Juliana's Pov:
It has been two days after the torture, and I have started adjusting to the rules even though I still have my plans of setting them free at the back of my head. I ensured to carry on with my duties and moved on like I have no plans. I make sure to avoid their boss Carter, or anything that has to do with him.
We were assigned specific chores, Ariana was washing the toilets and their bathrooms while mine was for cooking food. I sometimes wonder how she was able to pull up with the washing of that disgusting place but it seems like she has no choice, and besides nobody's says matters here. Seeing her scrubbing and tidying the place, hurts me. She is too old for all this but those rascals don't care.
I always think about how to escape this place without blowing my cover, without them having to know anything about the mystery power. The strange gifts!
"Maybe we can poison them," Heaven said, startling me. It has been a long time since I heard her voice, it was as if she abandoned me. Tears drip out of my eyes, I have so much missed her. I thought that I was all alone in this terrifying world.
"I can't leave you, so don't worry about my distant behaviors," she mumbled.
"But why did you leave me without a word?" I asked heartbrokenly.
"I never left you, Juliana, I was just hurting," she confessed with a mild voice.
"Yeah, I understand……" I paused with a sad smile on my lips.
"We are cursed, they don't need us! Not even our mates!" I tearfully yelled within.
"We are not a curse, Juliana," Heaven drawled.
"Then what are we? A pleasant or fascinating creature…….. Haha, still our mates abandoned us without a second thought. That they even strived to have us killed,"
"WHAT ARE WE, HEAVEN?" I yelled with pain and anger.
"I have no idea what Juliana," she said, muffled.
"But we can find out," she muttered.
"Really! Find out how…….. Aren't you tired of living?" I fought back the tears threatening to escape.
"But we can…….
" ENOUGH!....." I cut her off as I blocked and shoved her at the back of my head. I have had enough of that, I am devastated and wounded. My heart is sore and in pain, I don't want anything like a mate or any silly love around me. I just wanted to die and forget all these pains.
I sat at the back of their house, with my head lowered. My heart breaks and hurts. It hurts so much that I feel as if I am suffocating, I noticed a rustling sound behind me. Turning around I was met with Ariana and that reminds me that I haven't seen her since this morning.
"Good morning," standing instantly, I greeted her but in a lower tone to avoid Carter's men from hearing me because that would result in punishment for breaking the rules.
"What's wrong, your eyes……. They are red, have you been crying?" Ignoring me, she asked, concerned.
"It is nothing, Ariana," I lied.
"Juliana, come on…….. You know that you can tell me anything, right," walking towards me, she muttered.
"Just forget about that, it is nothing," I said with a deep sigh.
"Juliana…." She called.
"Please, forget about that," I mumbled, leaving no room for discussion. Though I wanted to disclose my pains to her, I am scared that she is going to judge me just like others. I am afraid that she will join the crew in criticizing me and calling me all sorts of names, I just wanted to enjoy her company without her knowing my identity. I just wanted to enjoy this moment and live in it.
"Fine!" She gave up
"But always bear in mind that I am always here, in case you need someone to share your pains with," she caressed my cheeks before turning to leave.
"Where are you going?" I asked, confused.
"I need to finish my duties," she said with a small smile.
"Then why are you here since you are not done with your chores yet?"
"I noticed that I haven't seen you since morning and besides I needed to stretch my legs," she muttered, I nodded at her. She acts strange, I noticed that she is limping though she forced herself to walk right in front of me, I knew that she was not feeling fine. I let out an exhausting sigh and sat down before I heard a heated argument at the front. At first, I decided to ignore it till when I heard Ariana's cry, I sped up to the place immediately.
Reaching the place, I couldn't believe the scene in front of me. Ariana was curled up on a ball form, crying and whimpering.
"What's wrong?" I murmured to the slave nearest to me but she shifted to another side and ignored me. That's when it dawned on me that she is avoiding any punishment, I just broke a rule. Using signs I asked her and she answered back in the same manner, and from what she was showing me it looks like these men are beating Ariana because of what I don't seem to know.
My heart pangs as I watch one of the men kick her ribs, and she groans in pain. This is an old woman that they were making gist of, they kicked and made a mockery of her, and before I knew it an enormous sound erupted out from the depth of a wounded heart and echoed in the whole place. I noticed as everyone turned to stare in my direction.
Fear and panic flashed in their eyes, as their face suddenly turned pale. I indirectly peeped at myself from my feet up to my hands, and I noticed that the terrifying sound was coming from me. My feet and teeth have elongated, and smokes were fuming out of my nostrils with my palms wiggling. My ocean blue eyes have long turned red, with my ears long and elongated.
"Ahh!!!!" The crowds screamed as everyone took to their heels. Even the slaves forget that saying a word is now a punishment, I hated the fact that I had transformed but I couldn't do anything anymore.
"Run! Run!" Everyone kept screaming as they ran for their lives. I slowly stride towards a confused and surprised Ariana who was staring at me. My heart melted as I noticed that she was the only one that didn't run away from me.
"She still cares," I whispered. My smile got wiped out from my lips as I bent down to touch her.
"MONSTER!" Regaining herself, she backed out as she screamed in my face.
"Let go of me you monster!!" She yelled before forcing herself up and running out of my sight.
