Living Chapter 10

VICTOR'S POV Avery proved to be a match to reckon with. She had taken down one of my men and was obviously winning the battle. It was too bad that it was for a lost cause. I had the very thing that I could use to toy her around. "I suggest you stop the senseless murder of your people," I demanded after she ripped out the heart of my second henchmen. She turned to face me, her still blue eyes filled with hate. I could tell she wanted to rip my head off my body. She lunged at me and placed her claw-like fingernails to my neck and spat, "Where is he?" Maintaining my composure since I was the one in power, I bluntly told her to behave. "If you want him alive, I suggest you let go of my neck." Another vampire came out of the cabin holding Henry tightly to send warning paced to the pureblood. Avery let go of me but her defenses were still on. I wanted her down and I had done so. The tranquilizer I had forced into her bloodstream began to take effect and she spun around like a drunkard. "You bastard, what did you do to me." She spat now very dizzy. Avery finally fell unconscious to the ground but still managed to mouth a few words. "Why don't you kill me?" She would die but not until the blood moon arrived. "Take her inside," I instructed, still contemplating on what do do with the human boy. He was very instrumental to my success. Without him, I might not have taken Avery down...At least not easily. I had to keep him just to keep Avery in check. "And keep the human boy." The boy stared at me in horror. I had promised to release him once I got Avery but now there was a change of plans. Avery's protector might be coming for her and Henry was just too much of a risk to let out now or ever. I could not wait for Legolas to see the work I had completed for him. I could already see the moon arriving by night and frankly, I couldn't wait. DAMIAN'S POV "Avery!" I sent for the millionth time through the mind link. I just could not get to her. My suspicions that Victor could have used a brew to sever the mindlink became more of reality than just a theory. He had done it before. I cursed myself for not stopping her earlier. I needed help and I was not ready to bang a witch to get it. There was only a place that I could go to for help but the problem was they hated our kind. The faeblood institute. It was hiding in plain sight. To humans, it was like an everyday library but I knew better. I walked in. Examining the rows of books and hoping to catch the sight of the librarian and the person who happened to be the guardian of the gateway. "What do you want?" I felt a cold steel sword press tightly against my back not too far from my heart. One thrust and I would be gone. No one would even bove a fuck, I had to play smart. "I need the help of the faebloods." I honestly answered. The sword only pressed tighter. "And why would we help a bloodsucker?" The voice demanded. "Because it could get you a promotion?" The sword was drawn back and a beautiful woman turned to face me. "How so?" I was too mesmerized in her beauty to even make words. I was very stereotypical about librarians. I always thought they had to be old widowed women but this beauty in front of me was derailing those typical sentiments. She had luscious pink hair toned down by some locks of brown. A natural occurrence for a pureblooded fae blood who descended from a noble line. Her thick eyebrows had been dyed brown to hide the fact that they were pink and to get off unwanted attraction. Her eyes were greyish and looked like a dagger that could kill by the mere look and a rich chestnut skin that glowed in the natural lighting. "Do you talk?" The woman demanded, embarrassed that I kept my mouth agape whilst examining her features. "I...sorry." I tried to say, fighting the urge to lean and kiss her silly. "What the hell is his problem?" Her lips were not moving but I could swear it was her speaking. WTF! Did I just read her mind? It was far too off-grid to bond with faeblood. Khhmm! The woman mumbled to get back my attention, getting frustrated I was looking at her like a dummy. "I have information about Victor." O said when I finally composed myself. "Then welcome." The lady said and motioned me to follow her. The gateway was a secret tunnel that leads to the faebloods institute. Avery, I'm coming. I promised. "What's your name? I asked the resilient pink-haired girl accompanying me to her superiors. We were halfway to what she called the control room. Faebloods shot me looks of disgust each time I passed by. They were looking like bloody racists. "I don't have my name to strangers especially dangerous-looking vampires." "Did you just call me hot?" I had to ask, color flushing my cheeks. The lady stopped walking and turned to face me. "You must really flatter yourself for a vampire." She mocked then began to walk again. I wondered if she could also know what was on my mind. I wanted to know. "Do you know about the vampire bond?" I queried. She didn't answer but her mind did. "For all the good things in the world, all he can think of is sex. Vampires." I got my answer. She didn't share the bond with me so it was one-sided. Bummer! We arrived in a huge room which I could tell was the control room. The walls were made from steel and it made the room almost look like a mirror shop. The pink-haired girl handed me over to one of her superiors after stating why I was here. Before she left, I tried one more time to get her name. "The least you can do is tell me your name." She gave out an exhausted sigh. "Well, it probably the last time we'll meet so... My name is Matilda. And you are?" It was my time to play hard to get "I don't have my name to strangers." "Nice Mr Damian." The girl responded before pondering how she knew my name. A look of dread came on her face and I could tell what her fear was about. She now shared the mind link. KALIM'S POV The scroll said Victor was last seen at a random street which I now threaded on. How was this even a lead? I could check all the houses to examine their owner's faces but even if I knew where Victor resided. I could not just slash him with the saber in my backpack. I was still engrossed in my plight when I heard a ring tone. It was a familiar one. Damn! My father was following me. I walked to the place I heard the sound and I could see him almost escaping from my sight. "Dad! I see you." I yelled, watching his obscure figure on a fence. He got down and walked up to me. "Sorry." He said. I refused to give him the answer he wanted. If he was going to apologize, he had a lot of that to do. "That's all?" I stiffened. My father's shoulders hung in surrender and he said it all. "I'm sorry for hiding the truth from you and I'm sorry I lied." He apologized. I wouldn't have let him go so easily but I was in dire need of his help. "I'll forgive you, father, if you tell me why you did it." It was simple. All I wanted was a confession. My father put his hands in his back pocket and let out a heavy sigh. "I was too scared to lose you after I lost your mother." He burst into tears and I rushed in to hug him. It must have been an emotional train walk for him and frankly, I might have done the same thing if I was on his condition. "It's alright."I cooed, "I forgive you." His phone rang again ruining the family moment. He picked up the phone and I heard, "New lead on the suspect." I knew instantly that they were referring to Victor and I tried to get more of what was happening. "He's in an abandoned cabin in the woods. He held hostage, a boy and a vampire." I knew it was Henry. My father cut the phone and turned to me. I expected him to try to push me from my mad ambition but what came out of his mouth was different and a little too good to be true. "Do you want to join me in taking this bastard down?" It was an offer I would not refuse for the world.
