I was completely shocked when I heard the news. I looked at Ashley as she desperately looked at me and asked, “What happened?”
I was not in the state to let her know anything. I held her back here and promised that she would be okay. I couldn’t believe it and even it was hurting because she was my sister-in-law, but I was scared that Ashley would hate me now.
What if she really does hate me? she would go around and say that it was my fault.
I was more concerned about the fact that the happiness on her face would fade.
“Hello? What happened?” She waved her hand in front of me and I looked sideways. She had to know it anyway, so I handed the phone to her.
She looked at me and then at the screen, the call was still ongoing.
She kept it near her ears and heard. she should have realised what happened.
I was scared to know her reaction, so I kept my head down. After a few moments, I looked at her.
“Ashley?” I asked, as she looked completely lost. “Are you okay?”
She didn’t say anything. Her face was blank and emotionless. She got up and went out of the house.
I followed her as she sat on the driver’s seat.
“Wait for me!” I said to her, but she drove off. I think the thing that I feared the most, happened.
I was depressed on that thought. I can’t lose her. We have worked so hard for what we are now. I have trusted her through everything, I hope she does trust that I was sure that she will live…
I was scared and I went back to my house.

Ashley
I reached the hospital in a hurry. My mind was freaking out and I was not able to think straight. She can’t leave me!
I reached the place and got off. I ran inside to the receptionist.
“Hello. I am here to see Lara Jones. I got a call--”
“Ward 842 please”
I sighed and went to the lift. I was so shocked. I don’t believe that she left me. She has to be fine. Vincent said that she was just mildly poisoned. How can she die!?
I reached the floor and ran to the ward door. There was someone standing at the door.
“Hey, let me in. I am her sister” I said to the person.
She looked at me, up and down and then made a mean face. “Only blood relatives can go inside”
“She has blood relatives alive and moreover, we have been living together for years!”
“From my data, you have not been living together from last months pertaining to some fights, I can’t let you in”
“Some fight!?” I almost yelled.
“Yes”
“But that is some wrong information you have!”
“I am sorry, then what was the reason?”
“I got married!”
“Can I see your marriage certificate?”
I thought. Firstly, I don’t have one because marrying Vincent wasn’t that legal after all. And I am not even married… I divorced…
“Well…”
“As you have no prove to back up your words, I can’t let you pass”
I groaned in frustration and went downstairs. This was simply stupid. There is no such policy as far as I know.
I complained the same to the receptionist.
“I am sorry, I can’t help you in going against the hospital policy”
“But this--this is not even a policy! can’t I even see my dead sister!”
“Are you sure she has no blood relatives?”
I started remembering the past. No matter how much time has passed, it still hurts the same when I remember it all.
She had no sibling and her mother committed suicide, but her father was still in Jail, if I am right…
I suddenly remembered that Chris told me my parents were out of prison. I think maybe her dad was too?
I should ask him. No matter how many problems we have with each other, I think maybe, maybe for once he could be of any help.
I took out my phone. I stared at his name. It was quite difficult for me to call and ask for help, but I seemed to have no other way.
I called Chris.
“Ashley?” His voice was shocked.
“Yes. I wanted to ask something”
“Yeah?”
“You told me that my parents were released from the Jail. Was Lara’s dad released too?”
“Um…” he thought. “yes”
“Can you find his location?”
“Will you forgive me, if I do?”
I didn’t seem to have any reasons to prioritise myself here. “Yes”
“Okay”
The call ended and I sighed.
I really don’t wanna face my mother’s lover. This is gonna be a serious issue for me.
