Chapter 74 Misunderstanding
Lanny bumped into Bella, standing outside the door as she scampered out of the office. She almost frowned at the thought she would always run into her after being humiliated by the president.
However, she immediately remembered all the moaning and panting she did inside the office before walking out. She thought Bella had probably heard of that and was probably jealous of her.
As she walked past Bella, Lanny showed a sultry look and pushed her chest forward, acting as if she had just finished doing it with the president.
Bella stepped aside to make more room for Lanny and watched her back until she disappeared from her sight.
After considering the idea that the president liked her, Bella had initially planned to pass her resignation. She did not want to work with a man who desired her as that would be unfair to Edward.
However, those moans she heard from Lanny and that smug look on her face were all she needed to disregard that thought. She realized that it was all just a misunderstanding, and the president did not like her.
This discovery relieved her as she did not have to deal with such a dilemma and resign from work.
Once she had finally regained composure, Bella knocked on the door to announce her arrival. She immediately saw the president fixing his tie as she walked into the office, and she could only think of all the things he did with Lanny.
When the president had set eyes on her, he wore a surprised look. "I thought you're going home? Why are you suddenly back?"
"I came back to say thank you," Bella said, then bowed a little to show gratitude.
"For what?"
"I learned you saved me at Queen's Bar last Thursday night."
"That's nothing. I only saved you because we're both werewolves," the president nonchalantly said. "Even though you don't have a wolf, I can still feel it."
The president's words enlightened Bella. She also realized that only an Alpha and a CEO like him could have such a great power to make the LAPD chief resign and have his son die in a staged accident. All her questions were finally answered after worrying so much.
His actions so moved Bella that she could not help being emotional. "Thank you so much. If it wasn't for you, I don't know what could happen to me...."
"Again, it's nothing," the president reiterated. "It's just an instinct for wolves to protect their kind."
The tears pooled in Bella's eyes and shot him straight in the heart with pain, but he could no longer show her sympathy while bearing the president's name. He did not want to make things harder for her.
Bella nodded her head. She then heaved a sigh as she had to bring up the matter regarding her close colleagues.
Knowing the president's personality, she knew it would be a huge risk trying to defy his orders, but for the sake of the people who cared about her, she did not hesitate.
"President, I would want to ask for your help." Bella tightened the hold on to her coat and cautiously said, "It's about Jenny and Kelvin."
The president raised his head and stared at her in silence.
"I appreciate what you have done for me. You also did them a favor by announcing they resigned on their own to avoid humiliation, but they didn't do anything wrong," Bella said to speak her mind. "I believe they are one of our company's great assets as employees. They are both hardworking and dedicated to their job, so I'm wondering if you can hire them back."
"You know I hate irresponsible people," the president coldly said.
"I know." Bella's heart thumped with fear. "But everyone makes mistakes, and they deserve a chance to correct them. Besides, they are not really at fault. They did not want that to happen."
Seeing Bella's persistence, the president sighed heavily and said, "I can take them back, but you have to promise me that I wouldn't have to deal with another headache. After all, a beauty like you always tends to invite danger."
Bella lowered her head sheepishly. She did not know what to say regarding that last sentence, but she was already relieved to hear that he would give Kelvin and Jenny a chance to prove themselves.

Under the impression that Edward went to the hospital for his checkup and therapy, Bella waited for him as she had arrived first after taking the afternoon off from work.
"Honey, you're finally back!" Bella walked up and hugged him tightly.
"You must have missed me so much," Edward said with a smile and kissed the top of her head.
Bella let go of him and took his hand, helping him to the couch.
"I can tell you're in a good mood. Did something happen today?" Edward asked, raising a brow.
Nodding her head, Bella told everything that happened. She could not hide her enthusiasm that things turned out well that day.
"What?! Kelvin is gay?!" Edward sat up straight with wide-open eyes.
He never once thought that his rival might end up being gay. He was bewildered at first, but he eventually stifled a laugh.
Bella pouted at his reaction. "What's funny about that?"
Edward immediately stopped smiling and pursed his lips.
Bella took a deep breath, suppressing her anger and crossing her arms. "Do you know how heartbroken Jenny was?"
"I'm sorry." Edward raised his hands to surrender, but he had a sneer on his face.
It was not his intention, but Edward thought back to Kelvin's mannerisms and how he dressed. He was surprised that he had never suspected his sexual orientation.
It was all his fault for being blinded by jealousy.
"Whatever now! I'm going back to my room and read!" Bella rolled her eyes and got up to leave.
However, before she could take a step away, Edward reached out and pulled her into his arms. "What about me, huh?" he asked. "Won't you ask me how my checkup and therapy went? Don't you care about me anymore?"
Bella's heart felt a tug of guilt as she had forgotten about Edward's checkup. Her head was occupied with all the events she had encountered that day.
"I'm sorry...." She wrapped her arms around Edward's neck. "I was too preoccupied with other things."
"I know..." Edward gently smiled and wrapped his arms around Bella's waist. "Anyway, I have another good news for you."
Bella pulled herself away to stare at Edward's face properly, looking very expectant. "What is it?"
"Dr. Leonard said my leg is recovering well. In about half a month or so, I should be able to walk again."
"Oh my! That's great!" Bella said, clapping her hands excitedly. "We should go on a trip to Hawaii by then and celebrate your recovery! What do you think?"
Edward pressed a soft kiss on the tip of her nose. "Anything you want."
