She sits down on the couch near me and hugs me.
"Wait, don't you have to pick up Melody today?" She asks me.
"Oh shoot. I was supposed to pick her up fifteen minutes ago. But I don't want to see Noah."
I look at her and give her a baby face. "Can you pick her up pretty please?"
"Ava, I already picked her up four times, plus I can't. I have work. Sorry. I can bring you there though. Noah will just have to drop you off."
"I'll just ask Sasha."
I quickly get dressed and get into Dayna's car. She drops me off at his house. "Bye, good luck." She blows kisses then drives off.
I ring the doorbell and the servant appears. She welcomes me and I head to Noah's room.
I knock on his room door. "Come in," he says. I do.
"Sorry, I'm la-" when he becomes visible, I see that he's shirtless. A towel is all that covers his lower body. His hair and face are wet. He just got out of the shower.
My heart beats fast in my chest. Oh. My. God.
"I just put her down when you didn't show up. You're welcome to stay here and wait if you want." He says while drying his hair with another towel.
"Where's Sasha?" I ask, trying to avoid looking at him.
"She went shopping with some friends. She should be here in an hour or so."
I nod and look at things in his room.
He approaches me.
"Ava, are we good? Dayna's been picking Melody up for the last few weeks. I want us to be on good terms."
He says. He smells like coconut. Ugh. The scent is enticing.
"Yeah sure,"
"Ava, don't lie to me."
He looks at me now, his gray eyes staring at me intensely. Love me! I want to tell him. Choose me! I want to say. But he's engaged, and he's getting married tomorrow. I'm usually not one to come between people, but I love him and his fiancé's a bitch. So I kiss him, and he kisses back.
I back off, worried that I may have made a mistake. Maybe I'm going too far.
He touches the side of my face and this time he kisses me first. We both know this is well overdue.
He picks me up now, while still kissing me, my legs are wrapped around his waist. He cups my ass. He carries me to the bed and puts me down. We fall asleep after. I'm awake by the sounds of Melody crying. I blink awake and see Noah feeding Melody. I love the sight of that. I love this feeling right now. The sun is starting to rise. I didn't know I slept here till morning.
I'm then brought back to reality. It's Noah's wedding day.
I quickly get up and Noah looks at me.
"Good morning sleepyhead," he says.
"Good morning," I repeat.
I am on my way to the bathroom, when Noah says, "going to brush your teeth? That's probably a good idea."
My cheeks turn red. "Shut up," I say.
I put my hand to my mouth, trying to smell my breath. Oh God, he's right. It smells awful. I find an extra toothbrush and brush my teeth. I fix my hair and head back to his room.
There's a knock on his door.
"Noah, are you getting ready?"
It's his mother. Oh crap. I hide under the bed.
She opens the door.
"What is Melody still doing here? Wasn't Ava supposed to pick her up last night? How selfish is she? Today's your wedding day!"
"I decided I wanted to keep her for a little while longer," he says. "It'd be easier to get her ready for the wedding here."
"So is Ava not coming anymore?" She looks pleased.
"No, she is," he responds.
"I see," she says as she looks around the room.
"Was Devlin here last night?"
Damn. She spotted my panties. This keeps happening to me. I should just start going commando from now on.
"Uh no..." He looks at my thong and widens his eyes.
"She left that here a while ago. I just found it when I was cleaning up," He says.
She laughs. "You young folks and your dirty activities."
She approaches Noah and pinches his cheeks. "I've been waiting for this day forever! I'm so proud of you, for taking over your father's company, and getting married." She sits on the bed. "I only wish your brother was as serious about his life and his career as you are."
She gets up. "Oh well, maybe seeing you married today will encourage him to get on the right path." She kisses him on the cheek. She kisses melody after. "Well, I'll see you at the wedding," she says one last time before she exits.
I crawl from under the bed.
"I feel like I'm in high school again," he jokes.
I get dressed and sit on the bed. He sits next to me.
"Last night was perfect huh," he says kissing me on the cheek. He looks sad. I take this as my opportunity to speak.
"So how should we do this?" I ask him.
"Do what?"
"Well first, when should I "pick up" Melody? And second, how are we going to tell Devlin that the wedding is off?"
He sighs. He doesn't look as happy as I hoped he'd be.
"You can pick her up after the ceremony I guess. Sasha can buy her an outfit for the wedding. You don't have to worry about that."
I go still. I feel like someone stuck a glass in my heart.
"You're still getting married?" I ask him?
"Ava, I'm sorry. I just can't. Last night was amazing but I can't break it off, don't you understand?"
I get up and put my jacket on.
"I guess I do," I say before I leave his room. He calls after me but I ignore him. Tears formulate in my eyes but I decide to keep them in until I get home.
When I get downstairs, I see his father in the sunroom reading the newspaper. I try to sneak past him to the front door.
"Good morning Ava," he says as he puts his newspaper down.
"Good morning Mr.Knight," I stop dead in my tracks.
"Fun night?" He asks.
I blush.
He picks up his newspaper again. "You probably want to use to back door. Nina is gardening in the front."
"Thank you," I say.
He nods and continues to read.
I hurry out the back door and realize that I don't have a ride home. I am attempting to climb over their fence when a police officer flashes a light in my face. I don't understand why he's flashing a light at me when it's bright outside. I squint.
It's the same officer from the other night.
"Breaking and entering?" He says. "You're coming with me!"
"Are you serious? I was leaving." I tell him.
"Do I look like I'm joking?" He asks. "And just because you were fleeing the scene, doesn't make the charges go away."
He takes out his handcuffs and handcuffs me. We walk to his car and he puts me into the back of his police car.
