Blaine Lombardi's POV
Lucia and I took turns christening the house. My lover was a bit of a vixen, constantly luring me in. Every surface was touched by my friend's fire. She had fallen asleep a while ago and was cuddled up in the white blankets of my bed.
I was standing in front of my wall-length windows, watching the sun rise. I thought a lot about my mom. I think she would have been happy with the woman Lucia became. I nearly missed the beady eyes staring at me as I grinned at the thought.
My sparkling green eyes are staring at me through the window. My first thought is to connect Johnson with Cyril.

"Lucia."
It gives her a growling look. It leaps at her, its yellow fangs sticking out. I grabbed its throat and made it drop to the floor. Without hesitation, I rip my hand through its chest cavity and remove its heart. Suffocating, the nightshade falls to the ground and disappears into the dust. I'm staring at my nightmare becoming real as my palm is leaking warm blood onto the floor.
Lucia covers her mouth with her palm. She appears surprised.
"Was that a nightshade?"
I gave her a nod and took her in my arms. One of my black shirts was on her. Our mate appears to be fully ours, and my wolf growls with delight as it nearly touches her knees. There are bite marks all over her neck, I can still smell my release between her thighs, and my hands are still pulling her hair.

I said to her, reluctantly, "You should get cleaned up; your brother will be here soon."

Cyril and Johnson ran in front of my dad and Lucia's dad.

Steve says, "This was too close; Lucia could have been hurt."
I release my growl.
"I can defend my partner without a doubt," I answered.
Despite his lack of enthusiasm, he finishes the talk.
"There haven't been any reports of Nightshades from other packs," Johnson stated.
"I doubt any of them would want to help us; the East Coast has a rogue problem right now, and the closest pack is not exactly a fan of ours," Cyril stated.
It was true that the Midnight Pack and the Blood Moon Pack were constant competitors in everything. They would want to see us fall. They have an alpha that I have no problem killing.
"What about the Pack from Silver Creek? "It seems like the only thing they have against us is that my daughter completely smashes their runners every time there's a race," Steve says, presumably in a bragging manner.
"Silver Creek Pack is too small of a pack; we should wait before dragging them into this," I say.
This is just one instance, so we could be in error. Johnson claims that nightshades are only effective in groups.
We all fell silent for a while as we thought about what to do next. Johnson takes a whiff of the air and smiles as if he's eating poop.
"This place smells like sex," he exclaims, "you canine!"

Steve and Cyril both snarled, but my father just gave me a funny look. I look him in the eye, and Johnson sees his mistake right away.
"Wow! This place smells sensual, almost like bergamot. Sheepishly, remarks Johnson.
"Well, how about we increase patrol and call for a pack meeting to alert the others?" I say, attempting to change the subject. Cyril nods and gives me a grunt of approval. They all turn to go, using the broken glass in my window as an entry instead of the main door.
I let out a disappointed sigh. "Alphas don't ever stop."
I went to my fridge and opened it. I reach for it and realize it's a water bottle.
"Eggs, water, cheese, meat, fruit, and vegetables."
After Mom passed away, my dad always followed easy, usually healthy meals because Mom was always the cook in the family. What cuisine does Lucia have a preference for? I made a list of the supplies I would need to make Lizzy Temple.
Maybe I should just see what else she likes to eat. The woman couldn't really survive on her favorite fruity drink, can she?
I hear the water running in my shower and I run up the stairs.
Is she still within?
I enter the restroom and immediately notice how cool the black marble is underfoot. The glass doors allow me to see exactly what my mate is doing.
