The Chef Rules the Last Days Chapter 118

Some elderly people walking outside were directly knocked to the ground. Four or five zombies pounced on them, frantically devouring the fresh flesh. They died choking in their throats without even a chance to scream. The screams from inside the building rose and fell, piercing the sky. Some emaciated zombies in tattered clothes climbed up the elevator shaft of Building 3, broke into the residents’ homes, and leaped out through windows of the high-rise buildings, clinging to people. They crashed violently to the ground, turning into mounds of flesh. The air outside was permeated with a foul stench. Overnight, the Happiness District was breached. "No! No!" The woman with parted hair totally lost her composure, her eyes flashing with fear, "Our relatives!" She muttered to herself while continuously backing away. Ling Fang’s face turned pale as she protected her son, desperately retreating along with the parted-hair woman. Seeing this, Lu Chen immediately took out a car from the Space. He tossed a can of gasoline and the car keys to Jianxiong, telling him to fuel up. Dozens of zombies spotted them and surged toward them with extended spines. Li Chuan immediately led his group to grab the oil and hurried back to get the car. Sheng Yuan led his people to run wildly with them. Li Qian protected Su Niang, telling her to stay inside the car. No one cared about their departure anymore. Zombies from several buildings all surged out of Building 3, making those standing outside their primary attack targets. "We need to hold them off until Jianxiong finishes fueling up!" Su Mo gripped the Tang Blade and Lu Chen met the first wave of Level 2 zombies that came at them. Seemingly having starved for too long, their speed was even faster than those outside. Their pale eyes rotated swiftly, drooling malodorous saliva. Su Mo surged forward with her superpower. The zombies’ attack movements appeared to her in slow motion frame by frame. She could clearly see their beast-like sharp teeth lunging towards her neck. "Do not hurt our relatives!" The parted-hair woman’s vigorous spiritual power surged toward Su Mo, attempting to control her movements. Su Mo was completely unaffected. With a swift sidestep, she tripped a zombie onto the ground. She stabbed down with the Tang Blade, pulling it out covered in disgusting brain matter. Without even looking back, she charged forward again. Her superpower was draining quickly. She kept swinging the blade as she moved closer to Lu Chen. In the man’s hands, the Ice Blade consistently pierced the zombies’ heads. Standing there, unfazed by danger, with his back straight, he looked like a battle-hardened blood mage. From under his feet sporadically emerged Cold Ice Barbs. If any unlucky zombies got too close, he would use his extensive combat experience to kill them instantly. One level was a qualitative difference. He even had the energy to spare a bit of attention to help Su Mo move closer to him. Together, the two of them quickly had corpses scattered around them. "Grandma!" Ling Ye, clutching his mother’s arm, suddenly pointed at a withered-looking middle-aged woman walking towards Su Mo. His shout, carried by the wind, entered Su Mo’s ears. She saw Ling Ye’s grandmother, her face ashen, her sparse white hair wispy, and her face sunken. She seemed to have mutated normally but emerged from the elevator shaft as a Level 1 zombie. Her pupils whitened as they moved, her expression confused as she slowly approached Su Mo with her claws raised. "Don’t scream!" Ling Fang covered her son’s mouth. Su Mo glanced at Ling Ye, then turned and leapt towards the middle-aged zombie, swiftly beheading it with her Tang Blade. Ling Ye’s eyes reddened instantly; he desperately tried to remove the hand covering his mouth, his tears soaking Ling Fang’s palm. The woman with the middle part turned her head to look at Ling Ye and whispered softly, "That woman killed your grandmother; she killed our kin." "Enough!" Ling Fang couldn’t hold back anymore, pushed her, and they all actually knew there were no kin, just monsters bearing their obsessions. In the few moments of the argument, it seemed as though some enormous creature had damaged the bridge boxes in all the residential buildings’ elevator shafts, silently allowing zombies to climb up. The number grew more and more, not just in three buildings, but zombies continuously broke windows and emerged from the surrounding residential buildings as well, a scene akin to hell itself. "Let’s go!" The middle-parted woman could no longer suppress her fear and hurriedly led the remaining people towards Building One. There were two vehicles for outings there. Zhao Changsheng’s Thunder Whip and Thunder Ball were both activated; due to the large number, she and Li Qian guarded the front of the vehicle, waiting for Jianxiong to finish refueling. Once these zombies came out, they were like ravenous beasts. The middle-parted woman led her group and charged straight to Building One, started a car, and attempted to break out; immediately, a dozen superpower users consecutively jumped onto the vehicle, filling both vehicles completely. Seeing this, Ling Fang tried to squeeze on with her son, but there were no seats left in the vehicles; she put down Ling Ye and clung to the car door, screaming, "At least take my son!" "Ling Fang, get on, adding your son will make it too crowded," a male superpower user in the vehicle urgently said. Both vehicles were already overloaded; everyone was stacked upon one another, with no space available for an extra person. "I’m not going, please take my son!" Ling Fang knelt on the ground, unable to control her tears any longer. Behind them, dozens of Evolution Species had discovered them and were rapidly charging. "Let’s go! Fast, fast!" Seeing her stubbornness, they did not bother with her anymore; the two vehicles drove towards the gate, one after the other, having to slow down to avoid zombies from jamming the tires, clearing their way as they went. "No!" Ling Fang grabbed her son and turned to run towards the military vehicle. Evolution Species were quickly striking from behind. She approached the military vehicle, holding her son and fell to the ground, narrowly dodging the claws behind her; as she had expected, Zhao Changsheng’s Thunder Whip blocked those few zombies. Ling Fang held Ling Ye and hid behind the military vehicle; someone in front provided cover, momentarily creating a safe distance. She knew no one would save her if she spoke first, so she gestured for Ling Ye to remain silent, and with tear-filled eyes, repeatedly touched her son’s head, "Don’t blame them; all this is mother’s fault, you have to survive, do you understand?" As Ling Ye was about to call out ’Mom’, his mouth was covered; she knocked on the car window, and Su Niang turned her head only to see her kneeling beside the military vehicle, bowing her head in silent plea to save her son. Seeing her so, Su Niang thought of her own son who might have already died, her eyes also reddened; she gently rolled down the window, and Ling Fang quickly stuffed Ling Ye through the window into the military vehicle. "Cover your eyes and keep quiet; do you understand? Otherwise, you’ll be letting me down," Ling Fang stifled her tears as she repeatedly stroked her child’s hair, her eyes filled with unending affection, and then resolutely called out to Su Mo.
