SHE LOOKED CALM.
Mara could hardly bear another surprise sitting beside levin in the car, she clutched her hands together wondering where he was taking her. He could call it a mystery trip, she called it "irritation". Just then he break the silence, don't you think we should change the name of the cookies "to what". It somehow funny so I think we should go for something else, okay what name do you have in mind, what about" to "Treat or creamy Goo. That will really knock the customers on their ear"you don't have to get sarcastic. I just thought we could think of something unique.
"I like your choice".her voice rose another deebel, he liked them too, but he quickly dismissed the thought seeing the topic was going nowhere he knew he had better halt the conversation, "let hold that thought we have other things to worry about now'. We have to get a nice shop...
She had never considered levin would want to change the name of her business. She slided a glance at his eager expression and wished she could be as enthusiastic.
"Here we are". He said, pulling into a parking lot, he stepped down from the car. Still puzzled, mara climbed down from the car and followed him to the side walk. He paused infront of a greasy spoon dinner, then sent her a sweeping gesture. "What do you think". "Don't tell me ". Yes, but it already occupied, not for too long, they are moving out of this place soon, and it spacious for other things too, he had a point. Mara lifted her eyes heaven ward. Lord, did I hear you correctly? When she lowered her gaze, she felt levin's hand on her arm "what do you say? Want to go inside ".
She tried to control her spiraling thought. levin's hand felt warm against her cool arm. He had meant well, she knew. When she gave it some rational thought, what had he done but try to find an appropriate building? The only think he had done wrong was failed to realize that mara wanted to be in charge, and if she were honest, she liked to be right.
"Okay". she said, "I can't see any harm in looking ". "That what I thought ". He said. She heard a voice in his voice she did not like, she was willing to cooperate, would he?
Mara keep saying she did not like the shops he keep showing her, they keep driving around Italy without mara seeing the shops she likes, she keep saying no to all the shop levin showed her, at a time levin was already regretting if he made the right choice been business partner with mara, after touring everywhere, levin finally decided to call it a day, "let continue tomorrow mara". He decided to drop her home.
When she get to her doorstep she said.
"I won't do that again". He wondered if her crossed -arm, head -down stance was for effect or if she actually did regret what she has done. "Am deeply sorry". It okay mara, we will continue tomorrow, thanks for today," it my pleasure ".
Often truth seemed out of reach. Levin longed to know more about mara.
She had dragged things out of him that he had hope to forget, at times he witnessed sorrow in her eyes.... Something deeper than sorrow, regret, helplessness, fear, one day he hope she will tell him more about herself.
He walk out of her doorway and zoomed off, immediately he get home, he went inside inside his bedroom, stripped off his clothes and got into bed. It had been a long, mostly unproductive day,Sleep did not come easilly and his mind refuse to settle down, sleep finally came after several hours of waiting.
Johnson called mara on the phone and told her he is already on his way home, mara was so sad because she wanted to give him some cookies before going, please Johnson don't tell Kylie you saw me here in Italy, why not mara? I don't want to disturb him that why, "oh I see". Ok I will not tell him anything, I will see you when I come back to Italy, i will be looking forward to see you too, okay safe trip, bye.
They say their good byes on the phone and mara cut the cut it call.
Bryan was surprise to see how levin was now getting along with mara, even he wasn't that close to her yet, he feel left out, he order for pizza online and took it to mara doorstep, he rush inside immediately he finish dropping the pizza on her doorstep, when mara stepped outside to buy some noodles, she saw the pizza "who could have dropped this here". She saw a small letter on it, all she sees in the letter was "for you". She picked the pizza up and walk back to her room thinking it must have been Michael or levin that dropped the pizza for her, she devor the pizza to her heart content. Bryan was so happy to see she has carried the pizza, he was full of joy and excitement.
