Lydia’s P.O.V
Lyric hadn’t been too thrilled at the idea of me meeting his brother and that was understandable. But I felt like I had to meet Derek. There was something important I had to discuss with him and it could only happen if I went to this party.
It’s not like I couldn’t just go over to their house and meet him, but it would be better in a formal setting where Lyric could introduce me properly to his family. Derek had no idea that our parents knew each other and that was my advantage. Whatever he must have told his parents to get rid of his guilty conscience, it would be a blow to his ego to learn that his parents couldn’t outrightly hate me.
There was a knock on the bedroom door right then, snapping me out of my trance and I called out to Lyric to enter before I got down to the finishing touches for my makeup. I’d kept my look simple yet elegant for today’s event. There wasn’t any dress code so I’d chosen the steel blue colored floor length gown that my mother had packed for me, in case there were any occasions at school or elsewhere. It had saved me a trip to the mall.
I had curled my dark hair in loose curls down my back and I had worn two sapphire danglers for my only jewelry, except for my watch. I was applying a rosy nude lipstick when Lyric entered through the door and out eyes met in the mirror.
He wore a black shirt with black pinstripe trousers and a white tie. Since his hair was longer now, he had it combed back from his forehead. His only accessory was a watch and his jacket was probably in the living room where he was getting ready till now.
Lyric’s eyes widened slightly as he looked at me, before a smile spread on his face. It made me want to smile as well…
“I am glad to see you.” I told him instead as Lyric came up to stand behind me.
“You don’t need to say anything.” He bent down to my height so he could whisper in my ear. “Your eyes express everything you feel.”
He pressed a kiss to the juncture between my neck and shoulder, making me shudder. The skin on my neck tingled even after he had removed his lips.
“Don’t you ever wonder…what it would be like if I could express myself?” I asked him. “If I could smile or laugh and cry?”
“I wish that all the time,” Lyric told me. “But not for me, for you. I want you to be happy and safe. That bullet in your head worries me every second, but if it’s safe for you, I don’t mind. So don’t think for a second that I don’t understand you or that you need to change to make me happy.”
“Yeah…” I shrugged. “You do get me.”
The smile that lit up his face was breathtaking. “Are you ready?”
“Yup.” I got up from my vanity. “How do I look?”
“Absolutely breathtaking.” Lyric sighed. “There’s going to be a lot of attention coming your way tonight.”
“Don’t make me nervous.” I told him sternly. “I’m this close to quitting and staying home for good.”
“Then how about we ditch the party?” Lyric grinned devilishly. “We can always Netflix and chill.”
“Oh, stop it!” I glared at him. “There’s no getting out of today’s event. I need to see your parents and your brother…especially, your brother.”
“You seem ready for a fight.” Lyric frowned. “Why are you so angry at Derek?”
“Because he’s been hurting you…unintentionally.” I added when I saw him frown.
“Were you always this protective or is this a couple’s thing?” Lyric narrowed his eyes at me but I could see the slow smile creep in.
“Well, you should’ve noticed it before you asked me to be your girlfriend.” I told him with my hands on my hips, but suddenly, I found myself pressed to Lyric’s chest with his wrapped tightly around my waist.
“Then I guess I’m stuck with you.”
With that, Lyric pressed his lips to mine in a feather-light kiss that let me wanting more. He pulled back slightly to look at my face with a smirk on his hips.
Wrapping my arms around his nape, I hauled him down for a full mouthed kiss, no-holds-bar. I felt his arms wrap around my waist as his lips moved hungrily over mine. Lyric pulled me flush against his chest, so much so that I could feel every breath he took with the rise and fall of my chest.
The sudden rush of desire through my veins left me seeing stars as passion liquefied in my veins, spreading to regions that had remained dormant for the past three years. Lyric flicked his tongue over my lips and I opened my lips for his exploration, letting him take control. Lyric moved a couple fingers up my spine and I felt the effect of it to my toes, shivering in pleasure that almost felt like pain.
Had kissing someone always felt this good? Or was it because I was with Lyric? Or was this rush of desire this intense because I had been celibate for the past three years? Whatever the reason might be, I didn’t want it to stop.
I don’t know how long we had been kissing, but when Lyric finally pulled back, we were both out of breath and wrapped so tightly in each other’s arms that there was hardly any space between us.
“Mmmmm...” Lyric’s hum vibrated against my chest. “If we don’t stop now, we’re not going anywhere tonight.”
“You’re right.” I pulled away from him and turned towards the mirror to see if anything got smudged, meanwhile I tried to calm my racing heart. My hair was fine except for a couple stray strands that I combed back into place, but my cheeks were flushed and my pupils were dilated. It was nothing a bit of loose powder couldn’t fix, but my heart was still racing.
“Ready?” Lyric asked in a husky voice before he cleared his throat.
“Yes.” I ran my hand through my hair one last time before turning to him. “Let’s go.”
