Laura slowly came around and the first thing she noticed was the bright white light that hung on the ceiling. She groaned, trying to sit up but a gentle hand pushed her down.
"Please rest ma'am.’’ a voice said.
"Where am I?" Laura asked.
"Safe.’’
Laura's eyes were open now and she could pick out one or two things in the room. Immediately, she knew she was in a hospital since the walls were painted brilliant white.
"Missed me?" a voice said.
Laura whipped her head in the direction of the voice. She almost cried in relief when she saw Brian walking toward her.
"You bet.’’ Laura smiled.
Drew kissed her with all the emotions flowing through his body. He couldn't believe he almost lost her and he was grateful for the timely intervention of the doctor in charge who quickly flushed out the poison from her body.
"What happened?" She asked.
Drew took a seat close to her. He didn't know how to tell her but he knew he had to find a way because she deserved to know what happened.
"Please leave us,’’ Drew said.
Laura looked up, a bit startled that someone was there all along. It was the nurse who cared for her when she was down.
"Yes sir,’’ she said.
When she left, Drew carried his mate, sitting on the hospital bed as he placed her on his lap. He knew that it was against the ethics of the hospital but he didn't care.
"You know this isn't allowed right?" Laura laughed.
"Yes, I know and I don't care?’’ Drew grinned.
"Fiend. Now, tell me what happened.’’ Laura said.
"You sure you want to hear all about it?"
"Drew, I deserve to know.’’
"Okay... Okay. There's no other way to say it, laura you were poisoned.’’ he said.
"Poisoned? I don't understand?’’ she said.
There was a confused expression on her face that Brian kissed away. He never wanted to see her wear that expression again.
‘’Yes, by a poisoned dart. You were just about to enter the kitchen when you got shot at with it. The dart is with Jack, he has taken it to a lab for testing and I believe that soon, we will get an answer.’’ Drew said.
"It's no wonder I was feeling weak. I couldn't even feel my strength, Drew. At that moment, it seemed as if they were dead like they didn't exist.’’ Laura said.
"Whoever did this had the intention of crippling you through your magic. But they've failed this time and as soon as I have my answers, I'm going after them.’’ Drew vowed.
"Thank you. Thank you for bringing me here on time, if you hadn't, I could have kissed my powers goodbye.’’ Laura said.
"It's okay baby, I'm always here for you. Can you feel your strength now, at least even though only a little bit?’’ Drew asked.
He didn't know if she got them back after she was hit with the poison. If in the end she was rendered without powers, he vowed within himself to track down every single person who was responsible for that attack.
"Stand back a bit, let me try something.’’ laura said.
Fast as lightning, she sat up on her hospital bed swiftly, swinging her legs to the ground. Drew moved several steps back, he wasn't sure of what she wanted to do but he trusted her.
Right before his eyes, laura lifted his shirt off his body just with her mind. Drew smiled, happy that his mate had finally gotten her powers back. He felt a huge relief because he knew what it would mean if she lived without her powers.
"It's back.’’ she smiled.
Drew walked towards her, taking her in his arms. He was glad she was whole again, glad that her powers were back again.
"And I'm happy. I'm never leaving you alone again Laura, never again.’’ Drew smiled.
"I'm not a baby Drew, I was just caught off guard by the poison. You know I'm usually faster than that.’’ Laura smiled.
"It's true but that doesn't change the fact that I'm still not leaving you alone. Wherever I go, you go with me.’’ Drew vowed.
"Fine but can we leave this hospital, it's depressing, and oh my gosh, tell me you packed some of my stuff from Paris,’’ Laura said.
"Err... No babe, I didn't. I was so scared, especially with the way you were looking lifeless, I couldn't risk taking anything. My whole mind was on getting you to the nearest hospital.’’ Drew said.
"Well, I can't blame you for that. Now, please let's leave. This place is depressing and we need to see Alpha Nikolas.’’ Laura said.
Within the twinkle of an eye, she had a change of clothes through her magic. Drew could get used to this especially when she performs her magic without him knowing.
Drew took her by the arms, leading her out of the hospital room. Just as they were about to leave, the nurse who attended to her came rushing down, breathing heavily.
The poor woman had been running and it was just a flick of luck she was able to get them before they left the hospital completely.
"Ma'am, you're not fully fit to leave,’’ she said.
"As you can see, my mate is okay,’’ Drew growled.
Laura could tell that he was slowly losing his patience and any minute now, he would blow out in anger. She placed a warm comforting hand on his shoulder, silently reassuring him that it was okay.
"Babe, let me handle this,’’ Laura said.
Drew remained calm, taking in large amounts of air. He knew that it was the only way he could deal with the situation.
"Thank you nurse but I'm alright now.’’ Serah smiled.
"But the doctor... What do I tell him?" she said.
"Just tell him that I'm alright and I'm with Alpha Drew,’’ she said.
The nurse looked as if she wanted to say more but Laura smiled sweetly before walking out with Drew.
"You didn't tell me you were a badass,’’ Drew said.
"I like to keep my traits.’’ Laura smiled.
"And it's a damn good one.’’
She laughed, walking out hand in hand with him. She was happy to be alive and well. She couldn’t even begin to imagine what his life would have been like if she died in the process. No doubt, he would have been feeling miserable.

"So you almost escaped death eh?" Alpha Nikolas said.
"Twice as a matter of fact. Me first then Laura, it was a close shave" Drew said.
After leaving the hospital, Drew and his mate decided to visit Alpha Nikolas since it's been a long time since they saw him.
"Well, I'm glad you didn't die. That would have been disastrous" he said.
"How have you been Nick?" Drew said.
I've been well, I can't complain especially since you've sentenced me to a lifetime of caring and pampering, I definitely can't complain" he said.
"You deserve it Alpha’’ Laura smiled.
"How are your folks? I should have seen them since the unveiling but I haven't" he said.
Laura remained quiet, the issue of Alpha Jed and his son was another issue entirely.
She didn't know how she would tell Alpha Frederick that. It would be weird when he gets to know what happened.
"They're fine Nick. They called a few days ago and they extended their greetings" Drew lied smoothly.
At that moment, Laura was grateful for what he did. He skillfully diverted the attention of Alpha Nikolas away from her and Drew took that opportunity to take the bait.
"I see... Well, that's alright. As long as they're communicating, that's okay" he said.
Later on, they left the palace, heading towards Drew's Mansion. Drew was behind the wheels while Laura took a shotgun.
"Thank you for what you did back there, I mean with the issue of my parents and all," Laura said.
"You're welcome, love. My friend can be adamant especially when it comes to family and all. He has always been that way especially since my parents died" Drew said.
"Oh, it must have been so hard on him especially when they died".
"Very hard. My friend almost died when the doctor brought the news. You know, they've been friends for over thirty years. So, that's a long time and it hurts when you don't see the person you love anymore" Drew said.
He gripped the wheel tighter as he tried to control the emotions going through him. He vividly remembered the day it was announced that his mother died at the hands of the rogue wolves. At that moment, he thought he would die but he remained strong for the sake of his pack.
"I'm sorry you had to relive that experience," Laura said.
"It's okay, it's been a long time so I don't think or talk about it that much," Drew said.
"Was she old, I mean your mother when she died?" Laura asked.
"We don't know our age since we're wolves but she can't have been so old," Drew said.
"It's okay love, I'm here whenever you need me" Laura smiled.
Later on, after Drew dropped her off with a lot of security guards that could protect a small territory, he drove to the club where his friends, Killian and Jack were awaiting his arrival.
"Hey man," a man hollered.
Brian gave slapping handshakes to some of the men who took care of the club as he made his way to the private quarters of the club.
