*Jiya Pov*
“God! Save me.” I shouted, holding my head.
“Don’t shout, Jiya.” He said, groaning beside me.
“This is all because of you.” I said hitting his shoulder.
“How is it my fault?” he asked, holding his head.
“Who asked you to buy me ice cream at lunch and then at a movie theatre and then at the park and then at the dinner? And to top off that we stayed under the fake rain.” I replied sniffing.
“Well, you made me eat that while you are doing the same, so the blame doesn’t go only on me. We just got flu, so deal with it.” He said, and I closed my eyes with a feel to knock his head with mine.
“Let’s drink some milk and take some tablet.” I said getting down.
“I am feeling dizzy.” I said, holding the bed.
“Let’s go together.” He said getting down and we both walked inside the kitchen, stumbling but held each other for support.
“A little better, but it is not enough.” I said and sneezed after some time.
“We can’t go to the office with this otherwise they all will get sick.” He said and started calling the receptionist.
“But then what about the meetings?” I asked him frowning.
“We lost them and if they really want to deal with us, then they will come again. If not, then it’s their loss.” He replied.
“This is all because of you.” I said, plopping on the couch.
“Yeah, yeah! I am the one who did everything.” He said, plopping beside me and we both sneezed.
“We need something to eat.” I said, but not have the interest to eat anything.
“I will bring some bread or something after some time.” He mumbled and closed his eyes leaning back.
“Yeah, ok.” I mumbled, closing my eyes myself and we both drifted off into sleep on the couch itself.
“Wake up!” I felt him shaking and looked up to see him, placing the bread slices in front of me.
“When did you go outside?” I asked him frowning.
“I didn’t! I didn’t have any energy to go so I asked the helper to help us with this situation.” He replied, and we both started eating them.
“I can’t breath properly.” I said, trying to breath through my nose.
“Even mine are blocked.” He said and pressed his hand on my forehead.
“You have a fever.” He said and then started searching for a thermometer.
Finally, it seems I have a fever, and I made him check too. He too got a fever. What an amazing situation?
I walked inside the kitchen and put some water in the fridge to get cold. After some time, we both lay on the bed and put cold cloths on each other foreheads helping each other.
“We make a great team.” He mumbled, closing his eyes.
“Yeah! This is such a funny situation.” I said chuckling.
“Should we go and check up with the doctor?” he asked worriedly.
“I don’t think so! It is not that high fever. We will get down from it today but for cold, it will take a few days.” I replied, and he nodded.
Like we thought, by the night time, we both didn’t have any fever, but just had the feeling of feverish.
“What shall we do? I am bored.” I said looking at him.
“Let’s play some board game.” He suggested and we started playing, but changed the game for every hour feeling bored.
“This is such a nonsense.” I said, groaning and leaned back.
“We will do one thing.” He suddenly said.
“What?” I asked him.
“We will buy ice creams again and eat them.” He replied, and I hit his shoulder glaring at him.
“Let’s just sleep.” I said and we both slept.
“It’s been two days, but still my nose is blocked.” He said complainingly.
“As if my nose is not.” I said rolling my eyes.
“We will do something.” I added and started boiling the water.
I brought it carefully and put it on the floor. He looked at it in shock and shook his head.
“Why?” I asked him frowning.
“When I was a kid, I kind of got my nose into the water and burned it. And from that time I never did this again.” He replied.
“Then it is a good thing that you are not a kid anymore.” I said and made him sit in front of me with the bowl between us.
I covered both of us in the blanket and put a lump of Vicks in the boiling water. We both started taking deep breaths, and he still stayed little back making the blanket lift up to put away the steam.
“You are such a kid.” I mumbled and stood up from my place.
Then I sat beside him and held his shoulders with my arms. This time I made him bend along with me, and finally it worked a little.
“We will do this for a few days, and then we will see.” I said after the steam became ineffective.
After a few days, the cold went away, and we spend so much time just talking about silly things and watching silly things on the television.
We even talked how we spent our college days and the friends we made and even about our crushes.
“We can go to the office tomorrow.” He said when we lay down to sleep with clear breathing and no weakness.
“Yeah! But what if they talk something about our absence at a time.” I said frowning.
“When did, Mrs.Mehra started thinking what others will think?” He asked shocked.
“I don’t know! But I started thinking about others recently.” I replied shrugging.
“I am the boss and if someone tries to say anything rubbish I will see to their end.” He said putting his hand around my waist protectively.
“What if there was no need for you to meet me when you did?” I suddenly asked him.
“What?” he asked me confused.
“What if you never met me at all? I mean there was no need to meet me at all.” I explained.
“Then it would have been a loss for me.” He said shrugging.
“How?” I asked him frowning.
“Well, you would have met some amazing guy, but I would have not got a chance to meet this amazing girl.” He replied smiling and kissed my forehead.
“Hmm...” I said, shaking my head and we both drifted off into sleep.
“Don’t worry Jiya.” He said for the tenth time after we started driving to the office.
“I don’t know what will they think.” I said, feeling nervous after a long time.
“I wish I can tell them that you are my wife, but I know you will not like it. Just ignore them.” He adviced and we both got outside.
Everyone was actually worried for us, and no one gave any bad comment at all. I smiled at all of them feeling good. We were just about to walk inside, but Lily stopped him and gave one Lily to him.
I thought he would scold her or something, but he smiled and took it. I frowned, confused by his behavior, but shrugged and got inside the elevator with him.
“What happened?” he asked, looking at me.
“Nothing! Just dreading about the work we have to do to cover the absence.” I replied, and he nodded not asking more.
Like I thought there was so much work, we kind of finished most of it on the same day. I talked with my colleagues more feeling good about them.
“So how are you feeling now?” he asked when we returned.
“I was completely surprised by their behavior. I never thought they all would be so sweet.” I replied still not believing it.
“See the power of your smile Jiya.” He said, winking and went inside the washroom to freshen up.
I sat on the bed, frowning and waited for him. When he did, I stare at him, even after he laid down beside me.
“What?” he asked, frowning.
“Does my smile really, has power?” I asked him frowning.
“Yes!” he replied confidently.
I gave him ten different kinds of smiles, and he laughed at me. I frowned and laid back showing my back.
“The smile you give from your heart, and eyes is the powerful one.” He mumbled kissing my cheek, and I smiled nodding.
“Now go to sleep.” He said and I did, but faintly to hear his words.
Which he did after a few minutes, and then I drifted off into sleep along with him. Just two months and three weeks. Time really runs fast…
