It was a new day. There were different kinds of sounds coming from each direction of the Hospital. Noise from voices of nurses, doctors and patients. The sound was becoming too much and it was unbearable. Different people were walking in different directions. Few were busy while few were crying for their lost one. Few were rejoicing for a successful delivery while the others were crying that their operation wasn't successful.
Meanwhile, Mr. Evidence's operation lasted for the whole of the night.
Rose and Mike were still seated, Rose had fallen asleep while Mike was still awake. They had waited so long and since no doctor had come out from the operation room, Mike began to get scared that something bad had happened.
After some time, In Rose's, dream, she could see a doctor walking towards their direction and the next thing she heard was ;
"See me in my office." Immediately she opened her eyes, she had seen a doctor stand in front of them and was talking to Mike to see him in his office and immediately Rose realized that it wasn't a dream any more, she forcefully stood up from her seat with her sleepy face and was about to follow Mike to go see the doctor in his office, the doctor stopped her.
"Where is Mr. Evidence?" She asked but the doctor didn't give her answers to her question but instead, he said;
"Please, you can sit here and wait for him. I want to speak with Mr. Mike. I won't take much of his time. Just sit and wait for him. Thank you." The doctor said,
She started to panic. Instantly, The fire and fear in Rose's eyes intensified but she didn't want to create a sin. All she did was to say "okay" as her face turned red, her tears were threatening to fall but she just kept trying to be the strong lady she had always been ever since her parents left her alone in this world.
Mike, who was already standing and was ready to go with the doctor to his office said;
"Don't worry, everything will be fine." Mike said as Rose continued to tear up. She moved closer to the doctor and held his shirt and couldn't stop crying.
"Where is Mr. Evidence?" She asked the doctor.
Rose, Still crying, after sometime, she left the doctor's shirt and ran towards Mike and said;
"Everything will be fine? That means nothing is fine yet? Where is Mr. Evidence? The operation is over and I know. So, where is he?" She asked but before Mike could reply to her, the doctor already started talking.
"Who are you to Him?" The doctor asked Rose but she didn't know what to say and how to start. Before she could reply to his question, Mike already answered the doctor.
"She is My Boss's fiancee." Mike said as Rose looked at him without saying a word before the doctor said again;
"Ok then. If she is, then it's fine. You both should follow me to my office. There is something important you need to know about his condition."
Inside the Doctor's office,
The doctor sat on his seat as he offered Rose and Mike a seat as well.
"You both can have a seat." Said the doctor.
Rose and Mike sat as they waited impatiently to hear what he had to say to them concerning Mr. Evidence's condition.
The doctor cleared his throat as he drew his seat closer to the table and sat up right. He creased his brows and pitched the skin in between his brows. It was obvious that he didn't know how to break the news to them especially when Rose was there.
Meanwhile, Rose and Mike who had seen his expression didn't know how to react to it. They knew the news wasn't going to be a good one because they already knew that blood cancer was a dangerous illness and it was rare for anyone to survive it after going under an operation.
Removing all the blood in someone's body and replacing it with another was a very dangerous thing to do.
Rose and Mike were still sitted and waiting for him to break the silence.
The doctor took a deep sigh of relief as he spoke.
"Why didn't you bring him earlier today for the operation before it got to this?" The doctor asked Mike.
"He refused and said he wanted to postpone it to a day after yesterday which is this very day." Mike replied as Rose looked at him with an astonished expression and said to herself inwardly.
'Mike knew all this while?' She said within herself as she didn't say a word. All she was interested to hear was Mr. Evidence's current condition and not his past.
The doctor sat as he surveyed Rose and imagined how her expression would be after he told the news. Before he could say a word, Rose, who was impatiently waiting for him to break the news, suddenly interrupted.
"Doctor, please, where is Mr. Evidence? Was the operation successful? Is he okay? Say something." She said as Mike nodded, signifying that Rose was right and that the doctor should please say something.
"The operation was successful." The doctor said as Rose forced a smile on her face and as she was about to let out a shout of joy, something bad interrupted.
"But." The doctor said,
"But What?" Rose and Mike asked the doctor the same time.
"During the operation, we found out that he also had a brain tumour and it almost ate him up. The good news is that we also operated on his brain and it was a success but…" he sighed. "But it affected his brain. I mean… he might not remember everything when he wakes up." He said and looked at Rose and Mike to hear what they had to say and immediately, Rose spoke.
"Where is he?" She curiously asked.
"He is in a coma and he isn't going to wake up anytime soon. Right now, he has just 20% of survival."
Mike was speechless and immediately Rose heard what the doctor Said. She started crying again as she spoke.
"Is he going to die?" She asked. Her voice was weak and was filled with so much pain.
"Tell Me, is he going to die?" She asked again as she stood from her seat, not knowing what to do. She was still impatiently waiting for the doctor to reply to her, but since she didn't get any reply from him, she got frustrated and shouted at the doctor.
"Tell Me! Is he going To die!?
She cried bitterly as Mike stood up from his seat and walked towards her to uphold her.
It was so obvious that she was in a confused state. She just heard the doctor say Mr. Evidence had just 20% of survival and she was still asking if he was going to die?
The doctor felt pity for her and stood up from his seat before he walked towards Rose and said;
"Please calm down. My self and other doctors would try our best. Our hospital is one of the best here in the United States of America. Trust Me, I will try my best. I will." The doctor said as Rose looked at him and said to him with a weak voice and with the tears still flowing from her eyes.
"Please Doctor… please do anything within your power to save him. He is all I have. He is my everything, Doctor. Do anything… Just anything. Anything doctor please…" she cried as Mike was still trying to calm her down.
What the doctor said was he was going to try his best. That wasn't a guarantee of Mr. Evidence's safety. And even if it was a promise he made to Rose, that doesn't mean he was giving her a100% assurance of Mr. Evidence's safety. He only said what every doctor would say.
"Have you informed his family members?" The doctor asked and Mike said;
"He said I shouldn't." Mike replied as the Doctor took a deep sigh before Rose said;
"Please can I see Mr. Evidence? Please can I?" She pleaded.
"Sure! You can but you can't enter the room where he is. You can only look at him from the glass." The doctor instructed. He stood up and led Rose and Mike out of his office, heading towards the world where Mr. Evidence's room was located. When they got there, Rose couldn't stop crying, she just stood outside as she stared at Mr. Evidence's unconscious body that was wrapped with white bandage through the transparent glass. When she saw him, she placed her palm on the glass and fell with her knees to the ground as her hands slid downwards on the glass, leaving a mark on it. She cried bitterly and her cry started to draw attention from people. The sound of her cry forced the doctor to tell Mike to at least take her outside.
"Please take her outside and calm her down. I'm Sure, with time, she will be okay." The doctor instructed Mike and Mike did as he was instructed.
