ANGELIQUE SLOAN’s POV
The magnificent sensation of bearing jewelry filled with diamonds on my ring finger still seems surreal. Truth to be told, this is the first time that someone has ever surprised me this way. During the days when I was still a student, I used to be courted but was always mistreated.
No men bothered to give me flowers or even the bare minimum of giving me the assurance that they’re in love with me as a person, and not just because of my body.
“Are you still not over how I gave you the ring?” Greyson asked as we were heading over to the building of his friend’s company.
I shrugged both of my shoulders. “I can’t believe how you didn’t even think of proposing in a proper way,” I jokingly said. When I turned to look at his expression, there was something missing. It doesn’t seem like he was in the mood for jokes and his mind was kind of occupied. “Now that we’re disguised as couples who weren’t even married officially… should we still set boundaries?” I asked to ensure that I wouldn’t be going out of limits from what I should only say, do, and ask.
“That still depends on the situation, Angelique,” he coldly replied without batting an eye on me. He proceeded over to the lobby. I knew it, there’s something bothering him right now and I think that it wouldn’t even take too long before he reveals it to me. “Can you go up to the seventh floor and give this to the first woman that you encounter in room #707?”
Greyson gave me some files that were supposed to be handed over personally by him, but it might have changed now that he has me as his secretary. “Sure. I’ll be back in a few minutes.”
I rode the elevator by myself as everyone preferred to use the stairs. After pressing the number seven, I took a peek inside the files as soon as the doors closed.
There were numerous names of women that I don’t know. Some of their appearances seemed to be familiar to me but their names weren't. It was as if they were all using some screen names in order for them not to be recognized by anyone that they knew.
“Is this some sort of illegal work?” I mumbled to myself.
The sound of the elevator doors opening almost made me flinch, thinking that someone from the other side was waiting for me. Luckily, there wasn’t.
Room #707 was the first one on the hallway which is why it wasn’t difficult for me to search for it. I immediately used the doorbell and waited for someone to open the door for me.
“Who is it?” a woman spoke from inside the room. “I don’t remember calling anyone here except Greyson. Who are you?” she added to her question. She probably saw me from the camera.
“I’m Mr. Giovanni’s secretary,” I answered.
A few seconds passed by before she decided to open the door. “Secretary..? You? As far as I know, Greyson doesn’t hire just anyone to be his secretary. And as of the record, all of the applicants who attempted to be his secretary all failed since he disliked all of them,” she said as she crossed her arms in front of her chest.
“I’ve just been recently employed, so I don’t really have an idea about what you’re trying to say…” I mumbled, pretending to be completely clueless despite the fact that I’ve known Greyson for the longest time more than anyone else here. “Anyhow, Mr. Giovanni asked me to give this to the first woman that would entertain me in this room.” I stretched out my arm to give her the documents that I was holding onto.
The lady browsed the files and I noticed the look of displeasure evident on her face. “What the hell is this? Are you sure that this is from Greyson? You’re not trying to take me as a fool, are you?” I attempted to read what was written on the paper, but she instantly pulled it away from my sight. “Your task is done here. Get lost,” she rudely said, followed by the loud thud as she shut the door closed.
There wasn’t anything that I could have said at that very moment. “This woman…” Her voice was the same, even the way that she acted was the same…
I’m sure that the two of us knew each other. She’s just pretending not to know me either.
But the question here is— for what purpose?
I shook my head as I went back to the elevator.
When I returned to the lobby, Greyson was already looking at me as I was slowly walking towards his direction. “How was it? Did she say anything about you being my secretary?” he inquired.
“Nothing in particular. It’s not that much of a big deal that you’ve hired a secretary either way,” I replied. “But Greyson… Exactly what was inside those files? She didn’t seem to be happy with what she read there, so I can’t help but to be curious about it.”
Greyson held his chin, probably thinking if he would tell me about it or not. “Those were records of the women who I’ve already spent the night with,” he answered in such a serious manner. “The woman that you gave those files to are the ones who arranges the schedule. Who I should be with for the night, what am I supposed to wear, how am I supposed to approach them… What kind of experience are they looking for in a man… Those are supposed to be your task, but she refuses to give it to anyone else.”
“So she’s basically the one who exploits women to you?” Greyson hummed as a response to my question. I bit my lower lip, realizing the danger of the job that I’ll soon be doing.
“The break’s over, they’re coming,” he said.
“Who are you pertaining to?”
“The women that you’ll hire to spend the night with me for the rest of the week.”
