"Prepare the defenses!" A middle-aged Silverfang shouted across the settlement walls. He pointed at the ballistae, raised his hands as the massive bolts were pulled back, and cleaved downward when the crab monsters entered the ballistae’s range. The massive bolts whizzed through the air and entered their targets with a crunch.
Several crabs squealed in pain, but most hit targets collapsed to the ground. The ballistae bolts did their work and pierced through the crab’s thick shells and penetrated their soft flesh. The crunching noise filled the air for a moment, but that was about it. The cacophony created by more than a hundred thousand frightened monsters was worse.
"Reload and fire!" The man shouted again while retrieving a bow alongside the remaining archers. He nocked an arrow on the bowstring, pulled back, and fired. The other Archers followed his action. They filled the bow and arrow with as much energy as they could contain without breaking apart and released a hail of energy-infused arrows. The arrows propelled through the air in a beautiful arc until they struck the serpents. The arrows exploded upon collision, the energy infused into the arrows was unstable after hitting the monsters, and killed the creatures.
Hundreds of monsters died in the next few seconds, but that wasn’t enough. There were too many monsters to deal with at once.
"Silvarean Tigers!" Someone shouted, and the Summons, who had already advanced to Tier-4, moved out right away. They didn’t hesitate in the slightest and jumped across the settlement wall to charge the monster horde. They shot forward, hair growing from all over their body. Their bodies expanded and elongated, and their hands transformed into large claws.
Some Summons expanded and remained bi-pedal, whereas others transformed into full-fledged Tigers the size of an average car. A handful of Summons transformed into larger Tigers. They were more than two meters tall and six meters long. However, their fangs were the most terrifying. They had two elongated, razor-sharp fangs that tore through the crab’s shell like a hot knife cut through butter.
They were the Silvarean Sabertooth Tigers, a superior kind of the average Silvarean Tiger. Their muscles bulged as they shot forward, evading the initial lunges of serpents shooting forward to cleave through the serpents with their claws. Their claws cut deep into the enemies, killing them in a single blow, which was expected when Higher Lifeforms fought hordes of Lesser Lifeforms.
There were only a few High Beasts among the maritime creatures attacking them. Still, some of them were truly powerful. They used their innate advantages, evaded the Silvarean Tigers, and reached the settlement walls, where they were welcomed by a series of arrows, crossbow bolts, and ballistae bolts.
Even though most Silverfang Summons weren’t combatants, everyone could do something. Nobody wanted to stay behind while their combatants did something. Therefore, the warehouse filled with crossbows, bolts, and other tools was opened. The crossbows were brought to the walls, where they released a salve of crossbow bolts before the crossbow would be replaced with a loaded one. The empty crossbow cartridge would be filled once the crossbow’s string was pulled back and locked in place.
Even some youngsters helped by catching tools, weapons, and other goods required from the warehouses. They ran back and forth to supply everyone and helped out where they could. In the meantime, the combatants killed enemies in the thousands. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough.
Before they reached the settlement walls, more than 20,000 maritime monsters had been killed, leaving them with 80,000 or more to attack.
"Open the gates and charge ahead!" A Silverfang Champion shouted, and the guards obeyed. They were scared about what would happen once the gates opened, but more than three thousand Silverfangs were ready to charge out of the settlement.
The gates opened, which led to a massive brawl between the maritime monsters and the Silverfang Summons.
Neither side seemed to be on the winning side. The Silverfang Summons pushed the enemies away, killing dozens of crabs and serpents, but some monsters managed to bypass the pile of monster carcasses forming in the entrance. That was not all. More monsters climbed the settlement walls. They were shot, arrows and crossbow bolts piercing their eyes and vital points, but fear was instilled in their hearts.
Some defenders screamed in fright rather than pain as more and more monsters reached the settlement. One of the screaming defenders was about to be struck by a crab monster’s pincers when a squeal filled the air. A blue shadow descended from the sky, picked up the crab with mighty talons that crushed the monster’s shell at once, and carried it into the air. A freezing breeze brushed through the air before a dead – frozen to death – crab crashed to the ground on top of another crab. The frozen crab crushed its brethren and crumbled into countless pieces.
In the meantime, the young defender, who had been screaming until a moment ago, looked up. There he saw the children of Caesus. The Frostglider Eagle with his children.

That was fun.
