"Where's Rain? " Evelyn asked as she walked into the kitchen.
"Isn't he on the veranda? I saw him there a few minutes before, " Amelia looked back at the girl.
"He isn't there, " Evelyn frowned. "I searched everywhere but he's nowhere,"
"Don't worry, dear. He must've gone out for a walk," Scarlett patted Evelyn's shoulder with a small smile.
"Do you think he found his mate already?" The girl asked her mother-in-law.
Scarlett smiled. "If they live in our pack, then, of course, his wolf must've been able to sense them by now,"
"Maybe he's spending time with them, " Amelia shrugged as she stirred something that was in the pan.
Evelyn's frown didn't soften. She had an unsettling feeling in her heart.
"Don't worry, Evelyn. Let's go and look for him after some time if he's not back by then, " Scarlett told the omega.
Evelyn gave them a nod and tight-lipped smile before she walked out of the kitchen.

The omega stopped when she saw Josh sitting on the veranda with his head in his hand. She walked towards the beta and put a hand on his shoulder, causing him to flinch in surprise.
"Josh… are you okay? " Evelyn asked him, her voice soft and caring.
She knew he wasn't feeling well.
From the looks of it, Rain isn't his mate. And everyone knew how much Josh loved Rain so it must be really hard for him.
"I'm—I'm okay, luna. I was just… thinking," The beta looked down again with a sigh.
Evelyn sat down beside him and gave him a small smile. "You know, there's someone out there for you too… " She trailed off.
Josh chuckled. "I know, " He smiled. "I'm just worried about Rain… I just want him to be happy. I hope his mate cherish him because he's that precious, "
"Let's hope for that, " The omega smiled. "By the way, did you see him anywhere?"
"Huh? No, I didn't. You don't know where he is? '' Josh looked at the girl quizzically.
Evelyn shook her head. "I can't find him. Scarlett and Amelia said that he might have went out for a walk, "
"Hmm… That must be the case then, " The beta nodded. "I'm going inside. I need to take a shower, " He said as he stood up.
Evelyn stopped him before he went inside. "You're okay, right? " She asked again which caught the beta off guard.
Josh gave her a small smile. "I'll be okay, luna," He replied before walking inside the packhouse.
But the luna didn't fail to catch how his voice cracked and how his eyes glistened with tears when he said that.

"Guys, it's 11.PM and Rain's still not back," Evelyn announced as she walked into the hallway where everyone was sitting. "We need to search for him cause I'm getting worried,"
Scarlett stood up. "What? I thought he's back already, "
"Did you search everywhere in the packhouse? " Keiran asked.
"I searched everywhere but he isn't here, " The girl replied worriedly. "Let's go search for him cause I'm freaking out now,"
"I'll go to look for him," Josh stood up and walked towards the door but he was stopped by Keiran before he could walk out.
"Wait, I'm coming with you. Let's call a few warriors too, " The alpha said before he jogged to catch up with the beta. "You guys look around the packhouse. We'll let you know if we find something," He said to everyone before walking out.
Everyone set off to search as the alpha told them. But even after half an hour of searching, they couldn't find anything.
"Where did he go? " Evelyn mumbled, tugging on her hair frustratedly.
"Luna! The alpha found him! "
Evelyn turned to the panting omega maid in surprise.
"What?! Where are they?" She ran towards the maid.
"They're—They're in Amelia's office," The maid breathed out.
Amelia's office?
That's not a good sign.
The girl ran as soon as she heard that.
Her feet stopped in front of the cabin where everyone was gathered. The omega's heartbeat sped up like it was going crazy.
"W-What happened? " She questioned shakily when Scarlett approached her with a sad expression.
"Rain… He's—He's hurt… " Scarlett stuttered out before looking down.
"Wh-What? " The omega asked again. It felt like her mind needed confirmation.
"Keiran found him in his mother's garden. He was bleeding and unconscious. Amelia is checking him now so there's no need to worry, " Scarlett mustered up a small smile to calm the omega.
Evelyn was shocked. She couldn't believe it. Why would anyone hurt the omega? He's the sweetest thing to ever exist.
The girl walked towards the cabin to see Josh sitting in front of it with his head in his hands. He was trembling slightly.
It was the first time Evelyn saw the beta being so messed up. The sight broke her heart.
Keiran came towards her and wrapped his arms around her to comfort the omega and it kind of worked. Evelyn wiped her tears and leaned into his touch as a sob broke out of her lips.
How did everything turn into this?
This was supposed to be a happy day.
This wasn't supposed to turn out like this.
After a few minutes, Amelia opened the cabin looking all messed up. Her eyes were red and puffy, evidence of her crying for a long time.
She took a deep breath and mustered up a small smile. "Rain's okay now… H-His head is injured and he lost a lot of blood so he's unconscious. His body was very cold… It seemed like he was lying there for hours… "
"Oh god…" Evelyn mumbled, tugging on her hair. "We should've looked for him sooner, "
Keiran hugged his mate closer. "It's okay… he's okay now, " He tried to comfort her.
Josh stepped forward suddenly, a frown forming on his beautiful face. His eyes were red and fiery. "Do you know what caused his injury? "
Amelia looked down. "We're not sure… Maybe it's because he tried to run and slipped because of the ice… Or maybe… someone might have pushed him… "
