Rosie’s and Caspian’s trip back to the mansion was uneventful, and soon the high gates were in view, gates that were quickly opened to let them in.
Caspian had gotten over the reason Rosie had to show up at the club, getting out of the car with an easy smile. "Patty is going to be so happy to see you, are you sure you can’t stay for lunch?"
Rosie was really tempted, Caspian was really good at convincing, especially when he smiled so beautifully. But she had to return to the company, even though there was little to do, her presence was important.
"I could come over during the weekends for lunch if you’ll have me," She found herself saying, unable to turn Caspian down outright.
"We could have a picnic," Caspian was quick with one of his ideas that tended to spiral out of control. "I’ll invite Patty and Lak..." He trailed off, the smile on his face dimming.
Rosie winced, feeling really bad. "We can still have a picnic if you want," She offered generously.
Caspian recovered quickly, getting to the top of the stairs first. "It’s probably best we don’t, we can just have a simple lunch."
Rosie didn’t push, although Caspian was bubbly and gorgeous, she was starting to realize that he depended on Lake more than Lake did on him.
At her first impression of him, she had thought that someone so beautiful and influential would have a lot of friends but getting to know him showed her that despite his glamorous exterior, he was a softie on the inside.

So it was easier to leave then with promises to hang out on the weekend. Rosie stepped out of the mansion to find Jael leaning against the car, looking to have been waiting for her.
"Were you waiting long?" She asked as she headed to the passenger’s side.
Jael was already in the driver’s seat, so he answered after she got in. "Not really, I was sure Caspian would get you."
Rosie’s laughter was soft, "He really wanted me to stay for lunch."
"Good thing you didn’t fall for that, he already packed you lunch, it’s at the company."
Jael saying that made Rosie want to stay even more. Patty’s job must be real cozy to spend the day chatting with Caspian and getting pampered by him.
Rosie glanced over to Jael, "Why didn’t you come over if you were around?"
Jael didn’t take his eyes off the road, "If you think I could have helped you with Caspian, you’re wrong. One word from him and I would have caved in."
Rosie smiled but didn’t say anything further, buckling up for the ride. Literally, she had been a witness to how Jael drove that morning and she knew she would be needing the seat belt.
She also knew why Jael had stayed away, Patty could better hide her emotions around him now but she still became jumpy and reserved whenever he showed up.
Rosie had stopped trying to get her friend to confess how she felt after Patty practically told her point blank that she was content to be in love from a distance. Besides, Jael was still grieving, it was probably the best for the two of them.
Back at the company, things were still as quiet as they had left it but Rosie still went to her office to do a brief check to make sure everything was still in order. And that there were no new urgent calls or important emails.
Jael kept her company like he could predict what the outcome would be, a knowing look on his face when she looked up at him. "Should I put a show on?" He asked without expecting an answer, already turning around to leave.
The sound of Rosie’s heels behind him was expected, and although he had offered to put a show on, he doubted he had even remembered to turn the TV off. They had left in so much of a hurry that he had forgotten his holsters behind, the TV was definitely still on.
Nikolai had only his thoughts for company as Angelo slept, his thoughts and the constant burning under his skin.
Out of context, being able to make Angelo fall asleep so easily was a big deal. He was confident about his self control but the assassin in his arms tested his limits at every turn.

Angelo didn’t stay asleep for long, his body practically waking him up. Long before he started to rouse. Nikolai could already feel the heat blooming across his skin.
