The King of Urban Mercenaries Chapter 1

1: Chapter 1 Bullying God 1: Chapter 1 Bullying God Night began to fall over Zhonghai, and compared to the neon-lit bars filled with the aroma of intoxicating liquor, the footbridge was less frequented by people. Tonight was no exception. Lin Fei had been squatting in front of his stall for over an hour and hadn’t seen even a single customer. With a slightly long face and half-open, half-closed eyes, dressed in utterly plain casual clothes, Lin Fei, sitting on a small stool, began to yawn out of boredom. Setting up a stall on the footbridge was ; you could never predict whether you’d have any customers for the night. Lin Fei wasn’t new to this; he had experienced nights when he hadn’t sold a single item. Looking down at his stall, filled with various women’s small accessories and men’s wallets and belts, Lin Fei was considering whether he should pack up early when something caught his eye. Lin Fei thought to himself and instinctively looked up, his gaze swiftly moving up from a pair of beautiful legs. She was a charming woman with hair as fine as clouds, dressed in a tight dark-green blazer that perfectly outlined her figure. However, her casual flipping through the women’s accessories on the stall and the panicked look in her clear eyes told Lin Fei that she wasn’t genuinely interested in buying anything. “Though I hate to admit it, you are my first customer today,” Lin Fei started, “Is there anything you like here, miss? If so, I could offer you the lowest price.” Despite realizing that the woman did not have much of an intention to shop, Lin Fei still spoke up. After all, she was the first, and perhaps the only visitor of the evening. The woman in the dark-green blazer seemed not to be focusing on Lin Fei, frequently glancing back in the direction from which she had come. Hearing him speak, she bit her lip lightly, “I’m sorry, I’m not here to shop. I’m being chased by bad guys. Lin Fei frowned slightly. Undeniably, the woman was beautiful, but Lin Fei was not in the mood to meddle in others’ affairs. Years of foreign life filled with killing and bloodshed had left him physically and mentally exhausted. Now back in Zhonghai, all Lin Fei wanted was a peaceful life. He was enjoying his calm life and didn’t want any trouble. “Sorry, I’m just here to sell things. Customers, I welcome; anything else…” Lin Fei’s words were cut off halfway, but his message was clear—buy something, I welcome; ask for help, no thank you. Disappointment inevitably showed in the woman’s clear eyes. However, she seemed to think of something suddenly and pointed her delicate finger at the items on Lin Fei’s stall, “If you help me, I’ll take everything you have.” Lin Fei, who was about to rest, suddenly lit up, “Are you sure?!” The woman pulled out a stack of hundred-yuan notes from her bag, “I’m sure and certain, but I must warn you, there are quite a few bad guys after me. If you take my money, you must ensure they don’t catch me.” “The customer is God, and one must help God!” With his finances tight, Lin Fei did not hesitate too much and grabbed the money from the woman’s hand and stashed it in his pocket. A customer with money and generosity was not easy to come by, especially since this was the first time Lin Fei had encountered such a customer in his months of running the stall. Taking money to ward off disasters for others was one of the mercenary’s creeds. When Lin Fei first started as a mercenary, he had taken several similar protection jobs. Because of his excellent skills, many wealthy businessmen and politicians wanted to hire Lin Fei as their private bodyguard. But of course, those were all years ago. Seeing that Lin Fei had taken her money, though visibly disgruntled by Lin Fei’s self-righteous manner of “taking the money,” the woman still sighed in relief, “They’re almost here; what’s your plan to help me? I can’t run anymore.” Even if the woman hadn’t mentioned it, Lin Fei had already noticed that the woman was physically drained. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have stopped and hovered around his stall. “Isn’t it simple just to make them not see you?” Lin Fei finished speaking, stood up, pulled the woman into his arms, spun around, and pressed her against the railings of the pedestrian bridge. “What, what are you doing?!” The woman clearly didn’t expect Lin Fei to suddenly take action, and being suddenly embraced by Lin Fei caused her to panic, instinctively starting to struggle. Lin Fei tightened his arms, his voice cold, “If you don’t want to be caught by them, keep quiet. If I’m not mistaken, the people chasing you are already on the bridge.” Feeling the woman settle down, Lin Fei breathed a sigh of relief. Indeed, several unfamiliar men had appeared on the bridge, expectedly the villains the woman had mentioned who were pursuing her. If the woman kept struggling, there was no guarantee that these men wouldn’t notice something amiss. “You two go that way, and you three go that way, and make sure to find that woman for me.” Just as Lin Fei predicted, the several men who stormed the bridge were indeed after the woman in his arms. The leader, a burly man adorned with a silver chain of thumb’s thickness and dressed in a checkered shirt, directed his companions to start searching on the bridge. The woman in Lin Fei’s arms stiffened as she heard the man in the checkered shirt speak, her breathing slowing considerably, fearful of being discovered. “Biao Bro, we haven’t found that woman.” “Biao Bro, we haven’t found her on this side either.” The man called Biao Bro, wearing the checkered short-sleeve shirt, spat out a wad of saliva, cursing fiercely, “That damn b**** has been drinking, she couldn’t have run far, she must be hiding nearby!” Lin Fei couldn’t help but inwardly mock, thinking how smart the thugs had become these days. If the woman wasn’t with him, she would most likely have been caught tonight. “Hey, kid, have you seen a beautiful woman in stockings pass by here?” Among Biao Bro’s group, someone sharp-eyed spotted Lin Fei and called out to him. As this man spoke, members of Biao Bro’s group turned their attention towards Lin Fei, who had his back towards them. Lin Fei, not squatting by his stall but instead standing with his back to them, inevitably raised suspicions in the group. “Hey, kid, I’m talking to you, are you fucking mute?!” The first man to speak, seeing no response from Lin Fei, grew suspicious and strode towards Lin Fei. Lin Fei inwardly cursed his luck, his mind working fast, and quickly leaned down to kiss the woman’s lips. “Kid, so you were making out, huh? Messing around on the bridge in the middle of the night. If you can’t hold it in, just go rent a room, or if you’re broke, find a secluded spot for a quickie!” “Haha, right, get moving and find a place, kid.” With a few scoffs at Lin Fei, and under Biao Bro’s signal, the group followed the direction Lin Fei pointed and chased down. With the external threat now gone, Lin Fei couldn’t justify taking advantage of the woman any longer. He released his arms and let go of the woman. Compared to when they first met, the woman, who had been through quite the ordeal with Lin Fei, was already blushing, her breath as fragrant as orchid. She straightened her clothes a bit, took several deep breaths, and with annoyed embarrassment, glared at Lin Fei, “Customer is king, is this how you treat your king?!”
