Holly and Lilly went to the starting spot and as soon at Davis said go, Holly and Lilly grabbed their eggs and spoons.
Lilly put the spoon in her mouth, placed the egg on it and took off in her chair. Holly went after trying to pass her. Lilly saw her out of the corner of her eye and shoved Holly, making her fall and break her egg. Lilly wheeled past to the finishing line.
“Winner! Lilly Evans. Good luck next time Holly.” Davis laughed.
Holly laughed “Oh, that’s how it is? She cheated.”
Davis started cracking up. “I never said there were any rules.”
Holly huffed with a smirk. “That’s it. No more Miss nice girl. Wheels is going down..”
Holly and Lilly went face to face and Holly leaned over to her with their noses almost touching, trying to keep a straight face.
“Goth Barbie. You look a little scared. Wanna give up?” Lilly taunted.
“Never Wheels. Game on.”
“Okay, Jenna. Let’s see what the next game is....” Davis rolled his eyes. “Who put this one in? Barrel of Monkeys?”
Holly lost her game face and started laughing. “What?”
Lilly shook her head. “Come on, Davis. Give us a challenge.”
Davis agreed. “Okay, let’s try another draw… this is a good one. Pie-eating contest.”
Jenna brought over several pies.
Holly raised her hands in pre-victory. “I know I’ll win. Lilly hates cherry pie and there was no more pie left on the buffet line.” She stuck her tongue out at Lilly.
Lilly grimaced. “Gross. Cherry? I don’t care. I’ll still beat you.”
They went to the picnic tables and Lilly looked up at Wraith. He knew how much she really hated cherries and their texture. She already looked like she was going to gag. Holly winked at Cyrus, who was looking a little ill.
Colt looked over at Cyrus and saw his sick look. “Did you eat all those pies?”
Cyrus turned and ran across the yard to the tree line getting sick. Davis shook his head. He knew Cyrus was competitive and probably tried to cheat by stuffing the fishbowl with ballots.
Davis raised his hand. “Okay. Holly and Lilly? On your marks. Get set. GO!”
Holly started devouring the pies. A couple of bites in, Lilly gave up. She couldn’t handle it. Especially after seeing Cyrus get sick.
“Winner Holly!”
“One more game, Wheels. All or nothing.”
Lilly had placed a pie on her lap and pushed her chair close to the table. She motioned with her finger for Holly to get closer, pretending she wanted to say something. As soon as Holly leaned down, Lilly smacked her in the face with the pie. Everyone started laughing and Holly licked the cherry filling from her face.
“Needs more sugar.” Holly giggled.
Wraith was loving it. Seeing his wife have so much fun made his heart feel so full of joy.
“Okay, everyone. Settle down. We have one more game. Let’s see what’s next…” Davis checked the paper slip. “Really, Jenna?” He shook his head. “Rock. Paper. Scissors?”
Holly wiped her face. “Got it in the bag.”
Lilly gave a smug look. “Wanna place a bet on it? Let’s raise the stakes.”
Holly nodded. “I love a bet.”
“One grand.”
Holly narrowed her eyes at Lilly. “Five.”
“Ten.” Lilly crossed her arms over her chest.
“Deal.” Holly reached out her hand to shake Lilly’s. The other behind her back was still messy with cherry filling. She gripped Lilly’s hand and smeared the goo all over her sister-in-law’s face.
Slade who was close to the buffet table grabbed a handful of food. “FOOD FIGHT!”
Within seconds everyone ran to the picnic tables and buffet throwing food. Evan Davis and Jenna ran to get food and joined in. It was the most fun they all had had in years. It felt like being a kid again.
Wraith just ignored it all and walked up to his wife with a disapproving look. “Ten grand?”
Lilly giggled. “I got this. Holly never wins at rock-paper-scissors. She always chooses rock.”
“And if you win?”
Lilly dodged a biscuit that flew past her head. “We give her and Colt the money to start their new life. Maybe for the wedding, or a nice honeymoon, maybe a little back for when they have a baby.”
“If you lose?” Wraith crossed his arms over his chest, trying to seem angry.
“Then still I give her my money from the bet for her wedding. I was going to help pay for her dress, anyway. Just like I did for Isis. Holly has had a rough life baby. She’s like our own daughter. Let me do this for my girl. Her and Isis and like daughters to me.” Lilly smiled.
He leaned over to kiss his wife. “You’re amazing.”
About that time Lilly grabbed another pie and slapped him in the side of the face with it.
Wraith licked his lip in annoyance. He tilted his head to the side and swiped off some pie from his face. He took his finger to lick the pie off his finger. “Nah. Not as good as your pie.”
“I thought you like pie?”
Wraith wiggled his eyebrows and started kissing her neck. “I’m talking about the pie only I get to taste.”
Lilly giggled and pushed him away playfully. “You’re naughty.”
“And you love it, my little flower.”
As the crowd settled down, Davis went back to the stage. “All right, you hooligans. Now that you have destroyed my backyard. Let’s finish this contest. Jenna, I think you and Nick have a surprise for everyone after the games.”
“Sure do Daddy. Come on, Nick. Let’s go get it ready.”
Davis smiled a devious smile as she headed around the side of the mansion. “Okay. Holly and Lilly.”
They went to the stage and Holly danced around like she was ready for a fight. Shaking out her body and twisting her neck. “Okay, Wheels. Let’s see what you got.”
The two women got ready for the game.
“Ready?” Davis yelled.
“Ready.”
Everyone chanted, “Rock, paper, scissors.”
Holly threw rock just like Lilly suspected. Wraith looked at his wife like she was crazy. He put his fist on his hips, looking angry. “She let her win. I’ll be a son of a…”
Colt was standing on the other side of the stage and winked at Lilly. Wraith could read his lips saying, ‘Thank you.’
“He was in on it. Lilly threw the game to let Holly win so she could give money to Colt and Holly for the wedding. God, I love my wife.”
A few minutes later, Jenna and Nick rode around the side of the mansion in a truck with a big water tank in back. Nick was driving and Jenna was laughing and had a huge water gun, dousing the guest.
Wraith went and pushed his wife off the stage and Jenna saw him. She blasted them with water and Wraith tried to protect himself and his wife but was failing miserably from laughing.
Already wet, he grabbed his wife, threw her over his shoulder, headed to the obstacle course pool, and jumped in. When they came back up from the water, people were standing around laughing. Wraith pulled his wife to him and kissed her hard. No one had ever seen Wraith Evans ever laugh and have fun as much he had today.
Lilly wrapped her arms around him, kissing him. “I love you Wraith Evans and our big crazy family.”
