THIRTY FIVE - NEW TERM
" Happy new year dear students of Berley international high school! " principal Jordan voice echoed throughout the hall
" Happy new year sir! "Students chorused rowdly
The hall was filled up with students standing in an arranged queue, everyone was looking smart as usual, standing in their maroon checkered uniforms and polished black shoes.
The teachers were standing at the podium, together with principal Jordan.each trying to control the students rowdly attitude in the large assembly hall.
"I welcome you all back to another new term of the year.we are glad to have you back, safe and sound and we sincerely thank God for that. A new term and a new year also signifies a new beginning and a new opportunity to face your studies seriously- "
Principal Jordan's speech was alot and needles to say, it was tiring.at some point he made some jokes which only him and the teachers found funny.he had just finished addressing the entire school when he decided to turn his attention towards us- the ss3 students
" SS3 students, I hope you understand that this is the turning point of your senior year in Berley international high school, as you all are aware, the WASSCE/UTME is no longer at the coner but at your doorsteps and as such it is important that you take your studies seriously. Avoid distractions and face your books squarely................................"
Whatever principal Jordan said next was something I wasn't keen on grabbing. I let my mind wander around my environment.i caught a junior girl pinching her fellow at her neck and afterwards pretend to be solely interested in what principal jordan was saying.
The latter who was pinched, clutched her hands at the back of her neck and with a face morphed in anguish, she subtly scanned her back to see who was responsible for that act. Seeing no one pay attention to her, she bit her lips with a frown and faced her front while the culprit laughed discreetly
A small chuckle found it's way to my lips as I watched in amusement. It was clear that they were just being mischevious to themselves and it was kinda funny seeing the duo act that way
" my Lord! I can't believe soon we'll be writing our waec and jamb.." sophie exclaimed dramatically as she wrapped her hands around my neck, calling my attention back to them
Assembly was over and I needed to get back to my prefectship duties before heading to class
"You better believe it sha..it will do you more good "sola replied, walking past us in quite a hurry.
Sophie sneered at her " see this one! Where are you coming from? "
"Your father's house.."she retorted and I chuckled
" sola where are you hurrying to? "I called out.
She gestured a 'later' sign with her fingers before disappearing out of sight.
" where's sandwich? " Sophie asked
"Poof!!!" sandwich popped out suddenly from where she was, startling us both
" oh my gosh!!" I shrieked as she placed her hands on our shoulders and fixed herself in the middle
" where have you been? "Sophie asked and she smiled
"Around"
"What's with all of you and this reply today?"sophie groaned and I laughed
Soon we spotted the guys approaching us. Ayo,priye,and Adam.they all looked fastidiously neat in their new haircut and uniforms.a small smile perked up my lips as soon as i saw dozie walk up with the guys. He looked exceptionally handsome and neat as always, I had already began drooling when I remembered that we weren't even talking to each other yet.
" happy new year girls! "They chorused giving each of us a hug as soon as they drew closer
"same to you " we replied, hugging them back.
" happy new year chin chin "dozie said with his arms wide open infront of me.
"Same to you too" I replied subconsciously with a smile as I flew into his warm embrace, he smelt nice as always.I could literally remain here all the rest of my life
"Did you miss me that much"he said in a low voice that made me freeze literally in my spot.that's right
We are not talking to each other
I immediately pulled back nervously, sandwich glanced at me then back at dozie who wore a lopsided smirk on his lips with his hands in his pocket as he stared back at me.
Talk about the air suddenly getting hot
"Umm..guys..I'm going to get going..I need to ..umm.." I said using my hands to wave air at my face
"Prefect duties baa ?"sandwich cut in and I smiled at her with a nod
" yea..Prefect duties..see you guys soon"I said hurrying out when she pulled me back
"Meera Johnson! "She called abit sternly, I looked at her with a raised eyebrow as she muttered
"New year, new life" I chuckled while rolling my eyes
She just had to tell me that when she realized the what just happened...i kinda told her about the fight anyway and she has been preaching to me to get my act together and talk to him
" sandwich I've heard you.." I retort, turning away when Ayo called behind me
"MJ what of our wife na?" I turned back to him with a knowing smirk then stuck my tongue at him making him let out a loud graon
His wife as he called her was Niniola.. I was happy at least she bonded well with Ago and as much as I would miss her, she had to go back to lagos with aunty dara.. She gat a life too yunno?
"You sef ....get sense " I heard Priye say to Ayo and I chuckled at that
"Happy new year bitch!!" A loud girly voice called at me from behind.
I spurned around to meet a smirking clara.it was new year and as much as I don't understand her actions now, I decided to reply
" same to you" i replied then added with a sweet smile "bitch!" She snorted and rolled her eyes at me in response.
"Meera!! "I heard my name from behind, spurning around just in time to see Osaro running up to me.
" hey Osaro wassup? "
"I've been looking for you everywhere sha..anyway, are you going to be free after school? "
"No.i'll be expensive " I replied flatly and he laughed
"I'm serious na"
"I'm not joking na..though why are you even looking for me"
"We need to plan the last social get together cause this term we'll do our handover so.."
" I get it..can we meet up tomorrow during lunch, today's kinda busy for me " I said and he shrugged
"Cool"
"Alright. See you tomorrow then " I said and he waved at me in reply before sauntering off.

