Chapter Twenty — Two
Michael's POV
This is the day that I had been waiting for so long. I had dreamed about it. Wanted it from my soul. And finally, I had it.
Me, Linda and... James.
It happened between all three of us.
Moon goddess had given us her blessings.
We had mated.
My wolf got what it always wanted.
I got what I wanted.
Everyone in our pack was now the witness of our bond now.
Everything went the way it should. Except for the time when Linda fainted. I had not expected her to faint after our most precious time. That would define her future. Our future. However, maybe this was too much for her. Especially after the way she drugged.
I beckoned one of the servants. She came towards us with her head bowed and a robe in her arm. Handing it to me, she retreated back, disappearing into the crowd. Now that everything was done, it was time for us to go back to our home. Our home.
I picked up Linda in my arms and stood up, tall in front of the crowd with James beside her.
Whole crowd of our pack knelt down to one knee, and we made our way back to our house navigating through the crowd. I was still naked and so was James. But that did not bother me. And I knew it also did not bother James. We were used to the nakedness and so was our pack. We are wild. That is how we lived in real life. We were used to letting the wind graze our furs freely.
We walked inside our house and I placed Linda on her bed. She looked beautiful. Vibrant, beautiful and so much alive than any of us. I could look at her all the time and would never get bored. And that’s what I did for some time. I stood there and stared at her face. Messy hair, slumped figure, closed eyes and her calmed breaths. She looked like the wonder of this world.
Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw James moving. When I tore my eyes away from Linda and turned to him, I saw him pick a wardrobe from a chair that was placed in the corner of the room.
Probably, dad's work. He must have told someone to do us the favor. Otherwise, we would walk around buck — naked without bothering to cover ourselves up. Like we did not have a care in the world.
I would have laughed at his thinking if I didn't know that it was true. Also, our love session had me a little weighed down. Especially when it happened in such circumstances.
So I followed James' move and shrugged on the wardrobe that was left for me.
A knock sounded on the door. James and I both of us spun around to the voice. It was Adan. He nodded his head for us to come outside.
Both of us moved out of the room, leaving Linda behind and shut the door behind us. Along with Adan, dad also stood there. He was stiff as always but for once he seemed tense. And that meant there was bad news coming. Which was the last thing I wanted from him. This night was as heavy as it could get.
I also saw Dr. Moore coming towards us from the right side of the hallway. I did not see Dad, Adan or Dr. Moore in our pack members who witnessed us mating. Dr. Moore stared at dad who gave him a nod, after which Dr. Moore disappeared inside the room. I wanted to stop him but Dad's voice stopped me.
“No. Let him check if that drug is out of her system or not.” He said. I clenched my hands in a fist and then opened them. Forcing myself to relax. I nodded my head in acknowledgement.
“So what are we here for?” James asked in an agitated voice. I could not blame him for it.
To be frank, if I opened my mouth and said something, most properly I would sound the same. Both of us just wanted to go back to Linda and spend our rest of the time of this night with her. But I knew that father knew that as well, and we would not have disturbed us without a real reason. So this matter must be important.
Adan cleared his throat and looked at us. Ready to give us the bad news.
“We lost the track of that guy. His smell was faint when I walked inside the room, but it was still there. However, just in the middle of the forest that smell disappeared. No trace of anyone anywhere.” He said. A strain of curses rang out from me and James. I clenched my teeth. This was the news that I was dreading to hear. What do we do now? How will I track that bastard? A vein in my temple flared.
“What about the guests and the party? Maybe it was one of them? Blended in the smells?” James asked. I shook my head at his stupidity. Adan had just said that he traced the smell leading into the woods. Dad grumbled.
“No. Not one of the guests. And the party was already over when I found out about your mate's condition. I already sent them off on their way.” He told us.
“Also, we had strong security. So how could a random person get in?” James asked.
“So it must be one of our guests or someone must have let one in, thinking of them as a guest. Or it is also possible that someone slipped through the security? But how? I had placed many men of our pack throughout the forest and not just on borders. Hidden and in sight. Keeping an eye on everyone and everything around them.” I said.
“Or could it be a hunter?” James suggested. The possibility of it, struck me to another level. It was so possible. After all, we had just lost Phillip. Killed with silver.
Dad shook his head.
“What should we focus on is the reason that person broke into the house. To drug your mate. Especially a drug that increases sexual desire in someone.” Dad said.
“To rape her?” The question slipped through my mouth unintentionally. It was also a possibility.
“But why would someone risk their lives to enter one of the strongest pack and rape Linda?” James asked. Damn! There were so many possibilities. And all of them seemed possible to a certain degree. I rubbed my face with my hands and huffed out a heavy breath.
From behind us the door opened and Dr. Moore walked out. He gave my dad a nod and turned to us.
“The drug is out of her system completely. You can go and stay with her now.” He told us. James rolled his shoulders. Clearly feeling just as tense as I was feeling.
Dad rubbed his neck. That's when I noticed that he looked exhausted and tired. Tonight had taken its toll on everyone. Including him. Which was saying something because he had taken care of days, worse than this.
“Go inside and rest with your mate. She needs you. We will sort this out in the morning.” He told us. We did what he told us to do. We both entered the room and laid with Linda. Embracing her.
We will sort this out in the morning.
We would have to.
I will make sure of it.
And when we would, I swear that will become the worst day of his life.
And also the last day that guy would ever live.
