"Yes." Max quickly snapped out of his thoughts, scanning the room to see Mia and Camila staring at him weirdly.
"Where were you lost?" Mia asked with a raised eyebrow.
"No... nowhere," Max said as he glanced down at his hand, then tossed the shirt in it into a bag.
"What do you mean by nowhere? We called you close to seven times without any reply from you, and you say nowhere? Something is bothering you and I... we want to know what." Camila demanded, causing Max to just sigh and then walk towards the bed.
He sat on it with his face buried in his palms, which caused the women to sit on either side of him.
"What’s wrong?" Mia asked again.
"It’s just that I was approached by a scout. He wanted me to join a college that he would pay for." Max sighed while weaving a beautiful lie.
"So? Why should that bother you when it’s obviously good news?" Camila said.
"The issue is that the college is quite far away, and I don’t feel like joining. I’m about to get dragged into something I don’t wish for and might not be able to pull out in time. That’s what got me confused." Max admitted with a tired sigh.
"Do you know what I have learnt in my life?" Mia asked, causing Max to glance up.
"It’s for you to grab whatever opportunity comes your way on time. If you don’t, you might just lose it, and it will be gone forever. Now, I don’t really know why you don’t want to attend a college when someone is offering the opportunity to you.
But if you don’t accept, you might not receive an opportunity again. And if you accept, who knows, you might just make a difference where you’re headed." Mia said with a wide smile.
"And whatever decision you want to make, whatever you want to do, I got your back every step of the way." Camila added.
"We... we got your back every step of the way." Mia interjected.
"Yeah, whatever." Camila clicked her tongue as the women stared daggers at each other, which didn’t go unnoticed by Max.
’Huh? What’s wrong with them? Why are they glaring at each other like they could kill themselves?’ Max thought as he scanned them over and over.
"Okay." Max suddenly said, causing the women to stop staring at each other and turn towards him. "I think I will take your advice and go for the college."
"That’s great." Mia said with a warm smile on her face.
"So since you have accepted, when are you leaving?" Camila asked as she finally stood up from the bed. "Next week? Next month? Or in three months?"
"Tomorrow." Max replied, causing Camila to halt her steps in shock, and even Mia had her mouth wide agape.
"Tomorrow?" Camila and Mia asked in unison.
"Yes." Max nodded along.
"Why so soon?" Mia asked.
"I don’t know, the earlier the better." Max shrugged.
"So what will now become of us?" Camila asked with a deeply furrowed brow.
"What do you mean?" Max asked with a raised eyebrow.
Glancing at Camila, Mia just shook her head.
"Being a woman, I think I understand her. But seriously, what will become of us? Especially since you are leaving so soon." Mia demanded.
"And I ask again, what do you mean?" Max asked.
"Did you know that since the day we had fun together, none of my tools could bring back that excitement I felt that day? So how do you want me to survive without you for only heavens know how long?" Camila said as she walked towards Max.
"So what do you want me to do now? Not go tomorrow?" Max teased as he was already beginning to understand where the women were headed.
"No!" Camila and Mia shook their heads in unison, their voices ringing with the same playful determination. "Let’s all have great fun."
"Meaning?" Max asked, teasing them further and wanting them to say exactly what they meant with their own mouths.
