Chapter Thirty — One
Michael POV
I woke up with a jerk. I thought I heard something. Slowly, I opened my eyes and looked around.
Nothing.
Linda was still lying between James and me, her arm draped over my stomach while she laid, almost on top of me. James was hugging her from behind. And from all the things I could feel, I felt at ease.
My whole being been calm and my mind did not wander around or feel heavy with random stuff, like it usually did. I knew I had to get up and start working but a look at Linda and her sleeping form, made me change my mind.
For a few minutes.
Just a few minutes.
I promised myself. I adjusted a little. Linda sighed and adjusted before settling down on me again. I reached out and stroked her hair.
She was as beautiful as the bright sun outside. She was really one of the most beautiful people in the world.
So innocent.
So pure.
Her pale face looked too peaceful. And just remembering the fact that she was naked beneath the sheets made me want to turn her over and have my way with her.
Events from last night flashed before my eyes, and it was like someone had thrown an ice bucket on me. Suddenly my mind filled with all sorts of questions.
How could she kill someone? And especially ten of them? Janet was a crazy bitch. Her lust for James could make her do anything. James was Linda's mate, and it created an unwanted obstacle, in her way, to get to him. It was pretty obvious why she wanted to blame Linda for everything. I had to teach her a lesson. After all, she had humiliated Linda enough. And after everything she did to Linda, that was still not enough for her.
That vixen.
Determination crossed my face and blood rushed into my veins. Inside me, my wolf jerked awake. We will do it. We both wanted revenge from our mate and whatever she went through.
Linda was our mate. Therefore, she deserved as much respect as we did. From all of our pack members.
Once we had made an example of Janet, everyone else will fall in line. They all will know what sort of consequences they had to face if they ever crossed her.
“Good idea. I'm in.” I heard in my brain. My eyes shot to James who was staring at me with a grin from ear to ear.
“How did you even hear what I was thinking? We were not even connected through mind link.” I asked him. Feeling dumb and regretting instantly. He gave me a wink.
“We are twins, remember? I know what is going through your brain just by the looks of your face. And your thoughts were too loud. Anyone could have heard it.” James told me, smirking. I returned his smirk.
“So, you are in?” I asked him. Already knowing the answer.
“Hell yeah.” James replied. His eyes twinkled, moving to Linda, and he lightly traced her spine with the back of his hand. Linda stirred and her eyes fluttered open. Her eyes found mine and I saw a faint blush tainted her cheeks. I stroked her cheeks. She lowered her eyes, loving my touch and yet feeling shy.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw James bowing his head and kissing Linda's spine. A shiver ran through her body, igniting not only hers but my needs as well. She clenched her eyes shut and opened them back again. All the haziness and lust vanished from her face. Sitting up, she slid off the bed with the bedsheet still clutching to her. She looked around the room and cleared her throat.
“I need to bathe. I will feel fresh after I've taken one.” She told us before looking back to our face. Her cheeks were still blushing. I saw James raking his eyes slowly up and down on her body. Making sure that she noticed what he was thinking.
“Maybe we could help you with that.” He said. His voice was a mixture of husky and throaty voice. Probably from lust and sleepiness.
I liked the suggestion, though. It would not hurt to get a taste of her while my hands glided over her body, feeling her warmth against mine. I actually quite loved the idea.
Linda looked as if she was going to agree with him. She opened her mouth and I could feel a 'Yes' coming out of her mouth but what came out of her mouth, made me completely disappointed.
“No. Uh... I would... Ugh... I need to clear my mind. Yesterday was hectic. And I need to get my mind straight. So I am going to take the shower alone.” She said before she spun around and disappeared into the bathroom with sheets sliding right behind her. She closed the door and after a few moments later, I heard the shower turning on.
I groaned.
Her mention of yesterday's night soured my mood. Especially after, I remembered that Dad had asked us to dig into Linda's background and get as much as information we could. I lowered my voice and whispered to James. Even though I knew Linda could not hear me over the sound of water.
“We had to get information about Linda's whereabouts, as well. Right after, being done with Janet, we are going to look into that matter.” I told James. James sighed. He rubbed his face, looking exhausted even though he just woke up.
“Yeah. Can't ignore Alpha's order directly.” He said, forcing the word Alpha in a sarcastic tone.
“Just make sure Linda does not find out about it.” He told me. Annoyance shot through me. Did he think I'm an idiot? He turned to me.
“Do you think that we should bring Linda to show, what are we going to do with Janet?” He asked me.
For a second, I thought that it was a bad idea because I did not know if Linda will like it or not but after some pondering, I realized it's not a bad suggestion.
Not only, Linda will get justice in front of everyone but the act will also present itself as an opportunity, for our pack members to see their future Luna in a strong role. Someone who does not tolerate any bullshit from people. It will also make them understand, the clear consequences of disrespecting their future Luna but also going to teach them to remain on the good side of Linda.
“Alright. We will bring Linda with us. She could get to know people in our pack.” I told him. James hummed in agreement and I started to think where I imagined Linda to be crowned as a Luna. But the one main question still remained.
Who will be crowned as an Alpha? The one to rule beside her?
James and I left Linda to shower alone while we made our way to our own room. I decided to not think about anything and get ready for whatever was going to happen. I showered, dried my hair and pulled fresh clothes on. When I finished, I made my way back to Linda's room.
I knocked at the door once and pushed the door open. Linda was wearing fresh clothes and her hair looked slightly wet.
James appeared at my side. Walking towards her, we both took each of her hands.
“What is going on?” She asked us, looking confused.
“That's a secret.” James whispered. Then all three of us walked out of the room, and moved to our destination.
