Chapter 7 – The QUEST
The door creaked as I pushed it open. The familiar wooden scent of the inn’s main hall washed over me, blending with the faint aroma of stew and freshly baked bread. Compared to the suffocating gloom of the dungeon, this place felt like a sanctuary. The lanternlight glowed warm and steady, casting away shadows that clung to me even after leaving that forsaken place.
Before I could even step further inside, a cheerful voice rang out.
"Oh, Michael! Where have you been the last two days?"
I turned toward the source—the innkeeper’s wife, a plump woman with bright brown eyes and a motherly smile that could soften stone. She dried her hands on an apron as she approached me with both concern and warmth.
"It’s already the 9th of March. You didn’t show up yesterday either," she said, looking me up and down. "I was beginning to worry something had happened to you."
Behind her, the innkeeper himself leaned against the counter, polishing a mug with a rag. He had the kind of weathered face that spoke of long years in the trade, his gray hair tied back into a stubby knot. He grunted when he saw me.
"Ah, Michael. Don’t forget, the academy entrance exam is on the 15th. Be prepared."

After a bit more small talk, I excused myself and headed upstairs. My legs felt heavy as I climbed, and by the time I opened the door to my room, it was like dropping a weight I didn’t know I’d been carrying.

I leaned back on the bed, closing my eyes, dredging through the half-buried memories of my past life. Game lore. Side quests. Hidden developer notes.
And then it came to me.

But the sword was too dangerous, it could possess its wielder if they weren’t strong enough. So Delora sealed it away, burying it beneath the roots of an ancient tree in the Black Forest.
It was locked behind a trial, with a stone seal marked by a symbol. Press the symbol, and the door to the hidden chamber would open.
And there, waiting, would be the sword.
"Drakran Sword..." I whispered, eyes gleaming.
In the game, no one ever retrieved it. It had remained a legend, a whisper. But now? Now I had a chance.
