surprise, he pulled me closer to him and kissed me on the forehead.
“I know that was wrong. I just couldn’t handle seeing her like that,” he whispered. My heart breaks for him, and the pain he’s feeling right now ripples through me.
“I am sorry that you had to deal with it. After everything you went through, I had no right to do that to you.” he took a string of my hair and placed it behind my air and stroked my cheek.
“It’s okay. As long as she gets the treatment now, she should be fine.” I gave him a small smile, and he pulled me in for a hug.
“Let’s go home so you can have some rest,” I said to him and he gave me the most adorable yet sad smile. You can see that no one ever took care of him. He was had to defend himself, not that I had anyone to take care of me, but that’s what we both need. We need each other to learn and to face our demons together.
