The bell rang and she can see the sparkle on her student's eyes, some are grinning from ear to ear, and some wasn't able to help themselves and shouted "Yes". She just shake her head and smiled before saying her students' favorite line.
"Okay class you are now dismissed. See you tomorrow", she said while her students seems on panic keeping their things to prepare to go out of the classroom.
She had a very long day today. Well, every day is a long day at school. Being a teacher is not easy yet teachers are less appreciated, has a very low pay, and job is exhausting. It is never easy to deal with students who has different kinds of behavior. Yet she loves her job.
She was massaging her own back while checking her emails. Her eyes widen when she saw the email coming from the school that she was applying for. An English learning school in Madrid, Spain. It was really unexpected. She was caught off guard and so much overwhelmed with the very good news that she just received.
She can't help but shout. "Oh my God!!!" she screamed at the top of her lungs while jumping.
Her co-teacher Kim was running towards her classroom with a very worried face and almost stumble.
"Emily? Emily, what is the matter? Are you alright?" she was gasping for air as she reached her.
"Kimmy, I got it. I got the job!" She immediately hugged Kim.
"Which one? The job in Madrid that you're applying for as an English teacher?" Kim asked.
"Yes Kimmy." Emily replied.
Kim's eyes widened seemed very shocked and a smile crept on her face afterwards.
"Oh my goodness! I'm so happy for you Emi. I know you have been waiting for this great opportunity." Kim said.
"Yeah, you're right Kimmy. I'm just so happy this is going to be a big help for my family." Emily said smiling but teary eyed at the same time.
She went home while hopping like a very happy rabbit. Her younger brother Emerson looked at her like she is some kind of an alien. Eric as the one who has his own world doesn't notice and continued what he was doing. Emmanuel as usual was so focused on his books and Elazar was busy with his toys.
"Hi, boys. Where's Mom?" She asked with a singsong voice.
"In the kitchen, preparing dinner. What is wrong with you big Sis? You look really weird." Emerson asked without blinking.
"I'll tell later over dinner." She said mysteriously.
"Tsk. This family is full of weird people." Eric utter while his full attention is still on the device that he's inventing.
Emily just shook her head while smiling. Saying on her mind, 'coming from someone who's so normal.'
She head on her way upstairs to her room. Clean herself and change her clothes. The moment she went downstairs and head her way to the kitchen everyone was at the table ready to eat and just waiting for her.
"Hi, guys." She said with glee.
"Oh someone's happy." Her dad said.
"Big sis, sit now so we could pray and eat. I'm starving." Impatient Elazar said.
"I guess she had a good news, am I right Emily?" Her mom really knows her so well.
"You guessed it right, mom?"
She sat and they started praying. Afterwards, they started eating.
"Spill it out, honey." Her mom said when all of them are done eating.
She took a deep breath and look each and every one of them. From her dad, to her mom, Emerson, Eric, Emmanuel and little Elazar.
"Mom, dad, I got hired as an English teacher in Spain!" she said.
A moment of silence spread all over the kitchen. Everyone was seemed in shock. Of course, because nobody knows about her application for the said country. He never told his family about it even her colleagues and superiors in the private school where she teaches. Only Kim, her colleague and close friend was the only person who knows about it.
Her contract form the school where she currently teaches will soon expire next week. It is really a perfect timing that she was hired on the said school in Spain. The school named El Excellente Ingles which is located in Spain will shoulder all of her expenses and it is a 2 year contract where she will teach Spanish students to speak English. The salary is good and almost triple from her pay of the current school where she teaches.
"What are you talking about Emily?" her dad asks seems confuse.
"Dad, my contract in the school will expire next month. So I tried to apply and look for you know a bigger opportunity a greener pasture of course for us." She was a bit nervous looking at her father.
Knowing him and that kind of tone that he use while saying those words also the look on his face, Emily knows that he is not happy. She knew her father, he doesn't want secrets and she kept this application of her a secret.
"Without telling us, dear?" her mom second the motion seems upset as well.
"Spain is very far, baby. Who will take care of you there? You'll live by yourself. What if you get tired, who will give you a massage?" she added.
"Yeah, I'm not there to give a 24 hour massage." Emmanuel added who is the one that she always asked to give her a massage every time she has a back pain.
"Mom, dad, boys, please. I need this, we need this. My pay there is triple times the pay here." She said softly while giving them begging look with puppy eyes.
Her dad took a deep breath before speaking.
"Fine. I don't want you to miss an opportunity honey. Great opportunity comes just once in a blue moon. We never know. So I agree, you have my blessing princess." Her dad said which makes her eyes glow.
"Mom?" she asked nervously what her mother's decision will be.
"I agree with your father and I don't want to be the one to blame if you missed a great opportunity and won't be given another once again." She jokingly said.
"Woah! Thank you so much mom and dad." She said. The family then had a big hug. Emily had a good night sleep that night with a smile on her face while her eyes are shut.