"Wait! So you want to take up visual arts again?"sir Ahmed asked with a bemused expression
"Obviously yes"
"Thought you had to quit it last term?"
"But I'm not quitting again..new year, new life "I deadpan and he chuckled
" new life and new trouble abi? What did your dad say?"
"What's he suppose to say? He obviously won't give it up" I replied with a shrug
Sir Ahmed rubbed his temples with his arms as he sighed deeply "what changed your mind then? "
A small smile formed on my face as i replied "let's just say alot of things "
He titled his head towards me, peering intently at me for a second before speaking up
"There's something you're not telling me.." he said and I laughed
"Something like what?"
"Never mind..you know I'm still going to let you take up the course again afterall you're my best student " he said and I grinned widely
"For real?!"
"Yes..for fake!"he retort making me laugh again
"But dozie.." he called "I hope you're not doing it to spite your dad the more ?"
I bit my lips gently, we were currently in the visual arts studio and I was more like helping him clean off the place and set up the canvas in their rightful position
" i hope it doesn't seem like it " I said He paused cleaning, facing his gaze at me
" what do you mean?"he asked carefully and I shrugged
" i mean it isn't right trying to live our lives just to please others besides whatever the case may be, I'm not doing this to get into a fight with him..I just hope he can also understand me too " I said, sir ahmed patted my shoulders gently in understanding. just then the bell rang signifying the first period was over
"You should get going now..later you can come sign up your name"he said and I nodded in reply before jogging off to class
The class was abit noisy by the time I got there. since it was just a new term, teachers barely showed up on the first day.I settled down on my seat and felt someone poke me from behind
" what's doing you?"I asked the Adam who had a headset on his ear with his books in front of him
There wasn't any music playing in the headset.I knew that because that was how Adam read..usually with a headset over his ear
"Guy were did you disappear too?"
"Visual arts studio.wassup?"I asked
" clara was looking for you sha.." he replied and I hissed
" am I with her kidney?" He laughed heartily
"You're not well. So you have meera's kidney nau?" He asked and I smirked
"More like her heart" my eyes trailed to the door and speaking of meera, she was walking slowly yet with graceful strides.smiling widely at greeted her and feigning a frown at some others. Her actions were subconsciously making me smile
" she sha has your mumu button...see how you're smiling like one lost cause"Adam teased
" Ode " I retort which only made him laugh. Meera drew closer, pulling her chair out as she sat beside me.
She made sure to turn her face sideways as she brought out her books and without another word she walked out of the class.
I groaned in disappointment, how long was she going to keep ignoring me. I looked at adam and he had his attention glued to the book infront of him, I got up abruptly making him raise his head at me
" are you going after her?" He asked and i shrugged
" definitely"
"Awww " Annette said in a singsong voice. I didn't even realize she was standing close to Adam until I turned my head to her direction. I shook my head at her and dashed out of the class.

The music hall was abit crowded with the SS2 students so there was no way she could have gone there.I walked further before halting infront of the library.
There she was, with her books spread out infront of her and her eyelash puckered in concentration, she raised her slender fingers to the tip of the book and gently turned the pages, sending a pleasant feeling happily tugging it's way at my heart.
Funny, how every of her actions had an effect on me.
A small smirk formed itself on my lips and soon I found myself walking up to her.she raised her face towards me, her eyes sparkled with excitement and at the same time she had a suprised expression.
Her glossy pink lips were threatening to form into a small smile while she bit it gently in a bid to stop herself from smiling
"You should stop staring at me like that"she said in a low whisper and I let out a chuckle
"And you should smile if you want to" I replied
She raised her eyebrows at me "what are you feeling like na?"
" your boyfriend! " I retort making her let out a small hiss while she tried suppressing her smile
"No offence but didn't know you read"
She eyed me warily as she scoffed "I'm not dumb.you he-goat "
"Yea. I know " I said with a loud chuckle and she glared at me again giving me a warning look to keep quiet
"You do know that here is the library huh?"
" whatever...I came to look for my chin chin "
" your chin chin?"
" yup...did you see her?"
" sorry but snacks are meant to be in the cafeteria.." she sassed
I smirked mischeviously "but she's in the library "
She scoffed "really..I don't see her anywhere"
I took her pen, writing something behind her notebook before returning my attention to her again
" can you do a favor for me? "
"No!" She replied flatly
"I wasn't asking anyway.." I said with a smirk
swiftly switching the notes infront of her, i took the other two books with me, leaving only the notebook with her.
" give me my book Dozie" she demanded with her puppy face expression
" not until you tell her to meet me in that address I gave to you"I smirked
" stop nau..I don't even know who she is" she said this time she was pouting
I doubled up in laughter. Was she seriously doing this with me right now?
"She's right here yunno.." i said biting my lips softly. she huffed in exasperation, taking the remaining notebook with her and flipping it through the back
" you want her to come all the way to your house?!" She shrieked. This time a handful of people snapped their attention towards us with a shush
Meera rolled her eyes at them and gave them the middle finger.they glared at her and faced their business back to their books. I covered my mouth to stop myself from laughing so hard
She always knew how to make a person smile so effortlessly
"So deal?"I asked and she sneered at me, giving me a stink eye
"Fine.deal!"
" thanks for your kind co operation" I smiled in satisfaction as she huffed out aloud
"Demon!"
" yes my Angel..see you soon" I retort with a smirk making her groan
