"Sir, that sound..." Ashton Wright quickly stopped the car. His heart felt like it was about to jump out of his chest.
Daniel didn't respond. His fingers slid along the seats, and it wasn't long before he found a small yellow magnetic disc under the mats.
The light above was still flickering.
Daniel's face darkened in the dim light.
"Sir, i-isn't this a tracker? Impossible. I checked everything before we left. How is this here?!"
Ashton stared in horror at the flashing red light in Daniel's hand.
The flashing wasn't showing their location. It was counting down the seconds of his life!
Daniel rarely got angry. He turned on his computer and quickly launched the Wilson family's data analysis system.
He attached the disk to the back of the computer, and the system hummed to life. Before long, a series of data updates appeared on the screen.
In just three minutes, Daniel located the source of the signal.
A dark expression crossed his face as he saw the target on the map.
Impossible. They wouldn't dare to do this.
Although, he seemed unsure.
Ashton stood nervously by his side.
Ashton worried that Daniel would be upset and send him far away to Alewell, a distant country, to suffer.
The car fell into an eerie silence until Daniel's phone suddenly rang.
"Sir, Railer is missing! He's gone again!"
Daniel's expression darkened. "What?!"
Had it happened because he had been too scared? Was it because he hadn't been home to stay with him? Or had Railer been taken again? Daniel looked troubled as he remembered the tracker and the security breach from the day before.
The housekeeper struggled to speak over the call. "I... I don't know. The surveillance system wasn't breached, but Railer is missing!"
Daniel crushed the tracker in his hand. "Find him!"
Meanwhile, Kate seethed silently at her residence and was consumed by her frustration. How could she let it go?
How could she possibly let someone like Steve Walter trample all over her and tarnish her reputation?
She had already sent someone to deal with Steve, but the first priority was the 400 million.
Roman Bently almost fainted when Kate mentioned the amount.
Luckily, Mrs. Ruby Bently was there to support him and help him sit on the couch.
"What did you say? 400 million? Why do you need 400 million, Kate?"
"Dad, don't worry. The 400 million might seem like a lot now, but I'll become the global ambassador. I'll marry into the Wilson family and be one of them. What's 400 million when I'm part of the Wilson family?"
Kate said with confidence, but deep down, she was skeptical.
She was well aware of the Bently family's cash flow!
Four hundred million was a huge amount. It would require dishonest methods even if it could be gathered in one day.
That's why she mentioned the Wilson family, hoping to convince Roman.
"Can you really convince Daniel to marry you with the Global Ambassador title? I've seen how he treats you over the years. You're just dreaming. You forget, there's still someone standing between the Bently and Wilson families!"
Roman saw right through her.
The person who was responsible for Wesley Wilson's death and betrayed Daniel was someone from the Bently family!
Daniel had shown the Bentlys a huge mercy because of Kate, but getting them to marry again wouldn't be easy.
Kate pouted her lips, "Don't you have any faith in my charm, Dad? I've done so much charity work in Mr. Wesley's name. Daniel might be cold, but eventually, he'll have to notice me. I'll definitely be a lady of the Wilson family!"
"Why don't you ask Daniel for the 400 million then? 400 million is nothing to them! Does he think it's beneath his dignity?"
"Dad, these are critical times! How can I ask him? What will he think of us if he finds out we don't even have 400 million? I can't have a marriage with no dignity. Plus, he can't know about the charity work I've done or all the effort I've put into my image will be wasted!"
"No! You can tell me the world is ending tomorrow, and my answer will still be no!"
That was because he didn't have that much!
Once Roman made his decision, he stopped paying attention to Kate and went upstairs.
Kate was furious. Grief and frustration overwhelmed her.
What am I supposed to do now? Dad won't help me. How am I going to get 400 million?!
Time was running out. Was this how her life was going to end?
Kate gritted her teeth angrily, grabbing anything valuable around her and smashing it on the floor. Her fury didn't subside even after everything in the living room was destroyed.
Ruby returned downstairs and saw the mess, disappointment on her face.
"What's the point of losing your temper? Have you forgotten everything I taught you?"
"You're still making sarcastic comments, Mom?! If I don't get that title, how am I supposed to marry into the Wilson family? I'd rather die than lose my chance!"
"Enough with the talk of death. My daughter is the best, and she has to marry well. Here's the key to the public account. Take it and do whatever you need with it."
"Huh...? Dad gave you the key?"
"I took it secretly. Don't let your father find out. The company has been stable recently, so it shouldn't be a problem for half a month. But Kate, are you sure you can marry Daniel within that time?"
"I do. My grand wedding will be close once I get that title. Thank you, Mom!"
Kate boasted proudly and hugged her mother.
"Good. My daughter is as ambitious as I am. Only my baby daughter is worthy of being the lady of the Wilson family! If it weren't for that bitch, Chantelle, we wouldn't be in this mess. By the way, has that little bastard in the Wilson household been taken care of?"
"He's lucky. I don't know how he came back in one piece and was able to talk! But it's strange. We were lucky he didn't start talking nonsense to Daniel. We'd be in real trouble otherwise!"
"Take care of him quickly. Life as a stepmother isn't easy and isn't suitable for you."
Kate gnashed her teeth and arranged for the 400 million to be transferred to Chantelle.
She was filled with agony as she pressed the transfer button.
If she hadn't figured out what that woman was planning, she would never have agreed to give away the 400 million!
