The Ugly One Chapter 7

Friday night came, and my heart thumped against my chest. I didn't know what to expect, but I knew I couldn't let my guard down. It was Aaron Morris, after all. I don't remember him much from high school. He was older and unapproachable. Not to mention from a completely different social circle. I remembered seeing him on rallies and hallways sometimes. Girls always surrounded him. What's with girls always flocking around the bad boy types? What's so great about being treated like shit? I'll never understand. I decided to dress up a little. I dug out a summer dress I never wore and put it on. It was a white sleeveless short summer dress with blue flowers on the skirt. Very girly. I straightened my hair with a hot iron, so it didn't look coarse and crazy. It took me an hour to get it done. This is why I don't dress up. I looked in the mirror and felt a little more confident about our date. Liliana was right. I don't look half bad when I dress up. I heard a car outside. It was almost 8 pm, so Aaron must be here. "Could you get the door?" I shouted from my room. My parents weren't home, and I wanted Liliana to open the door, so she knows Aaron Morris is taking ME out. Suck on that, bitch! I went outside and saw Lilian still out there talking to Aaron. Must be trying to charm her way into his heart. "There you are, Jane Brown!" Aaron said, his eyes lit up as he saw me. "Hi," I said shyly. "You look great," he smirked. I blushed. I may have been acting like I was too good for Aaron Morris in my head, but I was not immune to his boyish good looks and rock-hard abs in reality. I'm a teenage girl, for gosh sakes. "Well, it was nice talking to you and all, but we don't want to be late for our movie. So let's go, Jane," Aaron said to Liliana and took my hand. "Yes, bye Liliana," I batted my eyelashes at her to piss her off. "Don't wait up," I ended my goodbye with a dramatic hair flip, then hopped in the passenger seat. I hope she dies out of jealousy. "So, where are we going to see the movie?" I asked Aaron. "You'll see," he smirked. I took a closer look at him. He was wearing a flannel shirt with some jeans. Nothing too flashy, yet, he looked amazing. Perks of being good-looking, I guess. We drove for a while. After 30imutes or so, we finally arrived at our destination. I stared at the big red sign that said Drive-In Theater. Ah...the classic. But if he tries to force himself on me like in those old 80s movies, I'm going to kick him in his family jewels. But he didn't try anything funny. I occasionally caught him stealing glances at me, which was kind of cute. But I couldn't let my guard down entirely yet. I needed to figure out his true intentions. "So, why did you ask me out, Aaron?" I asked after the movie was over. "I told you, I find you interesting. And I think you are pretty too," he said. "You should really invest in some new glasses," I suggested. "I'm serious! Stop putting yourself down so much," Aaron said and stared at me intensely to show me he was serious. "I just...don't understand. You were one of the most popular guys in school, even with your bad reputation. Girls love you so you can have anyone you want. So excuse me for questioning your motive," I said. He grabbed my hand and squeezed it. "Maybe I'm trying to become a better person. I didn't like who I was back then, so I figured it's time to change. I'm tired of being labeled as a bully and a bad boy. And I feel like you could help me achieve that goal," he smiled. Maybe he was telling the truth. He wanted to change. I should stop being so suspicious all the time and just enjoy my time with him. "Look, it's not like I'm asking you to be my girlfriend or anything. I'm just asking you to give me the chance to show that I can be a good guy too," he said. "That's...fair," I said quietly. In the back of my mind, I was a tiny bit disappointed that he was not planning on asking me to be his girlfriend. "Thanks for going on a date with me. I had a good time. I guess I should take you home now, huh?" he asked. I wish my night ended with this amazing date with him, but now it's time for me to face the event I've been dreading all day. Tutoring his douche bag brother. "No...actually...I was wondering if you can take me to your house instead," I said awkwardly. Aaron looked at me in shock for a moment. "Whoa, Jane. I didn't realize you were this forward. It's only our first date, but if you really want to...." "WHAT! Oh my God, nooo! It's not what you think," I protested quickly. "Then why do you want to go back to my house?" Aaron asked. He looked almost disappointed. "Um...I promised Jake I'd tutor him in Math," I told him. It was a half-truth, at least. Aaron looked at me intently, like he was trying to read what was on my mind. "Why would you want to do that? I thought you guys hated each other. Didn't he bully you? Is this something he is forcing you to do again?" he asked. "Because if he is, you tell me, and I'll take care of it." I thought about it for a second. It was kind of tempting for me to get Aaron to teach Jake a lesson, but I didn't want to cause any trouble tonight. "No, it's not like that. I'm very good at math, so he asked for help," I said instead. Aaron raised his eyebrows but then nodded. "Well, in that case, let's go to my place," he said and started to drive. I hope Jake doesn't ruin my night. I thought as Aaron pulled into his driveway.
