As Sabrina sat down to tell Kenneth that she wanted a divorce, she could feel her heart pounding in her chest. She knew it wasn't going to be easy, but she also knew that it was the right thing to do. Kenneth, on the other hand, had a different reaction than she expected.
"What do you mean, divorce?" he said, his tone sharp.
Sabrina took a deep breath before responding. "I mean that I can't do this anymore, Kenneth. We've been unhappy for a long time, and I think it's time we moved on."
Kenneth's expression turned cold. "And what about my inheritance? You know that divorce is forbidden in my family. If I go through with this, I'll lose everything!"
Sabrina felt a sense of frustration and anger building inside of her. "Kenneth, that's not my problem. We need to do what's best for ourselves, and if that means going through with a divorce, then so be it."
Kenneth stood up, his fists clenched. "You don't understand, Sabrina. This is my family's legacy. I can't just throw it away because you're unhappy."
Sabrina stood up as well, feeling a sense of defiance rising within her. "I'm sorry, Kenneth. I can't just stay in a marriage because of my family's legacy. I need to do what's best for me. Besides, you seem to be happier with Isabelle, so why don’t you take her as your wife then?”
They stood there for a moment, facing each other with a sense of tension and anger. Eventually, Kenneth's expression softened, and he spoke in a quieter tone. "I don't want to lose you, Sabrina. But I also don't want to lose my family's legacy."
Sabrina sighed, feeling a sense of resignation. "I understand, Kenneth. But we need to do what's best for us, even if it means making difficult choices. See you in court!”
“Sabrina, wait!” he called to stop her from leaving. Fortunately, he was fast enough to grab her hand. “Let’s talk about this,” he asked.
Sabrina studied Kenneth’s expression before nodding,” Alright. Let’s meet later at the coffee shop two blocks from here.”
“Not later, Sabrina. We need to talk right now…in my office.”
“Okay,” she agreed. After all, they needed to discuss everything before going to court.
As Sabrina followed Kenneth into his private office to discuss their divorce, she could feel her heart pounding in her chest. She knew it was going to be a difficult conversation, but she also knew that it was necessary to move on from their failing marriage.
Once they were seated, Kenneth started to speak. "Sabrina, I understand that you want a divorce, and I respect your decision. But I want to make sure that we handle this in a way that's fair for both of us."
Sabrina nodded, feeling a sense of apprehension. "What do you mean?"
Kenneth hesitated for a moment before continuing. "I'm willing to offer you more money. I know it's not everything, but it's a start.”
Sabrina felt a sense of anger building inside of her. "Kenneth, I don't want your money. I just want to move on from this marriage. Living with you for three years has been pure hell. Your family is wicked and cruel to me!”
Kenneth looked at her with a sense of confusion. "But Sabrina, money can solve a lot of problems. It can make things easier for you and your future children. Why wouldn't you want that?"
Sabrina stood up, feeling a sense of indignation. "I don't want your money, Kenneth. I want to live my life on my own terms, without being tied to you or your wealth."
Kenneth stood up as well, looking at her with a sense of frustration. "Sabrina, you can't just walk away from this marriage without any consideration for our future. Think about the financial security that my money can provide for all of us."
Sabrina shook her head, feeling a sense of determination. "I don't need your money, Kenneth. I just want to move on and start a new life. I won't let your wealth dictate my future."
Kenneth looked at her for a moment before nodding slowly. "I understand, Sabrina. I just want to make sure you're taken care of. But I'll respect your decision."
As Sabrina walked out of Kenneth's office, she felt a sense of relief and liberation. She knew that the road ahead would be difficult, but she also knew that she had the strength to move on and create a new life for herself and her children, without being tied to her ex-husband's wealth.
“Wait a minute,” Kenneth called again.
Sabrina took a deep breath before facing him again. “What is it, Kenneth? Aren’t we done talking? All you have to do is sign the papers and appear in court,” she told him.
“How much? Tell me how much you need just to remain as my wife until the inheritance will be transferred to my account,” he offered.
As Kenneth offered Sabrina a large sum of money to keep quiet about their misunderstandings and remain as his wife until the entire inheritance was transferred to his name, Sabrina was taken aback. She had not expected Kenneth to make such a proposal, and she didn't know how to respond. After a moment of silence, Sabrina spoke up.
"Kenneth, I can't accept your offer. I've made up my mind about the divorce, and I can't just stay with you for the sake of your inheritance."
Kenneth looked at her with a sense of disappointment. "Sabrina, please. I know we've had our issues, but you are the only person who can help me with this.”
Sabrina shook her head and said, “Then, you should have treated me better in that household. Goodbye, Kenneth. See you in court.”
“Can we talk again? For the last time?”
Sabrina knew he would try to convince her again about not proceeding with the divorce. Instead of shaking her head, she decided to meet with him again. “Let’s meet tonight,” she said and told him about the address where she would wait for him.
