Before he knew it, he felt a breakthrough. A shudder ran through his entire body as a new level of power settled within him.

Two men, both wearing dark hoods and masks that hid their faces, were cornering a young woman on the rocky side of a small mountain. All three of them were cultivators. Xie Lan could feel the power coming off them.
The men were clearly trying to capture her, but the girl was fighting back fiercely. Even from a distance, Xie Lan could tell she was stronger than the two men combined. But something was wrong. She was panting, and her movements were slow and heavy.
"She's poisoned," Xie Lan realized, his eyes narrowing. "That's why she can't beat them."
But even in pain, the girl looked like a warrior. Her face, beautiful and fairy-like, held a mix of fear and a stubborn courage. She wasn't giving up.
