What just happened?
Everything seemed like magic to me; it felt unreal but I knew it was. I’d just been thrown into a situation from which I couldn’t get out. Alexander had just told the entire school that I was his.
How do I get away from this, especially from his maniacs vying for his attention? Why the hell did he leave those girls who had been waiting for an opportunity and choose me, someone who couldn’t care less about him or how famous he was?
All eyes were on me. He succeeded in ruining both my lunch as well as my peace at college. Nothing I could say right now would convince them; they’d all think I was making an excuse for being bounced. My presence here was not going to help either. I’d better get out of here before someone throws their food at me out of disgust.
I was about to leave after dropping the tray on the table when I was pulled back by my shirt, face to face with the girl who the maniac was always seen with almost every day.
Everyone thought they were a couple until he debunked the rumors by saying they weren’t true and humiliated her in front of the entire school for spreading rumors. I suppose it was time for her to exact her vengeance on me because I’d just been announced as his girlfriend and she wouldn’t believe it was a lie.
“Do you think a thing like you could get a guy like him?” With a sneer, she asked.
I replied, shaking my head, “I don’t. I'm not worthy of him,” trying to free myself in any way possible.
“I don’t think I need to warn you twice about staying away from him. You’ve always been a nobody, and I advise that you stay that way. Don’t expect to become famous because of this little show. You know how the outcome will be if you think you can act proud or something,” Samantha said, and I nodded.
I didn’t have anything to say to her. All I wanted to do was get out of there before the incident rose. Besides, I had a lot on my plate, dealing with the arrogant Alexander and keeping him away from me. This here with Samantha was the least of my worries.
“You don’t have to remind me, he’s all yours. There’s no need for a warning. Can I leave now if that’s all?” I asked as politely as I could, despite the fact that my body was tense and I was on the verge of exploding, just because I just wanted to avoid a fight. I against her goons who are always by her side wouldn’t be a fair fight.
“Good. Since you have received the message loud and clear, there is no need for you to be here. You can leave now because you disgust us here,” she said, motioning for me to do so. I smiled at her before leaving.
I had to look for Katie because she was the only one who could advise me on what to do in this situation. I’m afraid I’d go insane if I didn’t get an answer. I dashed back to class, but she was nowhere to be found. I also tried calling her number, but it did not connect.
‘Where could she have gone?’ I asked myself. Katie always told me where she was going. I had to keep my cool for the rest of the day at school, avoiding everything related to Alexander and Samantha because I don’t want a repeat of what happened in the cafeteria. I just wanted to find my friend and tell her what had happened.
At the sound of the bell, I quickly gathered my belongings and exited the school, ignoring the call of Alexander, who, of course, wanted to strike up a conversation. Samantha stood behind him. The maniac was only looking for trouble, and I wasn’t in the mood to play their games.
I flagged a cab and got in after giving the driver my directions before putting on my headphones and quietly listening to my song to calm my nerves when the buzzing sound of my phone distracted me and I picked it up to see who it was; it was a message from Katie. I was about to kill her for leaving me alone at school when I saw the message’s content.
‘Hey, babe, I’m sorry for not telling you before leaving, but something came up at home. Dad called to tell me that there was an emergency at home. I had to leave quickly. I’m at home now, so come over with your books.’
At the end of the message, there was a wink emoji, which made me laugh. She had a way of brightening my day, and I hoped the emergency wasn’t too serious because her sadness was the last thing I needed right now. I want her to be happy, and I’ve always tried to make sure I see her happy every day.
The cab came to a stop. After paying the cab driver and exiting, I dashed towards Katie’s, which was in the opposite direction of my house, and took the elevator to the fourth floor. I lightly knocked on her door and waited for her to open it. Because I assumed we’d be going home together, I forgot to take the spare key she’d given me.
I drew her in for a hug as the door opened, and we both staggered into her house.
“Jeez Katherine, what’s the hug for? Did you miss her that much?” she asked, and I nodded my head repeatedly until she smiled. “Aww my big baby, I’m so sorry I had to leave you like that. How did your day go?”
“It was hectic, but I’ll tell you about it later. What happened at home? What was the cause of the emergency? Did something bad happen?” When I asked her, she shook her head.
“Everything is fine at home. Dad pulled me in to talk about his surprise birthday party for me and told me to invite my friends over. So, will you be joining me for it this weekend?” She questioned, and I smiled and nodded.
I love her family so much. Her parents are the epitome of what I wanted my parents to be, and her mother was always supportive of her children no matter what they did. She always encourages them and tells them that they should do what they enjoy rather than what others suggest.
I’ve always wanted my mother to say that to me, but I doubt I’ll ever get her to, but now I'm getting it all from my dad’s new wife.
My weekend with them was the best, and more lively than my weekend with mum. Now I don’t want to spend weekends at mum’s place again. Also, I’m glad it wasn’t bad news that took Katie home, but good news. That was a relief, and I’m glad.
“So, love, what was hectic about your day?” Katie asked, bringing me out of my thoughts. “I only left you for half a day, and you’re already stressed out. What are you going to do without me?”
I smiled as she teased me. “Because you abandoned me, I was heartbroken because I was all alone, and it stressed me out, and you know how I hate being stressed.”
“Yeah, I do, but if that were the case here, I’d believe you. Now, sweetheart, tell me what really happened today.”
I sighed, wondering how she’d react if I told her about my run-in with Alexander and Samantha.
She has always hated Samantha, and this would allow her to hate her even more and give her the opportunity to give her hell, which is something I'm trying to avoid.
“Well, go ahead, I’m all ears,” she said, pulling me out of my thoughts for the second time today.
“When I tell you about it, don’t yell or get excited because I’m not and you shouldn’t be,” I warned her.
“Why? Is it something that will rile and excite me?” She asked, and I arched my brows pointedly at her, and she chuckled. “Just kidding, I promise I won’t get excited, love.” She raised her pinky.
She has always despised Samantha, and this would allow her to hate her even more and give her the opportunity to torment her, which is something I'm trying to avoid.
I smiled, knowing she meant it, then drew her to the bed where we both sat down while I told her about the incident.
“That is great! This is perfect!” she exclaimed with delight.
“How can this be perfect? I’m doomed, and you’re happy?” I scoffed at her.
“You’re going to do something that will help every lady in this world who has had their heart broken by him,” she said, and I could tell she was excited about everything that had just happened to me.
“How can someone like me help every lady with whom he has played?” I asked, raising one of my brows at her.
“You’re going to play him,” she stated.
“WHAT?! This is insane, you are insane, and I am leaving." I tried to get out of bed, but when she saw me, she yanked me back in.
“This will be more fun if you listen carefully,” she said, and I sat up to pay attention. “You’re going to be his playtoy. Make him fall in love with you, then break his heart.” She exclaimed, clapping her hands in delight while I yelped.
‘I knew that tending to her idea would be one side of a coin. If I fail to make him fall in love with me, I may fall in love with him,’ the thought ran through my mind, and I tried to change the conversation between my heart and mind in silence.
Will I be able to make him fall in love with me, or will I end up falling in love with him?
