Brody's POV
Thomas opened the door with a spare key and we both walked into the apartment. "I can't stay here." I told him and walked out of the house almost immediately.
I wondered if Karen was comfortable in the small and dusty house. After a few minutes he came out of the house with a frown on his face. "Why did you leave?" He inquired.
"I just couldn't cope with the dust, the room's dirty and unkept. You don't stay here, do you?"
"Well, I did stay here," he said and my eyes widened. "Not for long, it was just for two days."
"I can't even stay in that room for more than a minute. It just doesn't suit me." I replied.
He cleared his throat. "Karen's not in the room." He told me.
My heart raced rapidly. Where could she have gone to? "Have you checked everywhere?" I asked.
He nodded and sat on the floor. "I don't know what to do, she's not there but I don't think she went somewhere far." He answered.
I frowned. "Where could she have gone?"
"I don't know."
"I shouldn't blame you for this but this is mostly your fault too. You should have told me that my father wanted you to take her to another country and I would have handled it probably."
"Really? So I'm the bad guy now? Would you have believed if I told you that your father was a criminal? Would you have believed if I told you that your father had intentions of destroying your family?"
I went silent and avoided his gaze, he was certainly right. I would have never believed that my father only wanted me for his selfish ambition. I would have never believed that he was greedy. I would have never believed that he would want Karen out of my life and that was the major reason I didn't have plans or bringing him out of jail.
"I'm just scared. What if she wants to commit suicide out of depression. I'm sure Karen loves me but she could want to kill herself thinking that I didn't love her."
"You should trust your wife and know that she's an angel. She's a lady that would never give up on the person she loves." He replied.
"I love Karen so much to think right now."
"Nothing will happen to her."
I shook my head. "No, you shouldn't have brought her to this house without informing me." I told him.
He scoffed. "Aren't you an ingrate? I couldn't just leave her at the mansion because I was sure your dad would kill her. I didn't want her to die and being grateful for my actions wouldn't hurt." He told me.
He was definitely right, I shouldn't be rude to him because he was a major help to me. "I'm sorry, I don't know why I reacted that way. It's not my fault though, I'm really in love with Karen."
"She has not been kidnapped, I'm sure she's probably somewhere. You don't have to be worried unnecessarily."
I chuckled softly. "I wouldn't if it was that easy, I'm really worried right now." I told him.
He smiled at me and I brought out my phone, my eyes widened at the amount of text messages and phone calls from my mom and sister. "What's wrong?" He asked.
"I45 missed calls within a short period and 20 messages from my family." I told him.
"Your phone was on silent?" He inquired with a raised eyebrow.
I nodded. "Yeah, I guess so."
"They must be worried about your dad, they've probably seen the news on TV or read it on one of those blogs." He said.
"Pretty sure they did." I replied and scrolled through the text messages.
"Where's Dad?"
"Is dad really in jail?"
"What's going on? I'm getting scared."
I read some of the text messages with a loud voice and he laughed. "Your father must really be a good man." He remarked, jokingly.
"Far from good, he's not even kind." I replied.
He ran his hands through his hair and stared at the floor. "I don't know how the cops found out." He muttered.
"I don't know but he must have made a mistake in his illegal business and the cops must have found out about it. That's the only thing I could think of."
He nodded and leaned on the wall. "You're right."
"You were just lucky to have pulled out of the syndicate before he was arrested."
"I'm really lucky bro, I'm really lucky."
A smile plastered on my face as Helen's phone call came in. "Hi sis, I'm sorry I couldn't reply." I said as soon as I picked the call.
"I don't know what to do right now, I'll be in Texas very soon. I'll be heading to the airport in the evening." She said and I heard muffled tears in the background.
"C'mon, don't tell me you're crying because of this issue?"
She couldn't reply for a few seconds and I felt a little bit bad. "He's still my dad even though he is the leader of the syndicate and I'm going to get him out of jail."
I chuckled softly. "No, I don't think it would be possible because of the public's opinion. Dad's certainly going to reveal the names of the people he's worked with and that would make all of them go to jail." I explained gently to her.
"I don't care, I'll do whatever I can to bring him out of jail."
"Some people died because of dad. His gang members killed innocent people and I can't support wrong activities. I'm sorry but I can't let you bring him out of jail. He has to pay for his crimes." I told her and handed the phone to Thomas with tears in my eyes.
He switched off the phone and handed it back to me. "I'm sorry." He murmured.
"You didn't want to talk to her?" I asked him.
"No, I don't want her to be worried about me." He answered.
"I'm really concerned about Karen right now."
"There's someone behind you." He muttered and I turned back to see......
