The sun was beating down as Zane hauled the mountain of bags behind Sera, who seemed completely unfazed. Two bags balanced awkwardly on his right shoulder, two clenched tight in his hands, and the last one precariously held between his teeth.

Boys along the path caught sight of him and exchanged approving nods. Some gave subtle thumbs-ups, a silent acknowledgment of the unofficial "carrier of the queen." Zane grunted, more from exhaustion than pride.
