Kate's eyes were red and filled with a silent plea.
Daniel paused for a moment.
Before he could say anything, the child in his arms shrank back. He looked at her carefully.
"Daddy's here with me today. Can I not sleep in the attic?"
"There you go, talking nonsense again. When have I ever made you sleep in the attic?" Kate quickly responded.
The child almost exposed her away.
Luckily, she calmed herself and kept her voice gentle.
Daniel, however, wasn't fooled by Kate's tricks.
The look on his face showed he wasn't buying it.
"Don't listen to Rai's nonsense, Daniel. How could I ever make him sleep in the attic? He's the precious child of this house. I'm also his aunt. I wouldn't treat him badly. Please believe me!"
Kate absolutely hated the brat in front of her.
She wouldn't have locked him in the attic if he hadn't stayed wide awake during the storms and ruined her sleep. Out of sight, out of mind, as they say.
Her plan to win Daniel's heart with her gentle and nurturing image was falling apart. Was this little brat trying to ruin her?
Why didn't throwing him off a cliff kill him?!
Daniel shot Kate a cold, menacing look. His voice became chilling. "Children's words are often the most honest!"
He didn't spare her another glance and walked away with Railer.
She started to get anxious at his cold attitude.
She took a heavy step to follow them, only to have the door slammed in her face.
What am I supposed to do now? I can't let this misunderstanding go on.
Wouldn't all her plans be ruined if Daniel shut her out?
This is all because of that little brat!
Kate gritted her teeth. She was itching to rush in, grab the brat, and throw him down the steps from the top floor.
It would be perfect if he died in a horrible way!
The butler, Mr. Charles, stood nearby. "A hot bath and fresh clothes have been prepared for you, Ms. Bently. Please follow me."
Kate had to hold back her growing anger as she noticed how drenched she was. A smug smile crept across her face. "I'll change in Daniel's room."
"That would be inappropriate, Ms. Bently. Mr. Wilson has instructed us that no one is allowed to enter his room. He'll be upset if I allow it."
"I'm about to get engaged to Daniel, Mr. Charles. Is it not okay for me to use his room? Or do you dislike me? Do you think I'm not worthy of being by his side?"
Kate uttered the cruelest words, but her face was filled with pitiful expressions as she cried.
However, Mr. Charles didn't change his decision.
"Please don't make this difficult for me, Ms. Bently. Come with me to the guest room."
She silently clenched her fists. Even a mere butler was in her way!
But that wouldn't stop her.
She took the clothes into the guest room, then, when Mr. Charles wasn't paying attention, slipped into Daniel's room through the balcony.
She went into the bathroom to shower and waited patiently for his return.
It had been five years, and she had never even touched his hand. Maybe it was because he didn't know her well.
She was sure that Daniel wouldn't be able to resist her if she found the right chance.
By then, no one would be able to stop her from marrying Daniel.
Not the brat Railer or that mysterious woman!
She was determined to get what she wanted.
She quickly washed up, changed into her pajamas, and got into bed to wait for his return.
She didn't turn on the light, hoping to surprise him.
Something felt wrong as soon as she got into bed.
Was there someone else here?
Had Daniel come back while she was in the shower?
Kate's heart raced. In her excitement, she reached out and hugged the person next to her without thinking.
"You're quite excited, aren't you, Ms. Bently?!"
She screamed and jumped up at the sound of the man's teasing voice.
The lights in the room flickered on.
She turned pale when she saw the man on the bed. It was Philip!
Quickly, she tried to cover herself with her pajamas. She pointed angrily at him. "Why are you here, Philip?"
This was definitely Daniel's room. Why would he let this worthless man sleep in his bed?
"What? Do I need your approval to sleep in his bed? You're the one who snuck in here. What are you trying to do?!"
"You're shameless!" Kate wanted to vent her anger but was worried the servants outside would hear.
Nothing had happened, but the gossip would ruin her reputation if the Wilson family found out.
"Well, I'll admit that I am shameless. But I'm nothing compared to you, Ms. Bently."
Kate tried to slap him angrily, but Philip blocked her hand.
"G-get out! Daniel won't let you get away with this when he finds out."
"Why wouldn't he? Is it because you touched me? Or is it..."
Philip said sarcastically, "Because you lost your innocence to me? Hmm, that doesn't sound right. You never had that to begin with."
"What are you saying, Philip? What do you know?"
"What's wrong? Are you scared?"
"My feelings for Daniel are true. I have nothing to fear."
"Feelings? True? You and I both know you don't feel any of that! It doesn't matter what I know. What matters is that you can start counting your blessings if you try anything with Daniel again!"
He stared at the pale woman. Despite how pitiful she looked, it didn't trigger any mercy in him.
Her mouth dropped open. She had nothing to say.
Philip was pleased with her reaction and left the room.
Kate leaned against the wall, cold sweat covering her. She couldn't move from where she stood.
Fear rushed through her, leaving her anxious for a long time.
Philip was usually quiet, but now he was showing his fangs toward her.
Philip approached Railer's room, only to be met with a murderous look from Daniel as soon as he entered. Philip was ready to talk. "Can you stop glaring at me like that, Daniel? Do you know who I saw in your bedroom?"
"Shut up. Come inside and check Rai immediately."
Daniel said in a low voice, careful not to wake up his son, who had just fallen asleep.
Philip's expression turned serious as he checked the boy's pulse and took his temperature.
