The Evolution Compendium Chapter 224

Chu Yi’s expression was calm. This hurricane was formed from souls, countless malevolent spirits devouring everything. But Chu Yi’s Soul-Calling Banner was precisely the bane of such spirits; it collected them all into the Chaotic Burial Mound, grinding away their energy to feed the Bone Demon. He looked at this delicate Lantern Girl. He couldn’t help but want to say, "Again!" The Lantern Girl’s face turned cold. The lantern swayed, and a condensed shadow floated out. It gradually grew larger and thicker, and after a few seconds, a monstrous giant with a green face and sharp fangs appeared. It chewed on some unknown flesh, its sharp teeth grinding and spraying a mist of blood as its figure became increasingly solid. Its speed was extreme, charging forward like a phantom. One shadowy hand twisted into countless tentacles and claws, crushing down towards Chu Yi. Chu Yi urged the Bone Demon. His entire body was covered in a layer of White Frost Bone Armor, and a strange power surged into the Blood Spear. This rusty short spear, imbued with the essence of ancient times, instantly transformed into a blood-red streak of light, distorting past and present. This meant that even before the shadowy giant’s palm could strike, Chu Yi had already launched his attack with the Blood Spear! The blood-red light pierced through the shadowy giant’s palm. The Divine Hand, carrying a dazzling white light, transformed into a flowing white hue, ready to devour. The Lantern Girl snorted coldly, her delicate arm shaking as the lantern flickered. The shadowy giant suddenly swelled. Its entire body became a swirling vortex of gray and black, like a brewing storm, and a powerful shockwave exploded outward from its center! Chu Yi was instantly blasted away. He smashed through a dozen Trees of the Bizarre, his body becoming enveloped by a faint gray hue that entangled him. Then, the human skin writhed before being swallowed once more by the Soul-Calling Banner and cast into the Chaotic Burial Mound. Chu Yi coughed lightly. His soul had been consumed, but his terrifying self-healing ability worked wonders. Not only was he unharmed, but he had actually grown slightly stronger. He picked up the Blood Spear and glanced at the cold-faced Lantern Girl, contemplating his strategy. He wasn’t used to short spears; he much preferred blades. If it weren’t for the Soul-Calling Banner’s immunity to soul attacks, he would have suffered greatly. Yet, as if fated, he felt he wasn’t a match for this Lantern Carrier. He needed to cultivate the Golden Body first, refresh the Golden Feast, and find an unparalleled time-type offensive skill. But the Nether River’s interwoven rules might not necessarily be useful. Or perhaps... he could use the gray fog for cover, switch to his main account, and summon the Flower of Desire for an instant kill. No questions asked. But the latter option could easily attract the attention of the gods, and the depths of the Nether River housed terrifying, unknown entities—a gamble Chu Yi couldn’t afford. What if he killed the younger one, only for an elder to appear? That would be very troublesome. "Not bad. As food, you’re becoming more delicious." The Lantern Girl rarely spoke, but this time, her words were to praise Chu Yi for being delectable. As soon as her voice fell, the White Bone Lantern quivered, summoning an unknown presence. Chu Yi felt an overwhelming terror engulf his heart. An invisible force assailed him from all directions as the white fog closed in, and shadows rose, blocking his escape routes. He made a grasping motion with his hand. Soil flew up, and numerous bone walls rose before him, layer upon layer, forming an unassailable fortress of bone. A piercing sound formed a shockwave that shattered the bone walls. The Lantern Girl lifted a dim lantern, looking at the empty space behind where the bone walls had been, and frowned slightly. Beside her, a three-meter-tall, shriveled female ghost searched for any sign of the living. Its head was half the size of its body, with a pointed nose, ape-like jaws, and fangs; its limbs were long and slender. This was the second stage of the "Beast"! The Lantern Girl sensed something. She lifted her graceful neck and saw a streak of late crepuscular Twilight Light enter her vision, her thoughts gradually solidifying. Amidst the hazy white fog, a youth with a six-winged Crown Flame appeared like a fallen angel. He was ablaze with Pale Fire that enveloped his entire body. His eyes had transformed into a scorching vortex where stark white and the Twilight Light intertwined, sending a genuine tremor of fear through her! Fear? Am I actually afraid of his flames? Chu Yi leaped into the sky. The Crown Flame and Bone Fire burned together, igniting the encroaching white fog with a crackling sizzle. Instantly, the fog thinned; even the writhing creatures formed from the mist could not endure the scorching heat of the flames! Thinking it over, retreating isn’t my style. Chu Yi stared at the Lantern Girl, a deathly smile on his face. He raised the rusty short spear, which became wreathed in a swirl of Bone Fire, transforming into a Blazing Flame Spear! The Bone Demon then injected its strange power into it, and the Blood Spear also merged with the power of the Nether Bone Fire. This, however, was very taxing on his soul. Taking down this Lantern Girl... the rewards would be unimaginable! This brazen act stunned the audience atop the White Tower. They were amazed that this human was so fierce. Not only was he matching the Lantern Carrier blow for blow, but he now actually intended to eliminate her. How daring could he be? And he was merely the follower of a fairy game piece! The assembled Alien Races were silent. After a brief silence, a cacophony of discussion erupted. "Could he, a human, really be about to take down this Lantern Carrier?" "Since when did followers become fiercer than the game pieces they serve, actually fighting a Lantern Carrier? The gods must have erred in their judgment!" "Notice, his weapon is peculiar, and he must possess a treasure that negates soul attacks! That has to be it. Otherwise, there’s no explaining how he could fight the Lantern Carrier for so long!" "That short spear... I feel like I’ve seen it somewhere. Could it be one of the fragments of the Godslaying Spear?" The Alien Races had their eyes truly opened, their opinions on this human youth mixed. Han Bufan and Luo Zhen were already numb. They were initially on edge. But seeing Chu Yi handle himself with ease, holding his own without his Pet Beast present and relying solely on his Human-Pet Fusion Technique, they all breathed a sigh of relief. They suspected Chu Yi’s participation in this Divine War was Old Master Qin Zheng’s suggestion. Speaking of Qin Zheng, he was the preeminent talent of their generation, a prodigy who should have advanced to become a Radiant Moon-level Demon! "Zhang Yi is cursing himself for being stupid, for failing to keep an eye on Chu Yi. He’s already on his way." "It seems Zhang Yi was unaware." "Should we notify Qin Zheng? He’ll probably arrive later, right?" "Yes, let’s contact him first." Just as the two began to relax, they witnessed something that made their vision go black: Chu Yi was about to fight the Lantern Carrier to the death? Why provoke her? Run! Do you really think you can defeat an anomaly from the Nether River?! the two roared frantically in their hearts. The Pale Fire left an astonishing trail as the six wings of the Crown Flame propelled Chu Yi forward, charging towards the Lantern Girl. The bizarre woman beside her immediately mobilized the Power of Rules. She opened her cavernous mouth, fangs dripping saliva, as a solidified soundwave blasted out!
