"What drives you into this? I’m curious," she said, looking at him in a cute and poised manner.
Jeff was a bit starstruck for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure as he responded, trying to focus.
"Well, no particular reason," Jeff said, his voice filled with enthusiasm.
"I just love programming, maybe because of my childhood dreams, you know, from playing too many games. Just the idea of making those apps literally excites me."
"I see," Jessica finally understood the purpose of his dreams.
"What kind of game exactly?" She asked.
Jeff replied with eagerness, his voice filled with passion.
"Well, the game I used to play when I was a kid is League of Legends, you know, that 5v5 MOBA game. Also, PointBlank, that shooting game like counter strike. And my favorites are Minecraft and Roblox because..." He kept going, excitedly explaining why he loved each game, his words tumbling out as he relished the memories.
Jessica could see that when he was speaking and telling his story, he was much happier, so she just sat there and listened, enjoying the energy he brought to the conversation.
She couldn’t help but remember a rumor she had heard it’s that boys tend to be much more active when it comes to games-related conversations.
"I see," she replied.
Even though she didn’t have any idea about those games since she didn’t play them.
"What about you?" Jeff asked, curious.
"Me, I don’t play games," she responded in a calm tone.
"I see," Jeff said, while nodding.
"Then why did you choose to become a nurse?" he asked, sensing that she wasn’t as into the conversation about games and wanting to shift the topic.
"Well, the same as you," Jessica said.
"My mother is a head nurse, and my father is a department head at a hospital. So maybe I was exposed to that kind of life, which made me want to become like them." Her eyes were filled with determination, and Jeff could even see a spark, like stars shining in them.
"Wow, I didn’t know your mother and father were so amazing! Why are you renting a room? Since you must have a house in here right?" Jeff inquired.
"Well, that’s because I want to be independent, you know," Jessica replied calmly, her expression firm but composed.
"Even if my parents could support everything, I didn’t want to rely on them for everything forever."
She looked ahead, her voice steady, "I’ve seen how hard they work in the hospital like my mom doing long night shifts, my dad handling so many responsibilities. They always told me that no matter how much we have, learning to stand on your own is something money can’t teach."
Jeff listened intently, the admiration in his eyes growing, "Living on my own teaches me how to manage my time, handle responsibilities, and make decisions for myself. It’s not just about studying. It’s about preparing for real life. Because once I become a nurse, I’ll be dealing with people’s lives. I can’t afford to be someone who panics or waits for someone else to solve my problems."
"So, even if it’s hard sometimes, I’d rather struggle now and learn to be responsible other than be comfortable and unprepared later."
Jeff nodded slowly, clearly impressed, "That makes sense," he said softly.
"I’m just surprised that your parents accepted this idea of yours." he finished.
"Accepted? What do you mean?" she tilted her head, looking slightly confused.
Jeff was confused, "Accepted your idea to be responsible," he said again.
"Oh, they didn’t. I just ran away so I can work on myself. Even if they tried to take me back, I would still leave. This has been going on for over a year. With no choice, they can only let me be," she said, her voice sounded calm.
Jeff, hearing this, was stunned and speechless, "You’re really serious about this," he said, wide-eyed.
Jessica smiled faintly, "I have to be. It’s not just a dream, it’s a commitment for my future self"
"Well, that’s amazing," Jeff complimented, genuinely impressed.
"Yours as well," she replied with a smile.
Jeff felt her good intentions, since from his stories there is nothing special about him at all especially his crazy ass dreams when he was a child.
But thanks to this interaction, Jeff finally had an idea of what kind of person she was.
She wasn’t the aloof and cold girl he had first assumed.
In fact, she was passionate and serious, which he found amazing for someone who grew up with a golden spoon.
Her determination and drive were clear, and it impressed him even further.
"Oh yeah, it’s the closing end of our school year. Do you also have your own research defense?" she asked, wanting to find some common ground to talk about.
"Yes, we do. It’s for our final exam. Don’t tell me you have one as well?" Jeff asked, raising an eyebrow.
She nodded with a smile. "Yes, we have one, and it’s also for our upcoming final exam. What’s your research title?" she asked.
Jeff didn’t hesitate for long, deciding to spill the beans since it wasn’t really a secret, and he was enjoying the conversation.
"My research title is called, Genesis: An Offline AI-Powered Virtual School System for Improving Learning Among the Students of Christina Academy Inc" he stated.
Hearing this, the smile on her face froze and then broke. "What?" she tilted her head, clearly not understanding what she had just heard.
Jeff repeated what he said, causing Jessica to look even more baffled and stunned. She paused for a moment, wanting some clarifications.
"Wait, what does that even mean? A feedback system for writing and essays?" she asked, still processing.
"So you’re telling me that your research study is related to AI?" she finished, still a bit surprised.
"Ahh, yes," he responded.
"But isn’t yours a bit advanced?" she pointed out.
"AI isn’t particularly well-known, and it’s not kind of alarming for it to be made into a research paper."
"Oh, you’re right about that. That’s why it’s called Genesis, because I want it to be the first ever to be studied and defended," Jeff shared, explaining his idea.
Jessica, still feeling was unbelievable, responded, "Then what is your source to defend this? Because I haven’t heard of, or even seen, an AI capable of improving learning, much less in a school where there are already lots of teachers doing that," she asked, clearly curious but skeptical.
"Well, for my source, I’ve created an AI for that, and my teacher has already accepted the app I made. The research paper is already done, so yeah, there’s no problem," he said confidently.
"Are you serious?" she asked, feeling like she couldn’t fully grasp it.
Everything Jeff said sounded so far-fetched, and it left her feeling a little dumb for not understanding.
Seeing her look, Jeff took his phone out of his pocket and passed it to her. The app was already open on the screen.
Seeing the phone and Jeff motioning for her to take it, she hesitantly took it, glancing at the screen. It looked like a chat box, with a clean, simple interface.
"So this is the app you made? What should I do?" Jessica asked, her eyes scanning the minimalist interface of the Genesis AI app on the screen.
Jeff leaned back in his seat, a relaxed look on his face. "Just type whatever you have in mind in the chatbox. Ask it anything."
Without hesitation, she placed her fingers on the keyboard and typed.

"That’s actually really detailed," she murmured.
Jeff hearing this offered a small smile, "It’s meant to help students study, not just answer questions. You can ask it about medical procedures, symptoms, anatomy and pretty much anything your books cover." he said to her.
"Since I fed it a lot," Jeff thought to himself, watching her play with the app.
Jessica, still engrossed in it, couldn’t help but say, "It’s like having a private tutor on demand."
She leaned back, resting against the back of the sofa, her expression thoughtful.
"If I had this before, my comprehension in learning complex words would have been much easier."
Jeff simply gave a slight nod, hiding the quiet satisfaction in his eyes. After all, who wouldn’t be proud of what they had built?
"Is it okay for me to copy your app?" she asked.
"Sure," Jeff replied, and as he did, the distance between the two of them, sitting on the sofa, seemed to close.
